    Practice much?

95 percent of the time it shouldnt be attempted. All i'm saying with knowledge and 5 percent of the time it's doable. In my years of guiding i've seen so many elk get wounded under 40 yards and broadside shots to boot. There's guys that could shoot the eye out of a gnat that can't hit the broadside of a barn if it's an animal. With all the broadside wounded bulls i've witnessed over the years from clients and friends one could argue very well that even a broadside shot is unethical. Heck one could argue that more bulls get wounded with a bow every year than actually die when hit with an arrow. There's some that think based on the kill/wounded rate of archerty hunting elk that using a bow is unethical. Where's the line for unethicalness to be drawn. I would like to hope it's in the eye of the beholders capabilities and or talents that the ethical argument begins and ends.

    Practice much?

At 15 yards or less and at that time shooting bottle caps sized groups at 50 yards, it was nearly impossible to be off more than an inch on the shot. Knowing exactly where the spot to hit is more about it all, and I knew exactly where to shoot. It's not lucky in any way to put an arrow at that distance within an inch or less or where I was shooting. These days I'm not nearly as good of shot as I was back then so the shot would have tk be 10 yards or less, and there would be no luck required to put an arrow right up that canal no problem. To each his own on your opinion of my shot, and it's all good that you feel this way , but that's an easy shot for someone that's proficient with a bow, and Better yet calm when shooting at an animal. 2 reasons luck played zero role in my shot. First being knowing the spot I shot at which isn't just an butt shot and being very proficient with a bow.Anyways I respect your opinion and I wouldn't recommend anyone shooting the shot on an elk, unless it's super close and they know the structure of the animal. Yep and no elk has ever moved more than an inch between when you squeeze the release and when the arrow gets there has it? I am only pitching in this ethics battle because it shouldn't be promoted to take questionable shots when you could let it walk and work on getting a better shot. It's not life or death for you so don't make it suffer for your bragging rights. Unless you just like to look at butt holes and that's your thing. I'll take shots i'm proficient with and i know can be done at close distances, and you can choose not to take shots i'm comfortable taking. It's all good. That's the great thing about this, you don't have to do something i would do, and don't have to not do something cause you can't handle it or wouldnt do it. Calm down a little you seem like your getting a little horny over the subject at hand. Just saying!!

Shot a 335 bull in 4 a in 1995 right up the wazzo at 15 yards facing straight away bugling. Bull went 30 yards and it was over. It's a doable shot if your really close and can make sure it goes up the poop shoot. Haven't tried that shot again but if it's under 15 yards and I'm sure I can punch it through the canal I would do it again.

    What do you guys think?

I understand what your saying here and not disputing it either. Just seems like the situation wemt just fine in the long run so why not let the bull stealers enjoy their plunder and move on. If it was me I would have moved on the second the bull stealers arrived and focused my energy not on anger but on having fun harvesting the second bull. Heck I probably would have offered the bull to the bull stealers anyways before things got ugly just to maintain the peace and enjoy the rest of the hunt like it sounds like the original shooter did just that. There's 2 ways to handle these kind of situations. One way is to take the " mine , mine , mine " way and the other is to settle it peacefully. I would actually feel sorry for 2 dudes willing to stoop that low and take the bull and give it to them out of feeling sorry for them willing to do that. That's the diff between you and I. I would walk away and enjoy the rest of the hunt and turn the other cheek and maybe find some happiness in the bull stealers smiles knowing they must really need an elk harvested that way so badly they were willing to do that and go have more fun myself. I had no idea suck a Tinny bull could cause so much Contraversy. I guess in all honesty if the bull would have been a 380 plus I would have felt kinda similar , but even then I would get over it quickly in order to enjoy the rest of the hunt myself. What the guys did wasn't right but is carrying on like everyone else is still right either. The guy killed another elk, I'm still trying to understand how anyone got hurt here after the dust settled. Seems like everyone got made whole, end of story

    What do you guys think?

Went home empty handed after passing several more bulls. The hunt overall was fun though and no regrets. I'm saying if someone wants an animal that badly to do what happened in this story then let them have it. They must need the kill a lot worse than i do. Just saying. Having fun in the field trumps the small stuff.

    What do you guys think?

I just think getting your panties all bunched up over something that happens like this in the field is a waste of time. I've been involved in situations like this several times in the field, and somehow it turns out ok.I lost a 240 non typical in the kaibab this exact way, and i ended up shooting a 222 buck an hour later. Its all good is the saying in my mind. And yes, if i had a tag and i shot a small to medium bull and someone else did what happened here i would be glad it was happening and joyous that i got to keep hunting. More time in the field equals more fun for me. Seems like everything turned out for the best in this situation, both for the guys that kept the first bull and the guy that lost the first bull. I had a 3c tag 20 years ago and had a bull come by me fast one morning. I couldnt tell he had been hit with a bow already as it was on the other side. He looked just fine, and my arrow buried deep in the sweet spot. I went back to the truck and was waiting awhile to go look for the bull when a guy was walking down the road hanging his head low. He expalined he just hit a bull himself, and i told him i just did also. We walked into where i had shot last and both walked up to the bull. My shot was better than his but i offered him the bull seeing his arrow was also in the elk. He took my offer and i went on hunting with the "it's all good attitude". Everything tends to work out "if you dont let your panties get all bunched up over it" , just as it worked out in this situation. Am i missing something here? I guess after several experiences like this and it always seems to work out i've learned not to sweat the small stuff. Let a guy that wants to do what the hunter that took the bull in this story did, and unbunch your panties and move on. Simple concept.

