That is just a beautiful bull. And that fight you have on film was just awesome. Congratulations on a fantastic hunt.

Had me wondering there for a minute. Awesome picture.

I had some issues with the Nightforce mounting it on a long action receiver. The rings fit up tight against the bell, and the power adjustment ring on the scope. I mean to the thousandth. I ended up buying a rail which solved the problem. On your short action rifle you should have plenty of room though. I went with the IHR reticle, the concept is new to me but I really like it. A zero stop like some of the Leupold scopes come with would be a bonus. Overall though I think the Nightforce is a great buy. Glass is extremely clear.

I feel your pain. I live in Safford but hauled water to a home for 18 years. The well water was horrible, dog wouldn't drink it, so I had no other option. The day civilization finally encroached and I was able to tie into the municipality was a dream. I even hauled water for renters for 9 years of that. 550 gallons at a time, fortunately the round trip was only a few miles. Fortunately for me I was able to buy cheap and turned quite a profit when I dumped that place. Still have not decided wether it was worth it.

As a parent of both my own, and step kids I have had my struggles also. My son who is mine, has accompanied me on hunts since he was probably five. At times I walked him too hard but you would be surprised at how far even pre teens can hoof it. It took everything I had to let him build fires, throw rocks and beat on things with sticks while we were glassing but I wanted him to have fun also. Teen age years added sports and girl friends and high school activities, things that are important and irreplaceable at that time in their life. So I told myself I would try to get them tags and if it worked out we would go and if it didn't we wouldn't. Sometimes it tore me up hanging out at home when they had a good tag. I went through the same thing with my daughter also. My step daughters wanted to go so we tried it and they harvested a couple of animals and decided they didn't like it so that was that. Now as adults and in good shape they love to go and see the things few others get to witness. At Christmas I bought them things that I would have dreamed of, probably not things they dreamed of, but now they have some quality life time possessions instead of junk and they seem to appreciate it. My best advice is to try and make it fun and not so much work. I filled cases of bottled water with food coloring to make target practice funner, cut out animal archery targets and glued them to plywood and then cut them out. Shot old water melons, cantaloupes etc. Good luck

Cabelas 12x20 Alaknak Tent with Vestibule and stove.
singleshot replied to jcarter's topic in Classified Ads
I have a good friend with this same set up and have stayed many a dry comfortable night in it. I love my Montana canvas but the tent pictured is the best engineered and designed tent I have ever seen. Easy set up, light weight, but very high quality. Bump for a great deal -
Recently bought a Nightforce 3x10x42 SHV. It is extremely clear and I feel it's even crisper than my VX6. Short, compact and looks great. Little pricey though at around 8 bills. 42 mm objective gives you a little more light without those obscene 50mm long bells. It would look great on your CZ

My son drew a bull tag in 2013 and he said he wasn't going to shave so I didn't either. I grew "Shag Nasty" that's what my wife calls it. In 2015 my Daughter Sarah drew a bull tag and she asked me to grow "Shag Nasty". It's 2017.... guess who has a bull tag

Need gun identification
singleshot replied to MULEPACKHUNTER's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
My dad has a model 14 in 30 remington, it has a spiraled magazine that offsets the bullets from the primers. I believe that brass headstamp was added at some point. My dad's is very original and it does not have that. -

Weatherby vanguard in 30.06, .270, or .308 with a Leupold Rifleman 3x9x40. Right around $700.00 and a solid set up. -
I grew up shooting a sporterized Mauser 6.5 x55. Those groups and velocities are outstanding. Great all around performer. Really happy to see your results.

Looking forward to your next project, load development, and results. -
I had a really good job working for Phelps Dodge in the Morenci Mine. Started as a laborer, ended up completing an Instrumentation / Electrician apprenticeship and had been working at that capacity for the last ten years before quitting. I worked for Phelps Dodge for 21 years. I ended up taking a Job with the U of A for the same pay and they matched my vacation benefit. It has been a four, ten hour days shift with weekends off, less overtime, but the challenge has been about the same. I hated it for the first couple years, and I have been at this job for 14 now, but I never missed any activities my kids were involved in. Their junior and senior years we were able to attend every away game, wrestling, football, volleyball, and basketball. It was definitely worth it in that respect. I could never consider quitting a job though unless pay and benefits were a wash.

