Well Sunday November 3 started off as a beautiful day. The wife and I were getting ready to get out of the house early when she suggests I bring my bow just in case. (Gotta love that) Well we are off and on our way to Globe to ride around in the Pinals for the day. We hit Ice House Canyon Rd and no sooner begin our ascent up the hill as a coyote jumps in front of us as we were driving and I couldn't get it together and get my shot off so I decided not to try. We continue going up the mountain and don't see much but a few squirrels. Back down and over to Signal Peak side. Just where the oaks and brush gave way to the pines a huge squirrel runs across the road and I decide to grab the bow and have some fun. The wife says there is another one on her side that's closer. Well I sneak around to her side when movement catches my attention from the corner of my eye. I look down into a canyon to see a brown fur ball and can't make it out to identify it. I slowly crawl down about 25 ft. I can now see it more clearly. A coatimundi. I turn to the wife as I just realized she is still holding the camera and my range finder. With out a word she nods and knows what to do. A beautiful underhand toss down into the canyon and perfectly into my waiting hand and now I'm set. I range it at 32 yards and nock and arrow and draw back. I settle my sights on him and just before I shoot he launches forward and begins to run off. I take quick aim and let an arrow fly. My arrow pins him to the base of a pine tree and he after only seconds wrestles free. I nock another arrow and look back to see where this pursuit is going to go and he climbs the same pine tree he was just pinned to. My arrow still through him he climbs to the top and is trying to grab my arrow and pull it out of him. I aim again and he presents a perfect shot and I let it rip. He screams and falls 30 feet to the ground and is dead only seconds later. After a quick scramble and excitement of actually getting my first bow kill I settle down and call a few people and am told I should get him mounted. Well after a make shift measurement and a rough weight he comes in at 50" long tip of snout to tip of tail and weighs 20 lbs. Judge for yourself and let me know if he is mount worthy as for the moment he is wrapped in news paper and plastic and in my freezer. Here is a pic my lovely wife took. The bow is a HOYT Charger 34.5" from outside edges of cams for rough size estimations.

Yeah i have never seen one before and this was pure luck that i got him but it still feels awesome. I am amazed at how many people have no idea what one even is
-
Yeah he was pretty HOYT that's for sure. Wanting to mount him but not @ the $1000.00 cost

I have shot Scott's, truball, and trufire. I was using the truball beast and liked it but switched to a trufire hardcore max and liked it the best. I then switched to carter and now shoot a stan and have no intentions on changing any time soon.

Anyone else getting itchy for aug 23rd??
Maverick351 replied to Bitter24's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I am aware and will be careful. I have always been an ethical hunter and don't plan on changing that just because of a bow or the state i hunt in. I work in the hunting and archery industry and hear many stories and have read many more on animals killed and recovered and upon inspection findings many old wounds from bad shot placement -

My first time with a bow and my first ever Az hunt so I'm very excited. -
Is there a website to look up these designs for decals?
-
Thank you to all of you.
-
Wooohoooo. Got it. I start Monday and look forward to meeting many of you and providing the great service archery hq is known for
-
Thank you. I found out Randy (also my name) is from around Globe. I was living there for awhile as my wife had family there. It's amazing to see how many people you may have ran into before and never known about.
-
Yes it is. I've applied and interviewed. I didn't know much about archery hq before my interview but i am very impressed. Well please wish me luck as this would be an incredible opportunity for me.

Dang I'd have liked to know if anything for units 22/24b was in that box
-
Looking for a paper map of units 22/24b
-
Where is the best place for maps of hunting units that show water and terrain like topo( hill tops and ravines) and such as well as roads or access points
-
Looking for a used one for archery
-
Part of my problem is work schedule. I won't have much free time in Dec/Jan so Aug is best for me and being as i have one day off a week the closer units work best

Can anyone offer some help to a new bow hunter going for either coues or muleys for my first time ever?
-
Ok i know the hunting part is hard and not like back east(I'm from Idaho) and used to blinds and spot and stalk/glassing but i haven't seen anything but old sign.
-
Well I will be ethical about it as I do respect my limits and I am practicing daily. I am comfortable with my shooting ability Its the finding deer I am having a problem with. I have been scouting several times and start early way before sunrise and usually staying till after 6pm. I have looked in the Bulldog canyon area around the watertank and the cattle pond as well as around Fish Creek Hill around the ADOT yard. I have seen some sign but it is usually old. I havent seen a single deer in my 6 times out. I am happy to shoot either a coues or a muley and am in it for the meat not a trophy. I just dont know any good spots to start off at and search around. It seems everywhere I think would be promising I come up with zilch. I do have a blind and would like to sit water but can also spot and stalk if needed. Thanks for any advice

Not part of Leo or g/f just looking to buy even a small elk or muley shed. Looking more for the fatter parts than the shed pointsor possibly a piece of a broken shed. I'm looking to make scales for a knife out of it. Let me know.
