Congrats on the new bow. I also recently jumped ship, from Hoyt to Elite. Don't get me wrong Hoyt makes a great bow and I'm not getting rid of my X-tec anytime soon. I just couldn't pass up the deal on the GT-500 that came by. I'll make a deal for you, I'll pass on the big bucks in Aug if you'll pass on the big bulls in Sept.

Lark, You are a jackass. For your information...due to your "enquiring" mind, I started my LR shooting in the USMC in 1991. After 3 yrs, I did a lateral transfer to the Army. I became 18 series qualified in 1994, (18B) that's SF weapons sergeant. In 1999 I went to the Army Sniper School. In Dec 2001 I deployed to Afghanistan for a 1 yr tour and what I did/accomplished there ISN'T YOUR F-ING BUSINESS! In 2004 I attended the Phoenix PD sniper school. All moron's seem to want to rate a shooters ability by body count. In AZ I have none and I'm grateful for that. By the way you don't know much about Law Enforcement snipers, I've got three former teammates with "sniper" shootings in Mesa AZ alone in the last couple of years. But AZ body counts wouldn't mean much in LR shooting anyway. A police sniper likely wont need to shoot very far, less than 50 yards most of the time, whereas a military sniper wants to be as far away as possible and still make the shot. Think about it Lark (I know it is hard to use both of your brain cells at the same time) but how is a police sniper going to make a long range shot in an urban environment (that means a lot of building around)...other than an airport. Go back to pleasuring yourself with Soldier of Fiction Magazine and romance novels about Vietnam.

My last few months on the team (PD) the department purchased two of them in .308. Hands down the nicest factory rifle I've ever fired. Available to the civilian market as well.

Huh? What the Sam heck are you talking about? What did you just say Willis? You are simply flat out wrong on this one Lark. Provided all things being equal, a heavy barrel will out preform a skinny barrel 9.999999 times out of 10. The advantage comes from making the barrel stiffer, ie less flexible. As for heat, the barrel heats from the inside out so it makes no sense that a heavy barrel permits rapid firing more so than a skinny barrel. A heavy barrel does dissipate heat faster than a skinny barrel however. All that means is that you needn't wait as long between strings of fire to cool the barrel. As for the military and police sniper's, I can speak from experience & not from Soldier of Fiction Magazine. We carried heavy barreled weapons because they were more accurate P. E. R. I. O. D. End of story. There are a lot of great barrel makers out there, Krieger, Hart, Douglas, Lilja, just to name a few. I also had a Schneider on my SR-90, didn't care for it much. The SR-90 on the team with a Lilja simply shot circles around the Schneider. But that is just one man's experience with two different rifles, do what you will with it. I've spoken with Dan Lilja a few times about the subject. He is extremely knowledgeable about barrels. By 200 rounds, it wouldn't shoot the heavy jacket Bergers. Now he is stuck with Accubonds as everything else blows up in mid-air. Berger recommends a 9 twist for that bullet. Lilja talked him into a 7 twist. I told him that Dan probably didn't have a different button for 3-groove 7mm. He called Dan and asked him- he didn't! He simply talked this guy into buying the ONLY 3-groove barrel he could provide. Dan thought he knew more about it than Walt Berger and Bryan Litz. Dan makes some of the best 22 RIMFIRE barrels in the world but I wouldn't buy one of his other barrels on a dare! I have talked to him enough times to form this opinion. He makes a better barrel than me, but he is a salesman and does NOT have the consumer's best interest in mind. Dennis - I'm somewhat shocked by your post. In over a decade in the sniping community, those are the first negative words I've ever heard about Dan Lilja or Hart for that matter. All BDC scopes must be set at a certain power to be accurate, usually it is the maximum power. I've owned the Nikon and Leupold bdc scopes. I didn't like the circles on the nikon, they were too big and left too much room for guessing/error. the small hash marks in the leupy are better in my opinion.

If you all recall. 2008 was a very wet year. As a result, the Bulls had tremendous antler growth and there several huge, dare I even say world class bulls taken that year. 2010 is shaping up to be another awesome year for rain fall. The hills are green and the tanks are full! Congrats to all those who've been blessed with tags.

Elevation and temperature. If my memory is correct, every 2k feet of elevation change will alter your point of impact as will temperature changes....I want to say 20 degrees, but I'd have to check my notes on the latter.

Dennis, Rod and I have used his Lecia to range over 1300 yards (a single tree) on several occasions. The method for LR hunting that you write about is the preferred method for hunting INHO. That being said, we had the "dial of death" on our M24's with Leupy MkIV. The scope was excellent and I liked the range dial it (yards and not MOA). It was a third dial on the scope calibrated specifically for the M118LR. That is one bullet at one speed PERIOD otherwise the dial was useless. If you plan to hunt with one bullet, one powder, primer, brass, etc. etc. then by all means the Husk system is for you.

Oh if it were only that simple! It pretty much is if you do all the prework and have everything dialed. ...and Obviously hunting conditions MUST be good in order to execute an ethical longrange shot. I have the Huskemaw and think it is great! I find the optics to be equal to Leupold every day of the week... It is not Swaro or Ziess glass but the system that Huskemaw sells and the customer service that goes with each product you buy from them is what make this scope one of a kind. With out buying a Night Force or beyond... there is no one selling as comprehensive of a Longrange Hunting set up IMO.... C&S, I've done my fair share of LR shooting. Having graduated both military and LE sniper schools I think I can speak from experience and tell you that it is never as easy as range, click, kill. Shooting conditions are rarely, dare I say almost never, ideal. A slight breeze of 4-5 mpg wind at even 600 yards will move your bullet. Then again when I shoot LR, I'm not just trying to hit an Elk sized target. I'm trying to hit something the size of a soda pop can.

I agree sounds like total bull to me. For all those who've called and spoke with a G&F employee for info, I can tell you from personal experience that in large government agencies (or any gov agency for that matter) information never flows timely or accurately. Additionally, put yourself in their shoes. Every year this time, it is one phone call after another with someone hoping to get the inside scoop as to when the draw results will be posted. I think after the 300th phone call, I would start making stuff up too.
