  1. Sorry guys if I sound like a croutchity old SOB. I"ve been working 20 hr days, 6 days a wk. I am FRIED. Things have slowed a bit & after i sleep a week I'll be my pleasant self again... yuk, yuk, yuk..... DH
  2. Whoooo... there DEERSLAM" I'm not quite sure what you ment by you're P.S. quote. If you new Jay Gates you would know that he took 8 slams in 8 consecutive years. Most were true trophys & taken on his own. There was a time when you could hunt private prop. by asking & being a good stewart. He is one heck of a deer hunter. Since those days he continues to kill some truely monsterous bucks, of all species. He just does'nt care if anybody knows. DH
  3. All it takes is $$ and the right connections. You do have to be a good hunter and shoot straight but the above is a huge help. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    whitetail in unit 33

My son also drew this tag. The last 7/8 years I've had access to a ranch on the E. side of the Rincons, dang nice with no quads or people!!! But he never drew there. Now it has sold & we might have to look elswhere. Don't know much about the rest of the unit, except alot has burned which is a good thing, But i don't even know where those areas are. I know some of you can point me in the right direction to get started. Just want some solitude & him to have a chance at a good buck. I'm afraid he is losing intrest do to having to spend more time avoiding the masses on 4 small wheels, then chasing bucks. Not like it use to be, Alot more tags, but alot less people in the field.????? Thanks, DH

    Antelope

My real fear is he will get drawn for early bull & I'll get that Ant. tag. Same hunt dates.... He can have my Dec. Coues Tag... All the Elk Tags... Sheep will come??? But he just going to have to wait on the Ant. I've been called a Cold Hearted Bastard before, I'm not offended. I will take him to Mex. & Alaska In the next few years. So he's not hurten. DH

Don't care, Kill'em all...All ready have my desert sheep....I'm done... I don't even put my son in for Ant. Keep him out of the pool. I know I'm sick, but there is a cure. DH

    Youth Javelina Report

My son was successful on Sat. morn. in 36a. One shot, 129yrds. It's his second pig, as he took one in 02" in the same place. It was ABSOLUTELY the best hunt we were on all year. We both needed it. Even though it was just a pig, I love it when a plan comes together. We had the whole place to ourselfs. NO Quads, or IAs, not a sole. Some real quality time. Those JR. hunts are great. Reminds me of the days when no one lived in this State. Thanks AG&F, DH

    Rude hunters

I also had a #22 tag this year. Those that thought this would be a quality hunt must have been surprised. 450 tags, Plus the Bowhunters. ...I knew what I was in for. Quads, Quads, Quads.... Everybodys got one. The Forest service had also closed some of the roads into the Willow fire, due to the weather I guess????? But that didn't stop the Quads. I hope the G&F raises the fees so high you have to sell you're "Devil Dog" in order to afford to hunt. Az. hunting has changed so much sense those dang things hit the ground. If you "NEWBEES" only knew..... A quality Az. hunt is a hard thing to find these days & it's not just USO that has caused it. Missing the not so long ago days. DH
  11. I see an awful lot of stories about guys who make shots (bow or rifle) that are good hits. Lots of blood, knock downs, ect. They do the follow up, hours, days, whatever. They belive the buck is dead but can't find it. Then they continue to hunt, killing & taging another buck. I think this happens a lot. Doesn't anyone consider stopping thier hunt. Or afterwords thinking about the fact that they killed 2 deer. I for one would be done. What do you think??? DH

    Rut activity yet?

I feel for you man. I hate those F*&^ing things!!! & all who use them. Those that say it's just one or two bad apples that run amuck. I say BULLSHIT, it's more like 1 in 50 that don't ride illegally. Maybe if they raise the tag prices high enough they'll have to sell the Devil Dogs" in order to aford to hunt. I think it's one of the biggest threat to hunting we have. DH

    "Hunter" preparedness?

Boy, that's not how i saw it. 20 years ago there were only a handful of guys useing big bino's on a tripod. This last wk. end in 36c it seemed like every tit or ridge had hunters sitting on top with tripod glass, even after 2 hrs of hiking in the dark. Only saw a couple walking & hunting old school. Hey Bullwidgen. . There must have been 10 guys with keys to that gate, as every truck on the road drove right on through. these old legs,& my son had to walked a heck of a lot farther. How did the 35a hunt go?? Seth missed a 85" buck twice at 328 yds. & we missed a opp. at a toad, 105"plus Got dark as he froze up behind a mesquite, doing that big buck thing" Nice to see you after all the close encounters. DH
  14. My son has a tag in 36c Nov. Just need a good solid 90" buck. Could still use some advice. Have'nt scouted enough. to much work, & elk hunting. Anybody else have thoughts after the Oct. hunt. DH

    Hey Bullwidgeon/36c

Hey Brett, You still out there???? Give the Sathoff's a call (Bill or Adam), Nobody knows 35A better. & after the help you're family gave Adam with his sheep I'm sure they'll help with info. DH

    34b toad

A guy from Sierra Vista killed a 132" gross buck in 34b. My buddy scored it on Sun. A clean 3 pt. 5.7 H1. 12.5 G2, 21' mains. WOW what a toad. I should have pics soon. DH

    Governor Tag

I only know about one of the hunters. He's not a Non-Res. He has contributed tons to Az. The buck was just under 120" & he took it the first Wk. end, Maybe the first few hours. He & his buddies have done this many times in the past, & have killed some real toads, generally in the same area. No guides they just know their shoot. He just likes to hunt early, & would have been just as happy with a 105" buck. I would love to hunt those big boys in the velvet. (not a 70"dink witha bow) I for one ,Thank him for all his support of Az. wildlife. DH

    Effects of Willow Fire

Manamal, You been huntimg the Willow burn or what? I've been scouting for my sons Elk hunt in 6a, & his deer hunt in36c. So i havent had much time in 22 yet. It does look like it's starting to green up a bit. DH
  20. I saw on another post about Quads down 4 to 7 miles on Saddle Ridge. What the heck is up with that??? I used to hunt there all the time in the 70s & 80s. Rarely ever saw anyone. Killed a few good Coues & Muleys in there. I allways loved the place. Use to be a ton of muleys in there till the Elk took over. I killed a 340" bull down Rock Creek in 1988 (only 5 tags in #22 back then) heck of a pack out!! I have'nt been in there in 10 years, I drew a Dec. WT. & was planning on scouting it out again. Down to Polles, West to Fossil. & Hardscrable, up to Twin Buttes. I knew it well at one time. Will i just be PISSED OFF or is it still worth looking at. DH

    Effects of Willow Fire

I have'nt looked at the west side yet, but I plan to as I have a tag in Dec. You can go to the Tonto Nat. Forest Web Site & pull up a really good map of it. Acres per day, perimiter, etc. DH

    36C bruisers

Hey Scotty, My 14yr. old son has a Nov. tag in 36c, We hunted it last yr. but never saw anything but small dinks. Any ideas, or thoughts on places to look would be greatly appreciated. Also with all the IA problems, it does make me kinda nervous being with him down there. Any contact ##s & names would sure ease the stress. Thanks, DH

    mexico gun permits

You can not get one you're self. & there is no deadline. You have to have a Mex. agent or outfitter do it. It's not as simple as you think, but not difficult either.
