New to the AR platform. Hoping to get some opinions on an optic for it. My max range would probably be 100 yards. I like the idea of a red dot, not looking for absolute accuracy but would like to be able to dump a 100 yard coyote. Is a red dot type sight feasible at 100 yards? Or would you lean towards a low power scope?

Any body have any experience with the Vortex Sparc or Strikefire? Aim point Pro looks great but pretty pricey. I was hoping to spend about $250. Thanks for your feedback.

12 x 17, screened doors at each end. Kwik Kamp internal frame. It's a heavy set up, but a great one.

I probably wouldn't put up panels at my own house but I have quite a bit of experience with solar equipment. My in laws property has roughly 200 panels, scattered around powering everything from numerous wells to high pressure piston pumps. The main house has two arrays consisting of 24 total panels. 16, six volt batteries in series, parrallel feeding 48 volts to the inverter. It easily powers two refrigerators, a chest freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, television, water well pump etc. On those odd occasions when somebody is using the microwave and the dishwasher is in the dry cycle and a freezer compressor kicks on it will trip a breaker, otherwise it's pretty danged solid. Batteries get better all the time and we have some in use over ten years old. Add distilled water and keep them maintained, the life will surprise you. Three full days of clouds and you are definitely running the generator though. If no other option it's a great one, If I chose to put a system on my own house I would forgo the batteries and just put power back on the grid.

Any other pics of that bear in your profile pic? Looks like a slob -
Just ordered one yesterday, Curt brand from E trailer. $117.00 shipped. Northern has Husky's for about $100.00 shipped. I hear Clyde will take cash for beer money and give a pretty decent deal.

Four wheel drive? Nothing in the pictures or listing confirms this.

Bullet Performance on Game
singleshot replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
They have a lot of good information on their site. And real world research to back it up. It seems most of the field research comes out of New Zealand where they do a ton of cull hunting on pigs and wild goats. Being a Hornady fan, and based on their recommendation for the best all around performer in 7mm Remington magnum, I started shooting the 162 grain SST. I had been shooting the 154 SST, and 168BHVLD previously. The 162 SST sure did a number on my last bull at 400+ yards and the shot was far from "stellar". -
Well, my Brother and I drew a couple of late season bull tags. I had never killed an elk with a rifle so I was kind of excited to get the chance, but a little disappointed because nothing compares to an archery bull hunt. We were familiar with the unit though, and having been on quite a few late bull hunts I knew that we were going to see a boat load of bulls and that it was going to be a lot of work. I was right on both accounts.

Take your tag and wrap it around a rock and then throw it in there with him, worked for me once.

Rage 2 blade chisel mechanical- what happened?
singleshot replied to Jnj13's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
That's unfortunate but it happens. If you shoot fixed blades long enough you will see it again. Broad heads are funny creatures, you get phenomenal results with a fixed blade or expandable and then everything you believed in changes. All you can do is try and make good shots and go forward. The next buck with that same head is liable to pile inside of 50 yards. My daughter shoots the 100 grain Swhacker at 50 pounds. It usually blows through Javelina, but not this past Sunday. In and out the same shoulder on a broadside pig. I'm sure it survived, it happens. -
Daughters BF and I Swhacked a couple.

Yea and they almost ate me. I had my 10 year old with so I was doing the calling, he was doing the shooting. Came in to the feet and had to swing my bow at one to fend it off. Pretty western..... could have been real ugly but was an awesome first experience with javis for my boy. On the contrary, had two different herds that did the opposite from the first experience. It doesn't always work. Seems like if they've been messed with at all in the recent past, it can factor in and send them running. Good luck and hopefully they don't eat you. Haha. Post up the video Jeff! Maybe edit out the profanity after you threw your camera at them

Whatever brand you buy be sure and get your rolls of bags off of Amazon. Save you a fortune.

This group of 8 wolves, three collared pushed this huge herd of elk on top of us opening morning. probably 35 bulls in the mix. You can see their mouths wide open and tongues hanging out, ( the elk ). A couple of the six points tempted us but we had four big bulls located and in range. When all this commotion happened the big bulls got out. https://youtu.be/eNTFRDGXGGA

That whole group went through the saddle below us right before the wolves showed up. The elk on video were less than half of the herd. The group on video ran into my brother and turned and came right back into the saddle.

If you use too much fat your casings will shrink as the fat cooks out of the meat. Doesn't hurt anything, just makes the casings kind of wrinkly. Same go's with any liquids that you add. It will enhance the flavor but most of the liquid cooks out of the meat. The last batch I made I used too much bacon fat and the cases shrank and there is a little bit of grease around the outside of the sausage. It turned out really moist though and I will probably deliberately do it again. The only thing you really have to follow to the letter is the amount of curing salt and cooking times and temperatures, want more cheese add it, worcester dump some in. The ice bath stops the cooking process, just like resting meat before you slice it.

Had eight, 3 collared, push a giant herd of 200 or more over the top of us opening morning. Lots of small sixes, and fives, broken legged cow as well as a collared and ear tagged cow. Talked to another hunter who had the same thing happen several miles away. Same herd, and wolves. All those elk had their mouths wide open and tongues hanging out. Must be heck on those pregnant cows. Got some pretty good video I will post one of these days. Oddly enough the wolves picked us up pretty quick and got out. They dang sure weren't hurting for much.

Don't worry about it too much. The fat to meat ratio is pretty critical, but even then it will be a little moister if you use too much fat. I buy my casings from Cabela's, and got one of their seasoning kits the first time. It has a step by step and pink salt for preserving. It will give you the basics to get started. Since then I use my own seasonings, and just wing it. Pink salt can be bought just about anywhere, I never use high temp cheese, just good old medium or stronger cheddar ran through a grater. It won't completely melt. Coarse grind it twice, once just meat and once with all the ingredients. I use about 2/3 bacon ends and pieces and 1/3 pork fat. Dump some jalepeno's in with it. Keep it simple buy canned diced ones. One thing to remember is that it takes quite a bit of seasoning to make a 25 pound batch, so don't be afraid to add a couple pounds of cheese and a bunch of Jalepenos, don't strain them, juice and all. I smoke mine in an electric smoker. It's easy and convenient. Lay the stuffed tubes on the racks and start them at 120 degrees. Bring the temp up 40 degrees in the next 8 hours or so until they hit 160. Take them out and cool them off immediately in an ice bath. It will be the best you have ever eaten. Try making your own seasoning, I make my own and I call it "Black" because it go's with everything. Montreal Steak seasoning, Sweet Mesquite, coarse ground black pepper, cumin, paprika, BBQ seasoning, garlic salt, lawreys salt, red chile flakes, lawreys crushed pepper mix and brown sugar. Mix it in a mixer or by hand, I just dump till I like the taste and put it in canning jars. Its awesome on all meat, and in sausage.

Hit the 54 mark this year. Hunted some country with my older brother that my dad took us into when we were kids. Big 3 point looking at us like a gift as soon as we topped over the ridge. Didn't get it done but didn't really care. Had a great time with my brother, as always. My dad turned 86 this year. Every day is a gift that he is still with us. How very fortunate I am to have had such an incredible role model in my life for so long. When asked by my kids if I ever was to get a tattoo what it might be, I point to the big euro six point on the wall. Nicely done.