    What do you guys think?

This situation went amazingly well. To get a 2 fer on the deal was awesome. Everytime you decide to draw your bow and Let r fly the adrenaline is the same. Losing one mediocre bull at best to get to draw again for the same needle of adrenaline legally on the second bull was indeed a sweet deal and a bonified 2 fer. 2 legal shots of adrenaline on one tag. Does not get any better. I can only wish this whole situation happened to me every year I have an elk tag. Couldn't have gone any better. Hope fully the second bull was a trade up but it's all good if it wasn't. I would be calling the dudes that kept the first bull and thanking them for the ride!!!!

    What do you guys think?

I'll bet the guide walked away because he didn't agree with the tagging if the bull. I guide and I would give my 2 cents and then walk away also. I wouldn't post the pics of the guide , that isn't fair to the guide. He walked a way for a reason, or he would have stayed if he agreed.

    Loren McReynolds Goes Down

In 1995 the game and fish tried to pin some very serious charges on my brother. They wrote tickets and preceded to shame my brother into folding like a cheap suit. From shooting a deer in the wrong unit to another serious charge they thought they had my brother tarred and feathered from the get go. If the Internet was around back then everyone would have thought he was a total scumbag and guilty as sin. They confiscated my brothers net typical coues he shot and we went to court. Turns out the unit manager didn't even know his own unit boundaries and tk make a long story short the judge literally was so disgusted with the g and f that he dropped the gavel while laughing at the game and fish out loud in court. He also made them apologize on record and out loud to my brother and the crowd in court. The judge was blown out of the water that this case even made it to court. Point is let's see where the real evidence lies and what happens when it's all presented.

    Don't kill it

If it's up north and the black ones and on the way into a stand or camera I frequent they die every time. Reason is those snakes seem to live in a small area and will be seen again on the next hike into the stand or camera. It's a matter of time with the black ones that you will run into them again becasue of their small home range. The rest of the rattlers I leave alone.
  17. Lots of big bucks in 10 this year. Been helping a friend archery hunt off and on. Last morning and I'm looking at 3 bc bucks right now. Ones probably 87 inches. And this spot is far from a way out of the way place. Pretty common place I would say.

Scouting package or not that's a major score right there. Time and dedication can't be bought, and it sounds like you maxed both of those out. Awesome job, congrats.

    Miserable Elk

Don't worry about it. I takes a a lot of effort to find them. Took me 8 days up there to find even one elk. Chances someone goes up there and finds any are slim to none. And besides those elk cycle in and out of there and can be away from 4 peaks one week later.

    Miserable Elk

Theres plenty of elk on mt ord. Ran cams there several years ago and got lots of terd sizes bucks and several bulls. As for 4 peaks i know where there are at least 40 elk at least 2 years ago. Hard to find pockets but they are there for sure. One bull was about 360.

Hunting has Changed for the Worst...

It's the all the look at me stuff that's ruining hunting. Everyone's got a facebook page/ blog now trying to capitalize on ego. It's all the fakeness that has been injected into the sport. People watch reality tv shows and know by now it's all scripted and fake , but the hunting world hasn't caught up with the fact that the amount of fakeness in all the look at me stuff and behind the scenes bs that goes on in most of the major look at me's out there. 9.5 out of 10 times when it comes to the most famous look at me's, there's an aweful lot of bs behind the scenes. Such as not finding their own animals, using others to plunder info from because of the "worshiping factor" but not giving credit for said plundered info , taking responsibilty for finding animals that are harvested by said look at me whether governors tags or guided animals , and the list goes on and on. All this fakeness has begun to train the average guy in the art of being an butt and being fake like the teachers. If theres ego or money being made off a blog or anything else in hunting make sure you assume that theres an aweful lot of fakeness involved and downright deceit. The one's with the biggest egos out there pioneered what we see now in hunting over the last 12 years or so, all for their own ego gain and pocket book. Next time you catch yourself "worshiping" one of the ego monsters out there, take a long hard smell for all the bs behind the scenes. And make sure you almost assume that your being tricked and dog and ponied like a 6 year old literally. It still blows my mind just how easy it is to trick grown men and women into "worshiping" or believing everything they are told in the hunting scene. It's comical to watch it.
