All three of my kids went through the course. My youngest took it on line in 2008. We drove a hour and a half to the nearest field day(we were desperate his hunt was a week away). Then a week later we drove 6 hours to the north kaibab for his first deer hunt! It was worth it to see my son shoot his first deer! I would of drove half way across the state to get his hunter education Card to experience that.

My Pastor and also a good hunting buddy. Yes I am blessed to have a pastor that loves to hunt! Anyway he just got back from two days of hunting and saw only does. Said he ran into a lot of private property. He hunted near peeples valley. He is going back up Monday. I'm thinking of going with him to help him out but I don't know this unit. If anyone is familiar with 20c. Any info is appreciated. He is not afraid to hike. Thanks

Thanks to everyone for the replies and pm's! Went up today with my pastor kinda rough day. Lots of rain and even snow up higher! We spent the day scouting out the areas I received from this awesome site. I had to come back this evening because of work. But he has a promising spot picked out for the morning. Hopefully with better weather some better luck!

My most famous miss happened in 1992. The year I was gonna be trophy mule deer hunter! I had a few bucks under my belt already. A couple spikes and a nice 4x4. Having shot a spike the previous deer season I told my brother and cousin who were hunting with me I was shooting only a big buck! True to my word on opening morning I had a spike broadside at 25 yards. I was a trophy hunter so I let him walk. Later that day there he was a monster mule deer at 150 yards! I was so excited. Too excited! Buck fever gotta hold of me! I fired at the big old boy but didn't even come close I think my shot landed on the moon! He ran off unharmed and I quit being a trophy hunter!

That is a Unit 8 buck. They are there but harder to find than the Mule deer!

First want to thank a fellow Coueswhitetail member for sharing info and pointing us in the right direction! Thanks Dug! My two sons 15yr old Austin and 16yr old BJ had drawn tags. The hunt began with snow flurries and very cold! We still managed to spot a nice fork and a 3x3, but with no Shots fired! Opening day ended with my Youngest son Austin missing a nice Fork! On Saturday my 16 year old BJ missed the same forkhorn twice, and began to get a bit discouraged! Then on Sunday morning my 16 yr old son decided to hunt with a friend Steve and his son who had a tag and had tagged out on a small buck Saturday evening! Sunday morning began uneventful, My 16 yr old BJ filled me in on his morning hunt and how he had missed a spike at a mere 80 yards! He was sounding very discouraged now! I shared my misses and success stories with him, hoping to encourage him! Anyhow to make a long story short, My Son and My friend and awesome hunting buddy Steve, decided to return to the area where he missed the spike and try and get him! Well off a long lonely old logging road, my son spotted a buck at about 2:20pm walking across a clearing that was only about 150 yards wide and had thick pines on each side. My son tried to get a good rest, as Steve told him calm down and take your time! My Son said he was trying to control buck fever, but couldn't stop his cross hairs from moving up and down so he tried to time his shot when his crosshairs were on the sweet spot! "Boom" The buck drops in his tracks!!! He made a 168 yard shot! On a beautiful 4x4! While all this is going on I'm driving back to camp with my 15 year old son Austin, doing about 60 down the highway, when I recieved a Text from Steve with a Photo of my Son and his Buck, I about drove off the road with excitement!!! I asked my Son later if he was glad he missed the smaller bucks and he said Yes!!! The hunt ended Monday evening with my Austin missing a Nice 3x3 at about 200 yards! My Son's Buck! Skinned and Ready for the Taxidermist! This is the Photo I recieved in the text while driving!

Thanks for the comments! We had a great hunt saw lots of deer. My son has a new outlook on hunting, he says he can't shoot spikes or forkhorns(I agree after his misses ). He now wants big bucks only ! I cant wait to put his will power to the test next deer season when a nice fat forkhorn stops broadside @ 50 yards! I bet he shoots !

Ok I admit it! I'm a Archery Addict! I need to attend some AA Meetings (Archers Anonymous)!!! I have been going out bowhunting rabbits at least once a week! Basspro, Cabelas, Pse pro shop,etc... anywhere that has archery gear it's like a magnet...I'm like a moth attracted to the flame .....oh well you get the point! Anyway heres some photos of a few of the rabbits I've taken! Shots ranged from 25 to 60 yards!

My two boys have the junior hunt in 7 next week. We will be heading up next thursday. We have scouted a few areas with limited success, mostly does and 1 3x3. Looking for any tips, advice, etc.. And yes I do want your honey holes! After all these are my boys! Any help is appreciated. Advice on a good campsite would be welcome as I have limited experience in 7. Thanks in advance!

My 2011 Archery Hunt began on Saturday August 27th. We arrived at our campsite around 2:30pm. Excited and ready to hunt we got camp set up in record time. Only for a heavy downpour to interrupt the Evening hunt! Sunday, Monday, not much of anything. Finally on Tueday Evening about 630pm I spotted a big 4x4 and a nice 3x3 in a small meadow feeding! Talk about pumped up,I was excited! I knew where I would be in the Morning! But things don't always turn out as planned! Wednesday morning arrived and I overslept by 30 mins!!!!! So as me and my hunting partner are on our way to find the bucks from the previous evening, We come across a Really nice 4x4, followed by a 2x2 and a spike! Instantly I know I want the 4x4, as I try to range them they see me and begin to walk away! I slowly begin to move in the direction they went, I notice they only went about 50 yards and the 4x4 has stopped broadside by a tree his head is partially covered by the tree but I can see part of his antlers, and the Spike is standing behind him, looking straight at me, I think to myself busted, but the spike just keeps looking my way. So I range the 4x4, Thanks to my Range Snap. I try to calm down, and draw my bow, I settle my pin behind his front shoudler and release! Thwack... is the sound I hear and I see the deer move! I immediately turned to my hunting partner and said I missed! I think it hit a branch, sounded like I hit the tree!! I was so upset!! I began to kick the dirt!!! Hey, I'm being real here! So I tell my buddy I'm gonna go find my arrow! Still upset I head up the hill to where the deer was when I shot. The deer was standing on the left side of the tree, I walk up towards the tree on the right side as get by the tree and begin to look for my arrow, I don't see no arrow, but Instead I see a dead deer about 6 feet behind the tree! With my arrow in it! What a suprise! I went looking for my arrow and found a deer! It wasn't the 4x4 though but the 2x2! I had lost track of them in the trees and brush as they moved the 50 yards, and it was actually the 2x2 that stopped by the tree not the 4x4! Thats ok I'm still excited, hey it's a archery buck, and in my book any archery buck is a trophy!!! I yell to my buddy I got one, it's not the 4x4, but a nice forkhorn!!! The thwack I heard that sounded like my arrow hitting the tree branch was actually my arrow hitting him in the spine, he only went about 6 feet and dropped! I learned a valuable lesson that morning(One I already knew, but I allowed my emotions to get the best of me) Never, I mean never take your eyes off the deer after the shot, even if its sounds like you hit a tree!!! Here he is!
