Deepest sympathy Lark. I read your fathers obituary in the local paper and thought about your past posts and the times you had written stories about him. Great poem, very touching.

    What bullet weight

I have an old CVA Firebolt Magnum and this is what has been the best ever. For everything. The guy who makes these bullets told me that a bullet has to be at least twice as long as it's diameter to be accurate. Makes good sense. A .177 pellet is much more accurate than a .177 BB. Why worry about overkill? People are shooting 100 pound coues deer with 338 Norma mags and such. Check out their website. 2013 on his feet for maybe 5 seconds.
  4. "Knock em down as they get up and the big one"s will come with the little ones" Thats what my dad always told my brother and myself, and he was right. The spikes and forks went to the house and so did the mature ones. They were all good hunts and good memories. You are out there doing it, with the people that matter, it only gets better.

    Finding remote graves

Ike Clanton the outlaw was buried in upper Eagle but somebody stole his headstone and it was never returned. I believe it was near the N/O bar.

I got charged by a bear on Friday.

12 gauge stuffed with turkey loads......who needs a handgun? Good luck on your hunt.
  7. $60,000 dollar reward! Really? How good of friends do people have? How come nobody has ever been prosecuted? My understanding is that the USFWS knows that it would never hold up in court if DNA test results were shown. The genetics are muddled with domestic dog, all of the mexican wolves. The result would be admittance to what can now be dismissed as public speculation. Took this picture off the sign in Williams Valley. Tears me up.
  8. My wife sat down in her seat at the Cirque De Soliel show in Vegas Saturday night and heard something hit the floor when she lowered her arm rest. Bingo....Spyderco Endura.... she thought it was junk... hit the jackpot and didn't even know it.

POST PICS OF YOUR RELOADING SETUPS

My house was built in 1895. I believe that this room was once for the boiler that heated the house. I had a washer and dryer in it for awhile, long while. Built a new large laundry room and turned this room into my reloading room / safe. The walls are 16 inch thick block, interior and the one exterior wall. That's just the way they built houses back then. The interior walls were covered with plaster that was flaking badly so I re-sheeted them in 1/2 inch CDX. It makes attaching shelves etc. much easier. The base cabinets are from IKEA and are mounted on 2x6 's to bring the bench height higher. The bench top is 1 1/2 inch thick subfloor sheeting. I decided to mount the security cabinet on top of the bench and it is lagged to the wall. It takes up some bench space but sure saves a guys knees. The door is a solid core fire door and the deadbolt insets into a 5/16 x 2 inch angle iron piece that is lagged from the inside into a 2x12 frame. 49 square feet, but the shelving and cabinet / drawers offer a lot of storage.

    $54

I pay for my adult children's licenses and tag fees also. If they get drawn I get to go and spend some time with them. Back when all species applications were due at the same time for the fall hunts, and they took the money up front, we were into it over $ 1500.00. It was a lot of money, but I always made sure I had it one way or the other. As far as the new trucks go, they have one guy for each unit down here in South eastern AZ. The units are huge and they have been driving the same trucks for at least 3 years. It sucks breaking down, by yourself, and cell phone and mobile radio coverage is limited. As much as those trucks get beat I would trade them off every couple years also.

    Swarovski 12x50 EL Swarovision

Hopefully too late for a bump, meaning that somebody bought these. I got a pair of these in December, after taxes, and having the bushing installed by Outdoorsman's, shipping with insurance, both ways, I got over 3 grand in them. This is a really good buy.

    Javelina eating a deer skull!?

Great pictures! A friend of mine killed a very unique bull last year and after the pictures got out he received some of the same bull with a four point mule deer shed in his mouth. Watched a rock squirrel kill and eat "chicks" baby chickens and fight the very pissed off hen. Seen another one dragging a bull snake across the road that i'm sure it had just killed. All wildlife, as humans, have a tremendous will to survive. thanks for the pics.

    What's cold for javelina?

The scent gland is an epidermal gland, it comes off with the skin. When you try and cut it out it often gets lacerated which, well you know. Don't worry about the scent gland just skin it like everything else. Turkeys feeding at night????? On the outdoor channel they showed a bunch of hens catching and eating fish out of a creek, if it wasn't on film I never would have believed that either.

    Your Dad's Best Hunting Story...

Back in 1949 my Grandpa traded in a model 1895, 38-72 and some cash to buy my dad a Marlin 336 in 30-30. It was a late high school graduation present and he gave it to my dad on the way to deer camp in northern Wisconsin. First morning on stand Dad had two bucks come blowing through and failed to lead the first one and hit the second one in the head. First shot out of the rifle. They held a kangaroo court in camp every night and the punishment for a blunder like that could be harsh, so he didn't fess up to it. The next morning he shot a big buck a little far back and low and caught up to him as the buck was swimming across a wide slough. He went for the head shot and hit him through the base of the antler, knocked the buck out and he drowned. Couldn't get out of that one and the "court" dished out the sentence of hunting without socks and made him cut off the sleeves of his wool shirt.

    warning on axis arrows

I have been reading quite a bit about this apparently "known" problem. People have been complaining about this exact issue of the shaft splitting or broadheads and field points snapping at the threads for a number of years. It looks like the easiest fix is the BAR offered by easton. Pisses me off though to have just bought a dozen. I would have went back to Beman Carbon Hunters had I known.
