    Unit 33 Bear tag holders

I saw a bunch of bears in 33 from August-October with a few of them being monsters... Should have a good hunt this up coming spring!

    Anyone else eating tag soup??

Rifle tag soup for me. I had plenty of opportunity to kill multiple bucks but none were the ones I had found scouting or was looking for. Over the first 3 days of the hunt me and my partner had passed on over 20 bucks(had to talk my buddy out of shooting quite a few of them.) Last day of the hunt I passed up a 90" buck that my partner ended up breaking weak on the set goal and ended up shooting later on in the morning. Real cool character buck especially for his first deer. As far as I'm concerned my tag is just stewing right now as I still have December to get it done with the bow. Good luck to all that still have rifle hunts to go!

    arrow grain

I shoot a 300 spine gold tip Kinetic Pro with 100gn 2" Swhackers at 475grains at 304fps. Little smaller diameter shaft than standard 5/16 for better penetration. I've got a pass through on every thing I've shot since going to this setup. There's a ton of great arrows out there just find the one that suits your needs the best!

    Spotter vs bino's??

To me ideal glassing setup is 10s for stalking due to light weight and size. My 15x56 swarovski for glassing and locating. And a spotter for scoring and locating at extreme distance and shot calling at the range or while hunting.

    Which Muzzle Brake

Check out the muzzle break lineup that American Precision Arms offers. They are by far the most effective that I have shot. I have the Fat Ba$tard break on my 338 lapua and it tamed it down to feel like a 6.5 caliber rifle. They offer smaller ones for smaller caliber a but they are all awesome!
  6. Gotta love all the gun porn! .338 Lapua Stiller TAC 338 action, Krieger barrel, Jewell trigger, McMillian A5 stock, Seekens extended box mag, NightForce 5.5-22x56 Hopefully find one to feed the 300grains of strong medicine to. Gun is 18lbs so she's a little rough to carry but if it wears me out the trusty old mountain weight 300WM will make an appearance.

    Magazine Capacity

Don't forget to put your suppressor on your guns now that it legal as well. Nothing like laying down lots of fire and keeping it quite on your hunt
  8. Anyone know if the 125 road off lake Mary road and twin arrows road off I-40 are closed with the forrest service shut down?
  9. I've been scouting since July for my early October hunt. I've had over 65 bucks in the area I'm hunting. Lots of them are very respectable bucks in the 90 to high 90 range. Typical lots of small bucks spikes, 2x2s, 60s, 70s, and 80s I had 4 different bucks in the 100 to 108 range. Well yesterday I went back out scouting after 15 days in elk heaven and I found lots of deer but not much for bucks. I found two of the bachelor groups that 2 of the big boys were running with (same bucks) and the big boys were no where to be found. I know I'm in far enough back country they aren't getting pressure and the area is not condusive to archery hunting (ares like Stallone in CliffHanger) and it's blowing my mind because I was only able to turn up 3 bucks yesterday and its really bumming me out because I had high hopes for October. Just wondering if the deer are starting to kick anyone else's butt close to the October season opening up?

Scouting for OCT melting my brain

I appreciate the insight guys. I'm mostly using the locating techniques you guys are talking of especially with them only moving to bed in first light plus many others. I know what im doing as far as whitetail as far as I killed quite a few and helped my buddies take quite a few. I guess its just my frustrations coming out. and like i said i really do appreciate the insight from guys that definitely know what they are doing. I'm just getting discouraged because its not even season yet and I feel like the big boys are already beating me. I had/and still have high hopes for another good buck but its only getting harder and harder as the season approaches. 33 is a real butt whipper so far this year.

    What Release Do You Shoot?

Carter RX2 and a TruFire Hardcore max. I also shoot a Carter hammer for 3D and Spot shoots. The Carter's in my opinion are by far the finest releases I've every shot but I had one malfunction and the sear snapped while drawing my bow while on a deer hunt in Illinois last year costing me a nice buck (why I carry the TruFire as a backup).
  12. I can say you would not be sad with the 6.5 creedmoor. I have one and love it. Absolute tac driver. 25-06 will get a lot more velocity and still has a good selection of bullets. You can't go wrong with either but I absolutely love the 6.5 creedmore. Another awesome round that you should definitely look into is the 6XC. The 6XC is an amazing round having shot it and its one not a lot of people know about and overlook. Definitely worth looking into.

    200+Typical Archery Mulie from 36A

I too have pictures of the buck and know the hunter there was nothing fishy about the buck and if we are talking about the same deer the guy who killed him is a very stand up guy and has taken lots of other quality animals. That's some real sound logic..... to assume something "fishy" because no one informed YOU of this or YOU didnt hear about it or see it....
  14. I've been using H-1000 with good results behind the 300smk and 300bergers. I've had a lot of guys tell me they are getting good results with RL-22, RL-25, RL-33, Retumbo, Ramshot Mag, and N-570. Just looking for input if any of you guys have any pet powder you like to use and have had good results with. Im Always looking for ways to pull every little bit of accuracy out of my gun. Thanks for any input -Travis

    34b lope

The tag holder got his buck Friday morning. Just saw the picture. He's not a monster but he's a beautiful goat.

    Another toad hits the dirt

Nothing about this buck is adding up except he was a nice model for GCNP tourist photos.

    T-minus 169 hours

5bn for 3 bull tags leaving Wednesday. Can't wait for Friday morning. I don't have a tag but can't wait to call and help my family get in on them big bulls and being a human pack mule for 2 weeks. Good luck to all

    34b lope

My bosses buddy has the 34b tags this year. I don't know the tag holder personally but I've seen some pictures of the bucks he's located this year and he hasn't seen anything real big yet. Might be a tough hunt this year to locate a real big one.

    13A Strip DIY

Best bet for your request is to go buy a scouting package from one of the many outfitters guiding up there...

Will forest service shut down roads due to mud?

I hope not because my family has 3 early archery bull tags and one rifle tag. I've seen it terrible up there as far as road conditions but I've never heard of them closing all the roads in the unit.

    Tripod Head and Legs Help

+1 on the Jim white head. It's all solid machined to extremely tight tolerances so parts don't loosen up or get sloppy. Super tight and super smooth light weight and compact. Can't say enough good things about it!

Has Anyone Deer Hunted Mount Lemmon Before?

There are no coues on Mt Lemmon during the fall and winter but you will find plenty of snow bunnies if you go high enough up the mountain. Usually can be found around Ski Vally. Took a lot of scouting for me to find this out so Shhhhhh! Keep it a secret!
  25. Nothing better than first archery deer! Awesome job Parker!!!!!
