    Freak Bull

Got these pictures off of my camera. I remember seeing pictures of him last year and thinking he was going to be interesting. I'll maybe have to go put some time in and try to find his sheds. What will he score???

Tried a different walmart and got the last one... Never can have too many, right???

She was probably at the Warner and Alma School walmart. I just got back from there and the lady behind the counter said some lady just bought the last three and 3 people have been in since she bought them asking for them... I saw them last night and decided to think about it. Now I wished I'd bought one and taken it back if I didn't want it... Talked to my dad later on and he told me to pick him up one, so now I hope I can find walmart with some in stock... Oh well.

    Rocky Mnt. Bighorn Pictures

Great pictures and from the looks of it, you should be having a great hunt! Good luck and am looking forward to seeing the pictures of one of those rams on the ground!

    POT GARDENS IN THE FOREST

Heard they raided one in Woods Canyon a couple of weeks ago. I guess they are fairly common. I seem to remember reports of finding them off I-17 and at the base of the Mazatzals too. I'd hate to stumble into one...

2007-08 Big Game Super Raffle Elk

Awesome bull! Congrats to the hunter and the Mullins' team! Looking forward to hearing the story!
  7. Very nice Amanda! Thanks for your time and effort to put that together! I liked the sunrise/sunset pictures in it at the beginning! Thanks for everything you do to make Coueswhitetail.com possible! Ron
  8. Was out and about this past weekend. I glassed a hillside where I had seen a doe a couple of days before. I ended up seeing a couple of bucks in the same location. Tried getting some decent pictures, but had trouble finding the bucks in the viewfinder, so basically took some of the scenery, hoping to catch the bucks in them. This one is pretty zoomed in. Can you find him??? This picture is zoomed out some. One buck is pretty easy, and not sure if I got the other one in the field of view or not as I haven't found him yet in the picture. Here is another one with it zoomed out even more... I wish I was able to have gotten better pictures...

    WTB Spotting Scope

David, do you mean you'll keep it for when they are old enough to pack it in for their old man to use??? Ron
  10. Used the gutless method on 3 elk and a bear I helped out on last year. If I can get a vehicle to the animal, I'll probably gut it out and load it up, but if any sort of a packout is necessary, gutless is the way to go for me. I carry an extra emergency space blanket to put on the ground and and as I cut the meat off the animal I lay it on space blanket to cool. If going gutless then game bags are pretty much mandatory to pack with you to help keep meet clean. I think using the gutless method provides opportunity for dirty meat if you are not being careful, if care is taken it can be just as clean. I've unfortunately seen plenty of animals that were gutted (and skinned) that were plenty filthy. I know I stay cleaner using the gutless method! Ron
  11. Very cool Amanda! That is neat that Julie finds so many things with you and is able to accompany you so often. I've lost track of how many actual bones my dog Ranger has found and brought over to me. He found this antler when we were out over fourth of July weekend. Please forgive him that it is from a mule deer... Ron
  12. Was up north this past weekend and managed to take some pictures of some furry, four legged creatures... Came across this little guy feeding at dusk... I had seen this girl earlier in the day while on a drive with my son. Took a buddy out to show him some areas for his Nov elk hunt and stopped to enjoy the view on our way back. These guys were a ways out there. Hope to have more pictures after this weekend...

    Scouting companions

I usually take my dog while scouting, especially if just glassing or walking new country. He's found me all sorts of things that I never would have found, from antlers to lion/winter kills. The below pic was from scouting for my dad's Nov elk hunt last year. When I sit down to glass, he'll just lay down beside me and chew on a stick or take a nap.

    Wac em vs. Striker

I find it kind of interesting that the Striker is so similar to the Wac'em. From an ititial glance, it totally appears that G5 stole the design from Wac'em. I haven't investigated the broadhead enough to determine if there are some minute technical differences that might possibly separate the two. I've mainly shot Wac'ems and Sliok Tricks. I'll be shooting Slick Tricks from now on. Have had much better luck with them, and they've made very big holes with very nice blood trails. Both shoot just like my field tips. Ron

    Badlands packs

I probably have more backpacks than sense... Otherwise I wouldn't have so many! My favorites for all day hunts packing tripod and 15's is my 2200 for archery hunts and my E-stock J104 for rifle hunts. The feature I like about both of them is the fact that they can carry more out than what I carried in, limiting the number of trips back and forth I'd have to take to pack out the results of a successful hunt. Hmm, if I had to choose only one? Probably the 2200 as it has a lower profile and I like using it for archery hunts better than the J104. Both are very comfortable though, and I like the pocket configuration on the J104 better for packing lots of heavy gear, which tends to happen all to often. I also have the Badlands Diablo and an older Super Day. I like the ventilation of the Diablo, and a couple of times I've had it loaded down with 30-40 lbs and it was relatively comfortable, but probably close to maxing out. I'm looking forward to using it for archery deer this August. I don't use the Super Day much anymore. I've overloaded it (20+ lbs) a couple of times, and haven't found it to be very comfortable (for me) when overloaded. The lack of a supportive frame and load lifter straps make it seem more like a light day pack (15 lbs or less), which means short light trips. I'd rather wear a fanny pack or the Diablo when hunting like that, causing the Super Day to stay home... I haven't had any issues with my Badlands packs, although I did cut the bladder tube hole bigger on my 2200 after I got tired of messing with it. I may have to send it back to badlands to get 'fixed' correctly. The newer model 2200 fixed the small issues (small wing pockets and a couple of extra pockets on the sides) I had with the older 2200. Ron
  17. I've heard and have experienced that deer prefer to eat the dirt, while elk will lick the salt blocks... Awesome videos Amanda!

    Snakes

Here is a squirrel that didn't get so lucky... My dad found this and took the pictures last summer. It was just down the steps from his front porch.

    Beeline Highway

Doesn't look like the Beeline will be open anytime soon from those pictures! I've always seen wet spots on the pavement there and wondered if there was a spring underneath the highway there.
  20. That is awesome Josh! Thanks for sharing!

    BACKPACKING BOOTS OPINIONS NEEDED

When I used to backpack a lot (5+ times a year) I used Vasques. Last year I did a backpack bear hunt and used a pair of Danners. They did well, but were more of a hunting boot vs a backpacking boot, so the lacked some support I would have like to have had on the pack out. I just picked up a pair of Meindl Denali's with the Fit IQ. I'm currently breaking them in to use on another backpack bear hunt at the end of March. I'll try and remember to report back in about how they did. So far they are feeling comfortable and very supportive. Ron
