mulie hunter

JSULLY. We were finding the mulie bucks in the flats. They seem to like the thick mesquite and washes in 36a. We found a hill a few years back out in the low country. It doesnt look like much... just a lonely hill ... but we have taken 3 bucks from that area including this years buck.

We had a great time. Steve and his son were on the hunt with us. His boy steven shot a 29" wide 3x3 this morning. I will post pics soon.

Good job on the bucks. Stopped by the camp about 10am today. They said 5 bucks came in on friday. We ve only seen 4 bucks so far.

Im a rookie when it comes to elk hunting. I have hunted mule deer and javelina for years. But this was my second timde elk hunting and I learned alot! First off i thought harvesting a cow would be easy but 12 days into the hunt I realized she was a real trophy! And wow getting her off the side of that hill that was a job!

I forgot mention i met Jim White and his wife up there one evening,. Very nice people! I was parked on a forest service road and he stopped to talk!

I must add hunting elk during the rut is a blast, even if its a cow hunt! We were on elk every day.( yes i blew a few stalks and shot opportunities, but I was learning from my mistakes) We had bulls bugling around us cows mewing... It was blast trying to get in position for a shot! A couple times we had nice bulls stopped broadside for a shot, all while the cows kept moving! We chased bugles, sat water, still hunted ridges and most of all had fun! We ended up filling 2 of 4 tags!

During our pre season scouting we found some hills and ridges that the elk liked to bed down on in the afternoon. So after our morning hunt we would hike into these hills looking for elk. We did this every afternoon, day after day, seeing no elk in these hills, for 11 days this was our afternoon ritual with no success but hoping the elk would be there. On the 12th day of the hunt,we once again made the steep climb up the hill, as we made our way to the back side of the hill I mentioned to my hunting buddy and excellent elk spotter, the wind is wrong, we are not going to see any elk! We had not walked 50 yards when he said there she is. Directly in front of us was a cow elk broadside with her head down feeding, totally unaware of our presence! I dropped to one knee and ranged her at 35 yards(thanks to my rangesnap) split my 30 and 40 pin and placed it behind her front shoulder and watched the arrow hit its mark! To my surprise she didnt move just lifted her head and looked in our direction, I began to doubt my shot, so i nocked another arrow but before i could get off another shot, she ran down the hill and out of sight! My buddy said you hit her perfect! We retrieved the arrow good blood on it and we went back to camp and got two of our other hunting buddies. When we went to recover her we found her 40 yards from where last saw her! It was a perfect double lung shot! I was one happy hunter! I had harvested my first elk! And I was Thanking God!

In 2006 I asked fellow CWT members, about good binoculars under $500.00. The Nikon Monarch binoculars were highly recommended. So I purchased a pair of Nikon Monarch 12x56 binoculars, and they are great glass for the money. Fast forward to the 2011 archery deer season, while hunting the right eye cup breaks off, my left one gets dented, the lens get scratched. I remember when I bought them they came with a 25 year NO Fault warranty. They will fix them for $10.00 plus shipping even if its your fault they were broke. So what do I do when I get home from hunting? Nothing! I put the broken binoculars away and forget about them.Until I finally pulled them out on May 3rd of this year and called Nikon. They told me to send the binoculars to them, and they would fix them, So I mail them off the same day. So on Wednesday May 16th, I recieve a Brand new pair Nikon Monarch12x56 from Nikon, with a Letter from Nikon stating they could not fix my Old binoculars so they were replacing them with brand new ones. I say thats one awesome warranty! Here the New Bino's!

We went and picked it up today. Chris at Mount n View did a excellent job!

Never had the hunt. But was in the area in 2009 and saw a couple nice bucks come off that hunt.

So Chase bank was called and asked why they denied the charges, here's what Chase bank said: On 3/29/2012 and 3/30/2012 Game and Fish attempted to charge the card but the wrong expiration date was used on both attempts, so the card was denied! Chase bank also stated there were sufficent funds to cover the charges, but with the wrong expiration date they could not approve the charges. This is the same card that was used when we filled out application and the charges went through for that, so I know we entered the right date on the application. So I believe it is quite possible Game and fish made a error when they input the card info to charge the tags! But I guess I'm crying over spilt milk,nothing can be done now! Just wanted to vent!

I am going Elk hunting! Game and fish called, tags approved!!!! Got our second choice Unit 8 archery cow in September!!!
