    The "Wrongway" Bull

Please no more pictures. I am sick of Elk. Besides, a mind is a terrible thing to waste. Take Redbeard, he shot his little ole 370ish bull over a week ago and you can tell he is still high as a kite. Who knows when he will touch down. I am sure his familyand few friends are concerned. Is there an Elk 12 step program? For me, my bitterness continues. People with Elk Tags suck. Bob

Well maybe if you drew a decent tag instead of the garbage dump or the cow pie patch with that limited opp. stuff you could get more people to go with you. Bob

    Short Ammunition Test

God dang it! I am ready to throw out this rifle. Oh ya it is not my rifle. I know you are probablly getting frustrated. I think I told you this on the last thread a couple months ago, but I will tell you again. I have had the same problems with grouping and flyers that you are having now with my most trusted rifle. I think due to all the fuss I had to go through allowed me to really get to know my rifle. The truth is I never solved the flyers when the gun heats up. It will still do it and I can perdict with accuracy where they are going. High and away right, like a screw ball. I have just learned not to move my scope on a heated rifle, and to let it cool (15 min) between 3 shot groups when sighting it in. So I feel you can make this rifle a shooter. I would try what Red Rabbit and the others have said. One device you should consider borrowing or buying is a bench rest. They are worth their weight in gold by saving money on ammunition when sighting in. It also saves in frustration because it takes most of the human error out of sighting in, so you can concentrate on the rifle to get it sighted in and not worry about the shooter. Below is a picture of one that I use and would recomend. Bob standard_item.htm
  4. I am trying to set up a real light tripod, but I am real fussy about how smooth and steady a tripod head is. I was wondering if some people have used a ballhead type head or a ballhead plus a Jim White pan head attachment (very light) and what was their experience like. I don't like pistol grips and my current fluid head is great (does everything I need) it is just a monster that weighs as much as the tripod legs. I would like to try out different set ups, but it seems the internet has killed off the camera store. Any input would be appreciated. Bob

    Short Ammunition Test

Devin, you are right I must of confused myself with some other round. If you go back and put in a 350 yard zero in the ballistic calculater. You will get results similar to what you have 5.5 high at 100 and 7.7 inches high at 200, but the 25 yard mark is + .7 inches high. So what i would do is pick one type of bullets shoot it cold and clean at 25 yards. If it is hitting back at dead nutz center at 25 your gun may have a heating problem. if it is hitting higher then 1/2 inch at 25 then adjust it down. Bob

    Short Ammunition Test

Devin, First did you sight in each bullet at 25 yards. From the pictures it seems the Federal was the only one that was dead nutz center. This bullet should be approx 3 inch high at 100 and 5" at 200. The other bullets even if they are slightly high from 25 yards will fly considerably higher! If you were 1/2 inch high at 25 you would get the 5 inches at 100 and 8 inches at 200. The contact could be a problem, but when i have experienced the problem it would group first 6 shots and then send flyers considerably right and high. Your groups (Though not great) seem to be patterning close by each other. Before doing anything else I would pick one bullet that you think is best. The federal looks best to me and adjust your scope to 3" at 100 and see where it hits at 200 since this is your realistic hunting distances. Bob

    Ball head + Panning atachment.

Desert Bull, Red Rabbit, Thank you. I can't believe I wasted many hours surfing the internet when I could of just asked you guys. The 700rc2 sounds just what I am looking for. This head is both in my weight and price range. Once you try a fluid head you can't go back to any other type. One last question, is this head smooth like butter? Bob Red Rabbit I have used the velbon maxi i 387 which I believe is similar to the LUXI-f, but I had stability issues. Which was a shame since the thing was so compact it could fit in my little water bladder backpack. How is the LUXI-f stability with a medium sized pair of binocs.