I have one of these also. Just like Ronco, set it and forget it. Works great.

I have a couple of Hopkins and Allen 16 gauge SxS that shoot 2 1/2 inch shells. You can still find them. -
Looks like it's a Facebook flight to San Francisco

People in Tucson probably know this but Ace Hardware ... yes Ace Hardware on Houghton road and Valencia has the most complete on hands inventory of ammunition and every reloading component imaginable of any store I have ever been in. Blows Sportsmans, Cabelas and everybody else away. Really

Maui Jim for driving and Oakley Gas cans for everyday work. The gas cans offer a lot of eye protection from all sides and are pretty much indestructable.

I moved my sister to Seattle in March, put my truck on the Bremerton ferry and then drove down coastal Washington, Oregon, and to Trinidad California. It rained a lot but very little traffic. I understand that during the non raining months traffic can be brutal. It takes a lot longer than you would think, like Edge said, lot's of small towns and lower speed limits. The Tsunami warning signs everywhere kind of freak you out. It was a really nice scenic drive though.

Long range, starting from scatch
singleshot replied to Coach's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Last year I started looking at options to buy or build a "custom" hunting rifle. I started pricing builds from several of the names that are thrown out on this site regularly, and they build great rifles. With all the different makers it seems like you get a model 700 action, have it trued, re-barreled, Timney trigger, HS precision stock, bottom metal, Cerakoted, muzzle braked, etc. It's easy to get several K into a guaranteed 1/2 MOA rifle. I decided to look at some of the higher end rifles built by Remington, Browning, Sako, Nosler and Legendary Arms Works. Fortunately I found myself the only one at the gun counter in Sportsman's one day and the salesman was quite friendly. I handled all of the above and looked them over and was pretty impressed with the LAW. I drooled over it for awhile and then he handed me a Fierce Fury. I liked the feel and fit of the stock, the controlled round feed, excellent trigger, removable brake, cerakote, and the action was tight and really slick. Interest peaked I started researching them on the internet and was pleasantly pleased at what I was reading. 1/2 inch MOA guarantee, the machine shop they use located in Canada is very state of the art and has been making parts for Winchester and Marlin for 25 years, one piece wire EDM cut actions and bolts, hand lapped barrels etc. I bought one at Cabelas, 7mm Remington Magnum. I already have one 7mag and a couple other .284's so I have a lot of bullets to play with. Picked up a Nightforce SHV 3x10x42 and a set of steel Nikon rings. The rifle came with Weaver style bases. Decided to try Berger 168gHVLD's for the first time and with some advice from Lance loaded up some with 68g of Hodgdon 1000 seated fifty thousandths off the lands. The magazine length is 3.72... so no worry's about magazine length. First 5 shot group at 100 yards. far left shot was first shot. Bumped up 1 grain of H1000 to 69g. Cleaned the rifle and shot this group. It was really windy with 15 to 20 mph cross winds. What the heck? 1 grain opened it up to this? Shot another group of five with the same load but seated 80 thousandths off the lands. The single hole is the first shot after cleaning and cold barrel. I had no idea these Bergers were that finicky. This is my first time trying them. Anyways I have right at 3K in this rifle with scope and rings. Check them out. I feel like it is a really great buy from a company who builds an entire rifle, from the ground up. -
I feel very fortunate to have had a real man by the name of Gene Etter as my Boy Scout Leader. Once a month we would all load up in the back of his camper that sat on a Datsun truck and he would haul us off somewhere for the weekend. Twice a year we made trips into the black river on the san Carlos to fish for smallies. We would see him at dark when he came back from fishing by himself for the day. Sometimes there were fist fights, sometimes people got busted up in rock fights, and if you melted your shoes because you left them to close to the fire to dry out, well you got laughed at as you packed out barefoot. He taught us to be responsible. And he showed us all the magic of a hellgrammite. By the time my son was old enough to be in scouts there had to be two adults present, they would camp right off the road somewhere and somebody would show up to do all the cooking. I didn't have any qualms about his not wanting to participate.
