I know you have your heart set on a Trophy mule, but I believe your tag is an any antlered tag. Don't write off coues all together. I have seen monster whitetail down in the traditional mule deer country. In addition you have a good chance at a whopper, but it is not a easy hunt by any means. You will earn any deer you get. Please post the pictures of you monster when you get him. Good luck, Bob

Do you mean two blade expandables from Rage, Vortex or Sonoran Or do you mean fixed blade cut on impact Like Mangus, Zwicky or steel force. I have tried all three of the cut on impact two blades and I never could get a decent group with them past 40 yards. Bob

I think that is the stuff written on the Dr. Bonners Soap bottle. You know the hippie soap that is good for the environment in the camping stores. Bob

I know this is a sick question and I would never do it. Sort of "if it is legal it is ethical" deal but we all know it is illegal to shoot a SOW with cubs present, But I believe it is perfectly legal to shoot the cub. Am I right about that. Bob

You probably only single lunged him which is not good enough on a elk. You were lucky to find him at all. I used a spitfire on a bull in 2001 and had a clean pass through and short 100 yard recovery. Would never say anything bad about them. I have never used the Rages or Grim reapers so i will amend my previous post to say that if I were to use mechanicals the three that I have used and trust are Rockets ,First Cut by game tracker and Spitfires. But I will probably never change or experiment with anything else either. I have confidence in the muzzy 100 grain 4 blades. If things don't go right I know the only thing to blame is the shooter. Having confidence in your equipment is the most important thing. Bob

Huntin Coues, That sucks, no worse feeling in hunting. Did you get a pass through? Were you able to recover the broadhead? to see if it malfunctioned. Are you a muzzy guy now? Bob P.s. Maybe I need to rethink my previous advice.

60 # is plenty if you have a modern bow. Shoot the # you are comfortable with. Speed is only one factor in penetration or blades opening on mechanicals. Kinetic energy and of coarse shot placement are the others. Usually the heavier your arrow the higher K.E. If you are shooting above 250 feet per second with at least a medium size arrow of 400 grains or better any modern broadhead should have a clean pass through on a broadside vital shot. So don't worry about broadhead and penetration and all that other MARKETING BS from the bow companys. Worry about the important things--- finding a nice animal and getting a good shot without shaking too much. ( I am still working on that). I used mechanicals for years and never had one fail even when shooting a bow way slower than your bow. I stopped using mechanicals a few years ago for three reasons. 1 They are noisy in the quiver. 2 I got tired of always worrying about rubber bands and O rings. 3. I can buy 6 Muzzys for the price of three Mechanicals. Bob

Time for a name change!
bobbyo replied to azcouesandelk's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I don't like any of the poll names How about "one with broken limbs." or maybe something with some sack, like "Coues Warrior" or "Serial Coues Killer" or "CouesandElk whacker" or maybe just plain "Whacker" or possibly the most poetic. "View to a Kill". Bob -
SHED WARS. I love it! Maybe that should be the name of the movie. A long time ago, in a mountain range far far away. Bob

If you did not get drawn, don't despair, there are some awesome leftover tags. I might trade what I got for some of them. There is still hope.

Charlie, If you wanted to go more for a budget scope you might want to look into a Burris fullfield II. 4.5X14 I have one on my sons 243 savage and I am very pleased with it. It took me exactly three shots to zero it. So I know the windage and altitude adjustments are precise. It has held its zero even with my son dragging it on the ground. Plus it has hold over plexes that would be handy on a 350 yard shot. I paid just over $200 on ebay and believe they run $250 at SW. If you have more money to spend, Leupold is the ticket, probably 80% of the people on this site including myself swear by them. Bob

The obvious question is, was Jim wearing the Binocs when she ran them over?
-
Bob, Thanks for the heads up. Bob

Wait a second Jimbo. You are not getting off this easy. We need to hear the story, no matter how painful, on how a pair of your beloved ELs got under your wife's tire. An excerpt of the conversation right after this tragedy would be a great learning experience for all us other happily married people. By the way, we will keep it in the family. Brother, Bob

D. That Blue Jay is awesome. Bob -
Finally got my trophy room the way I like it. Remember everyone of these animals is a trophy to me. No matter how small. Enjoy.

It amuses me every time there is a broadhead question. Seems to be a lot of worry and extra money paid to get the "best penetration". "Wow my blah blah broadhead fully penetrated my Elk." If you do a decent shot on any North American animal you should have a full pass through with any broadhead . If you are worried about penetration you should look more to the weight of your arrows then the shape, brand name, or cost of your broadhead. The most and maybe only important thing to consider in choosing a broadhead is arrow flight with your chosen archery set up. If you are accurate with your broadheads and have properly weighted arrows.(KE) All you need to do is make a good shot and you will have a clean pass through and a short blood trail; even if your broadhead can't penetrate a brick or go all the way through a foam target. Mike, Way to be skeptical of what you read on the internet. You dont' need to be well read or highly scientific to figure out that putting a lot of smoke and invisible gases in the air. is probablly not a good idea. Maybe pollution causes global warming, maybe it causes global cooling, maybe it causes no climate change whatsoever. The bottom line is it does not take a genius to figure out that a bunch of smoke in our atmosphere is probably not a good idea. The thing that I feel people don't understand is the magnitude that the smoke/pollution/greenhouse gases is going to increase. I think people in Arizona don't understand how densely populated the world is. In India 336 people per Square km, Japan 339 per km. China 142 per Km, Indonesia 117 per km, United states 31 per square km. Arizona 17.43 per square KM Until recently these people in the emerging world have lived without cars, electricity, heating. Now they want it and are more economically able to buy it. What is our air going to look like when suddenly 2 billion Chinese drive VW bugs? 1 billion Indians in glorified Yugos. I know many laugh at me and think I am drinking the koolaid, la la Bob thinks the sky is falling what a whimpy chicken little or even Al Gore's little bitch . We have noting to worry about in Arizona our air is clear, but there is only one atmosphere and we can't build a fence to hold out the interloppers. I trully worry because I have personally experienced the effects of poor air quality. I grew up in LA in late 60s and early 70s. I spent most of that time (0-9) wheezing and hacking like someone with a 2pack a day habit. I would have episodes were getting a breath became such a struggle that the alternative seemed more appealing. Doctors doped me up three times a day on, what I know now to be, a powerful amphetamine. "Just has severe asthma" is what the doctors would say to my worried sick parents." Maybe allergies, maybe moisture," never mentioning the brown soot in the sky. Finally my dad figured it out and moved us out of that cesspool. Strangely, I suddenly grew out of my asthma when I didn't have smog in every breath. So please excuse me when I get worried that I could be reliving those 70s glory days all over the planet or even worse seeing my kids or grandkids go through that experience. I certainly have a glimpse of the past every time I drive into the Valley or Tucson. Why is it so hard to see those mountains through that brown Sh--.

Doug, That last batch of pictures look like post cards. Beautiful pictures. Professional looking. Is that a high definition camera you are using? Bob

Come on guys it is not the condors or the wolves fault these areas are getting closed. iTS THE IDIOT ATVERS. LETS BLAME WHO IS RESPONSIBLE. SHOULD WE POST A RANGER ON EVERY TWO TRACK? hOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE YOU REPORTED FOR NOT DRIVING IN DESIGNATED AREAS. You probablly would report a poacher, but not a wayward ATVER. Every problem in Arizona wilderness is not the stupid a-- ,lead eating, chicken hawks fault. BOB
