    Ford mechanic in valley

Didn't know Fords ever needed a mechanic. Bet if you posted looking for a Chevy or dodge mech you'd be flooded with responses. Lol. Just teasing now let the ford haters bring it on.

    RMEF

Nah, there's none of that going on at these events.

This doesn't happen to be your purdy face with that fancy purse at the 1:15 mark does it? LOL It's a fun time. We've been sponsoring the event for I think 5 or 6 years now. Taken home some good prizes and met some good people over the years.

We'll be there. We have a table for 11 of us. Look for the Hayden Electric table and stop by to say hi if you'd like. Hopefully we'll be the ones winning all the guns and optics

    North valley garage door help

I've had great service from a company called KGDG. They're one of the non upsell type of service companies that won't try to screw you over something minor.

    I blew it . . .

Are the Bonus Point reports up by unit and species or is it just the overall bonus pass report? Curious to see how lucky I got this year. If someone has a link to the full report please post it up. Thanks

    Unit 10 Boquillas

I'm reaching out to see what you all know about hunting on the Boquillas. A buddy and myself both drew tags in 10 this year for Bull and this will be our first time on the Big Bo. I've been reading their rules and seen their "road map" if that's what you can call that fine document they put on their website. My biggest questions for anyone that has hunted there before are how is cell phone service, if any? And is there a road map or forestry map that covers this big chunk of privately leased land? Since there's two of us I'm sure there will be days where we hunt together and other days where we go our separate ways to cover more area. If one of us gets into some bulls or shoots one it would be nice to call the other for help packing him out. And of course it's nice to know we can get in touch with someone in case of an emergency. I've already downloaded and plan on printing USFS Topos and have different hunting apps and GPS topos... but nothing can beat experience and I'm hoping you all have something to share. I'll be getting out there to scout as soon as the ranch lets us on in August and plan on spending every free day I have scouting the whole unit (including outside of the ranch) up until our hunt starts. Anyways I'll keep this short, thanks in advance for your help guys.

4th Gen Dodge Owners? Let's see em'!

COOSEFAN how did you like the Kevlar MTR's? How many miles did you get out of them? Did they balance good? On road behavior good? Off road capabilities? Just curious cause I have a brand new set of 35" BFG Mud Terrain KO2s that I can't get to balance to save me. I've always depended on BFG's and they've always been awesome off road but now I can't get a set to balance out and it's driving me nuts.

KAZ let me know how that Wilson works out for you. Lv3hnt do you know if Healy ships free like Flatline does from their website? I live across town from Healy and I'd spend enough in gas to get there and back that I could've bought another GMU map. Thanks for all the great tips guys!

Sounds like the consensus is that Verizon has the best signal in the Bo area, luckily that's what we both have. Part of my scouting this fall will be figuring out where we do have cell service. Might have enough signal that we don't have to drop the coin on a sat phone or phone booster. I appreciate your input on how to hunt and I mean no disrespect but I am seasoned enough to know to stay mobile and that an animal won't be in the same spot in August or September as he will be in November, which is why I didn't start one of those "honey hole" threads, cause I know the elk are where they are and they can cover tons of ground in a day. Thanks for putting it out there though. We will be hunting before you guys (early Nov. muzzy) and with a whole lot less people than the late rifle hunt. Another question I do have for anyone that's hunted this area post rut, are the elk pretty much spread out throughout the whole unit or did you notice a trend in elevation or terrain they stuck to in higher numbers? Feel free to PM if you don't want the whole world knowing. Thanks again everyone for chiming in and giving your advice and input. Here's some pics of my previous success. I've been strictly hunting archery the last few years and this will be my first muzzleloader elk tag. Been 10+ years since I've shot a bull with anything but a bow.

I like this idea. If we each rent a sat phone then we don't have to be tied down to one phone booster (or spend hundreds each to have one) plus we can carry it in our packs. Do you have the name of the place you rented it?

    Unit 10 Boquillas

That's a good idea. What model Wilson do you use? Mobile / packable version or is it vehicle mounted?

