    Dad gets it done.

That second shot was awesome. Nice job on the video.
  3. I still have the 10x42s and love them but glassed with the 12 x 50 ELs for the last six days. Brighter, sharper, clearer than the 10 x 42s, manageable when worn around the neck, awesome on the tripod. No regrets.

Opinions wanted on Heavy duty trucks

Tried to send you a P.M. Whatever you decide on look up Lawley Ford in Silver City New Mexico. Small hole in the wall run down dealership. Best trade in quote sight unseen, every possible rebate, 2 hours in and out the door. They have low overhead and they move trucks. They also sell Dodges and Chevy trucks. Spent months wheeling and dealing at AZ. dealerships. Saved almost 6K through a simple E mail. Nobody else was even close to that. Another thing you might try is that if a truck sits on a lot for two hundred days Ford allows the dealer to knock off another 2K. They won't like the fact that you know this. Jeff at Lawley gave me a bottom dollar price, 13K off window sticker, no city tax, you pay 5.9% AZ. tax upon purchase. Most painless buy I ever made.

Opinions wanted on Heavy duty trucks

Just bought a F250 with the 6.7. I have always been a chevy guy but this worked out to be the best truck I could get for the money I was willing to spend. Pulled my fifth wheel up some steep grades. I was happy it finally got to 2200 RPM. Runs like an absolute beast. Engine braking and transmission have been awesome on the downhills. I wish I would have gotten the .335 gears instead of the .355 for a little better mileage because it has plenty of power for what I tow at any speeds. Rides better than any 3/4 ton truck I have been in. Great rebates on 14's right now.

    Early deer oct hunts

Hey Lark, the old man didn't raise no sissies. I spent my whole childhood trying to keep up with him, and he was huffing a camel the whole time. He made me cross Deadman to go back and look for my empty 6.5 brass after I killed my first buck. Didn't even congratulate me. I will never forget him telling me " you left 35 cents on the side of that mountain get your butt back over there and find it". My brother and I would have to stay in the truck as he went into Circle K and came out with a loaf of bread and two cans of Viennas and that was breakfast, lunch and dinner. After lunch he would reach in his pack and ask my brother and I if we wanted a candy bar. Of course we wanted one and he would laugh and say "yeah. I do too". Retired at 52 and lives in Alpine, I should have learned to like a bread sandwich. We hit it hard for five days, his granddaughter is the toughest beautiful girl I know. I'm thinking about calling in sick tomorrow.

    Early deer oct hunts

Feeling your pain. I can be hunting in 15 minutes from the house so I usually don't scout much. My daughter, brother and I were smothered in # 50 sunblock, the gnats were unbelievable, the heat was just numbing. Glassing the cooler north slopes, options are few for any form of shade. The grass is waist high and the snakes were out. We saw some deer but not what we are used too. Nice getting some much needed exercise in but this hunt has been miserable as far as the heat and bugs. Headed high today to poke around in the pines.

    Guides-and using them

Some day I want to do the "outdoor channel" thing and kill a 150 inch whitetail out of a tree with my bow. Kansas, Iowa, you know. Enter guided hunt. But within the state of AZ. or most states in the west, I don't think I would consider it for any species. I would definitely ask for advice from other people, I have 23 points for antelope, probably be sending FLATLANDER a PM before next falls draw.

    Elk season Part II Archery

    Great bull! Really cool video.
  17. I thought that was the case, but I couldn't find anything on the axis and accutrigger. I probably didn't look hard enough. Yeah definitely go with the Axis II if not going for the Trophy Hunter. If you end up going Savage...I'll be interested to see what you choose and what you think of it since I'll be in the same boat next year. I bought the original savage axis in 243 without the scope. My plan was to let my daughters boyfriends who wanted to get into hunting use it. I had hoped to be able to buy a box of 100 grain core lokts at walmart and send them out the door with it. Who cares if they scratched the tupperware it is stocked with. Doesn't like 100 grain factory loads. It shoots 87 grain Sierras really good though. The trigger is really stiff. Pretty good buy overall for 3 bills. I bought a Marlin XS7 in 7mm-08 for my daughter. Great all around caliber, very accurate with a sweet trigger.

    Twin Spot Rattlesnake

At about two feet this is actually a pretty big one. Found him at 9000+ feet, 60 degrees out, doing fine. I think they are more tolerant of the cooler weather.

    2014 AZ ELK (Pic Intensive)

Nice bull Robert. Very fitting memorial also. Your Dad was quick to share his knowledge of bows back in the day, and helped a lot of us out with our shooting. Congrats.

    Twin Spot Rattlesnake

I work at over 10,000, every day. Found a smaller Twin Spot in the building once. The timber rattlers your seeing might actually be Black Tailed Rattlesnakes. I have seen several of those around the 9000 foot mark also. They can get pretty big in the " sky islands ". Data says max of 4 feet but we have seen a couple that are very conservatively over 5.

    ruger lcp 380

I carry one and bought one each for my two youngest daughters. They carry it because it is compact and light, fits well wherever. A 380 in the hand is better than a 12 gauge in the truck if you need it. Trigger pull sucks but take the good with the bad.

    What's wrong with my truck?

Not to Hijack this thread but you guys have offered some great information. I know the 6.7 is relatively new but anyone have any issues with it?
  23. Suzy my wife, has a cousin in Payson who has a lot of old family photographs. He was unsure whom this was but I think it is Howard Hill. Suzy's grandfather Cleveland Eugene Holder, spent most of his life in the rim country around Payson and Holder Cienega is named after him. He caught and roped bears for what are now called "canned" hunts for Howard Hill on several occasions, and If I remember right at least one lion. Howard would arrive with a film crew and the bear was released and he was able to drive several arrows through it with his longbow before it could run out of sight. Cleveland was also Game Warden number 3 for the State of Arizona. My father in law still has his badge. He has been credited with the last documented killing of a grey wolf in Arizona. One of Suzy's relatives in Payson still possesses a stole made from it's hide.
  24. What an amazing accomplishment at such a young age. Your future is going to be riddled with more opportunities. Your dad better start clearing out some more room on the walls. Great buck.
