Thumb-trigger Release Aids for Hunting
Maverick351 replied to forepaw's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
I personally use one but only because I suffer from target panic. Almost daily do I have people come to the shop asking about them. Most everyone thinks they are a cure all. Reallity is every release should be shot with back tension and I'd venture to say most archers do not shoot the release they have properly. In the two years I've worked at the shop I could count on one hand the people I've encountered that use a wrist strap release the right way. When you are at full draw your finger should wrap around the trigger having the crease of your first knuckle laying across the front of the trigger. Then once gentle pressure is applied you should be pulling through the shot using back tension. Doing this not only properly releases the trigger but increases accuracy because the shot becomes a natural surprise allowing you to simply focus on the target not looking at it and waiting till your pin is close then slapping or punching the trigger. That is the reason why some people are not as accurate at longer distances. Punching a trigger does the same thing in archery it does with rifles yet everyone knows not to do it on a gun. -
Vortex Razor HD 12x50 vs Vortex Kiabab 15x56
Maverick351 replied to couesfreak23's topic in Optics and tripods
Honestly I'm fortunate enough to be able to have had BOTH on tripods in the field (not a parking lot) for comparison. Since that day I've recommended the razor over anything else. I personally will be buying them at tax time. -

Ill take it if it falls through. My kids have been asking for az deer videos since they have only seen the eastern white tail ones -
Vortex Razor HD 12x50 vs Vortex Kiabab 15x56
Maverick351 replied to couesfreak23's topic in Optics and tripods
My personal opinion is the 12x50 razor hands down. You lose very little magnification but you gain clarity and a lightweight more compact bino -
Like I said, I accept I'm in the minority here but I appreciate a nice muley as much as a coues. I am always excited to see western deer and especially Az deer. A mix would be awesome for me. My co-worker just returned from the largest archery convention the ATA and said there was nothing for western hunting and all focused on eastern white tail. I've also known the sportsman expo is focused on out of state hunting as well so anything to show local support of the sport and animals we love I'd be behind.

I'm sure I'm , in the minority here but have you ever considered mule deer as well? But yes an Az calendar is a great idea

fixed blade or mechanical broad heads ?!?
Maverick351 replied to jgraffaz's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
For me it depends on what I'm hunting. Elk is the only animal I hunt that I'd use a fixed blade on. I do agree that fixed bladed never fail. However with the speed today's bows are shooting getting the accuracy out of a fixed blade at longer distances can be tough. Most mechanical heads work exceptionally well and accurate as they have less blade open to plane at high speeds. I shoot Ulmer Edge and Shuttle T and Wac em heads. I have heard many good things about the Rage Hypodermic heads. I test my broadheads at 100yards and VERY FEW fly tru at fast speeds and that distance but the ones I've chosen workwwell for me and my set up. -
Has anyone had to send anything in for warranty repair? How long did it take to get your stuff back?
-
I read online the 4-6 weeks and I know thats what they say but usually guys who send stuff in dont wind up waiting the full time so figured I'd ask
-
Holy cow. Wish I could help bro. Best of luck finding him. He's a giant

I have this head on my vanguard carbon fiber tripod and I am not happy with it. It doesn't seem as smooth as I've read in reviews. Just curious what others have experienced with this head and what other head people like under $100
-
Seems odd I know but, I don't know exactly what I want. I have the stock head from my vanguard its a p111v I think. I'm not a fan just doesn't suit me. What do you have for sale?
-
Yes however if you practice at long distance it help to maintain form and techniques because the distance will amplify any mistakes you make. Practicing at 20yards does very little because mistakes in form, technique and execution can be flawed and still hit a relatively good shot.

*little update on ALPS backpackdone deal pack ordered. :)
Maverick351 replied to hoghntr's topic in Classified Ads
I personally use the horn hunter full curl and I am blowns away with the quality and comfort of this pack. I have loaded my 12 yr old 110 lb son and my 5yr old 65lbs daughter in it st the same time and taken them for a piggy back ride in it. It was completely comfortable other than the fact that's a lot of weight. -
Is the roads on the Pinals still open with the snow or has it been closed?
-
Nice job

Call it what you like but I wouldn't call him my buddy but I would call him in and reportIit. G+F will monitor this and catch him. Maybe I'm wrong but in my opinion knowing he's doing this illegally and not reporting it is just as bad as joining him in poaching.

that is a heck of a buck to have to pass on

So I am typically more of a spot and stalk guy. I'll be hunting unit 24a and 24b. Hopefully up in the Pinal mountain area or outside of Superior. I have a fully capable 4x4 so no worries there. My main concern is how is the hunting going to be in the snow? I cannot imagine it being very quiet trying to put on a stalk. It is my daughter's birthday coming up and I wanted to be able to take her out on a hunt as that is all she has asked for even though my wife and I will be the only ones hunting. Do you guys have any suggestions for me that may help? I am NOT looking for secret spots to go to just curious on what would be the best plan of attack for this.
-
thank you very much for the input I apologize I'm new to hunting in snow since it usually doesn't happen here in Arizona
-
Ok I have the water proof boots and gear to keep warm covered. With the rut going on right now do the deer act differently because of the snow? I'm aware of how they act because of the rut but not the snow.

Thank you Archery Headquarters