    The "Wrongway" Bull

Jim, Awesome story, Awesome bull. Wrongway is so symmetrical it makes gross scores almost NET scores. I am hoping this bull will at least move C.A. down a notch. Congratulations to you and The Elk herding team. This is a great accomplishment. Bob
  10. Got this in the E-mail. Name of deceased is Wrong Way. Does some site moderator know something about this Bull? Bob
  11. Lance, I am astounded that many people still don't realize the enviornmental disaster that is happening on our border. I still cannot believe that our government has done nothing but encourage it with the pro illegal immigration policy. I know you and your organization has certainly done their part to get the word out and you must feel like Sisyphus. I would like to make a suggestion that is probably counter-intuitive, but hopefully you will see my logic. Maybe Hunters Who Care and all the other organiztions that help out need to STOP DOING THE CLEANUPS. Let the garbage pile up. Let the beautiful desert become the largest dump ever. Put out water level stakes in all the washes. Backpacks are running 2 feet today, plastic water bottles are at 4'. And maybe by the time you could see the garbage pile from space the people that could actually do somehing to stop this destruction will act. This may actually bring about change faster then what is happening now. Bob
  12. GUYS DO NOT BELIEVE THIS CRAP. THIS IS ALL MADE UP BULLSHI- THAT HAS BEEN GOING AROUND THE INTERNET FOR YEARS. HERE IS A SIMILAR STORY in 2002. http://www.snopes.com/politics/immigration/taxes.asp DOES THIS SOUND SIMILAR. DON'T BE A SUCKER. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FBI/INS REPORT AND IF THERE WAS THESE NUMBERS ARE NOT IN IT. DON'T FORM OPINIONS FROM COMPLETE FABRICATIONS. DON'T CONTINUE THESE LIES BY STATING THEM AS FACT. YOU WILL JUST LOOK STUPID. "95% OF CRIMINALS IN L.A. ARE ILLEGAL ALIENS", COME ON. BOB PS Hey Bowsniper nice new avatar. Like the tall rack with the kicker. Need more pictures.

  14. I have tried many different types of ats. BFG are by far the best in durability and reliability. I can even get a different brand at dealers cost and I still go with BFG. Bob

    Trail Cameras

I don't use trail cams, but do enjoy the pictures of the nice bucks. When I look over an area to see if I want to hunt it ,I use a strange far-fetched technique. Maybe some of you guys have heard of it. I look at the ground for indentations that are possibly made by deer. For some inexplicable reason the bigger these indentations are, the more excited I get. Yet, I won't know the score, the antler configuration, the spread, whether it is a coke addict or even if the animal is male or female. All I really know is that the deer has big feet. Still if those feet are big enough I may choose to hunt that area. I know. You don't have to tell me. I have a foot fetish. Maybe I need to get with the program and buy a trail cam. Bob P.S. Bill, if we had a grammar police, we would all be in jail. Tony, What happened to that "policy". All I can say is touche'. LMAO.

  18. Bill, I didn't want to come off like the ethics police it is just in the heat of the moment I often lose all common sense and start worrying about bullet drop and wind, elevation change ect instead of assessing the big picture. "gee I can ease down to that next ridge over there and cut off 150 yards. Which could solve alot of those bullet drop dilemas running around in the head. I think a check list is a great idea. I am still amazed at my reaction after spending days glassing for a nice buck at how surprised I am when I actually see one. "Oh My God! There is a deer over there!" Brain turns to jello. Yes, a checklist attached to the gun is a good idea. Bob

  24. Guys, Lay off Jeepers creepers he accidently deleted the photo. I had him sit down with an FBI sketch artist to give us an idea what this deplorable camera molester looks like. Please don't jump to any conclusions and go off half cocked, this is just a drawing. Just trying to help. Bob
  25. Why is it that G+F only worries about overharvest with a bow? What about rifle. When a unit has higher harvest success with a rifle tags, what does G+F do? They don't limit the tags, but increase them. Bow hunting success goes up what does G+F do they limit bow hunting opportunity. Does this not look completely biased toward rifle hunting. Bob