    Unit 10 Boquillas

Appreciate all of the advice. Sounds like I'll be buying the Flatline map and looking into the AZGFD map. The scouting trips are going to be a huge payoff. Just knowing my access points, good camp location(s), places to glass from, where to get away from roads, yada yada yada... Our tag is in Nov so we don't have the luxury of screaming bulls so the binos are going to have to earn their keep. Already excited and it's still over 6 mos away. Thanks again for the tips and I'm all ears if you have some pointers you're willing to PM me about.

Good to know. Thanks Did you use the East and West U10 maps or just the one map that covers the whole unit? Looks like a different scale, wondering if the two individual East / West maps give more detail?

Toyota Tundra Owners..... Yea or nay

I'll chime in now that you drug me into it. I've owned Fords since I started driving. They are bullet proof vehicles except I was never fully satisified with their engines. In 2008 I switched to a Tundra for two reasons. 1. Good price and 2. I wanted to try out the new 5.7L. That was about the only thing I really loved about my Tundra (the motor). I lifted it, put 35's on it and used it for what it's meant for, but not too rough on it. Besides the power steering pump blowing out all of the seals and dumping my PS fluid into my CV boots and leaving me stranded once I never had any major problems. This happened on a city street sitting at a stop light, not like it was being abused and I only had about 20000 miles on it at the time. I will tell you that the front end was the weakest link on the whole truck. I couldn't put it through anything that I used to take my Ford's through without needing an alignment. My Ford's never had that issue. Then I started getting noises in the front end that NOBODY could figure out. I went to 4 different shops including one Toyota dealer and nobody could make it stop clunking. During my search for this mystery clunk it got me under the truck looking everywhere and that's when I noticed the radiator was about shot and was leaking slowly. This truck only had 60,000 miles on it and was falling apart on me. And I will honestly say that I never abused it like I have my Fords in the past. So long story short... I own a Ford again and am never looking back. The new 6.2L in my Raptor has plenty of power and this truck has zero bump steer that my Tundra had on and offroad. I may not get the best MPG now (actually about the same as the lifted Tundra, same size tires) and to all you Tundra owners that want to claim their 5.7L is faster than the 6.2L Ford, put 35's on it first and add the extra 500 pounds of stronger parts (wider axles and control arms and solid frame) then think again. I had to put this in here because that's the first thing the envious Tundra owners will claim. I didn't buy the truck to be a race truck, I just wanted reliability and something with enought power to get me where I need to go however fast I want to get there and then stay together long enough to get me back out of those places. I am in no way intending to bash on anyone's truck, just giving my opinion from being on both sides of this. I loved my Tundra, besides the problems mentioned above, but I love my Ford even more.

    Good Morning

Speaking of Trail Cam contests... Are you planning one soon? It's always cool to see what's out there. (And it never hurts to have a chance at winning some swag.)

    WTB Youth 22 rifle

I've got a Winchester wildcat (I think that's the model) that I might part with. It's probably got 40-50 rounds down it. Make me an offer. I'll look it up to see what they go for and we can work out a deal.

    Elk horn wedding arbor

Congrats on your friend's wedding. I made this arbor for my weddding last fall with Manzanita. It was up in Greer. It's not an elk horn arbor but there are sheds used at the base and my wife even had the whole place decorated with sheds that we've found over the last couple of years. Thats how you know you've got a keeper.

    2015 HAM hunt success :)

I was gonna say something about that. I think I need to get you a custom pink shirt made. That'll be the ultimate lucky shirt. It'll be hard to get Cody to wear the pink one though.

    2015 HAM hunt success :)

Don't you know Cody's gone all bunny hugger on us!?! He doesn't kill things any more cause he thinks they're all too cute and fuzzy, he just likes to go look at them and get all teary eyed when you poke holes in 'em.

    Antelope Taxidermy Advice

Awesome mount, can't believe you killed a gazelle with a spear!... It was tough getting close enough to use a spear but the loin cloth I was wearing allowed me to blend in with the natural surroundings.
