couesarcher, nice reply and explanation. Nicely stated and at least you guys are communicating what transpired, wether it was right or not.... I was also sitting a tank on Saturday and a truck pulled up, 2 hunters got out in 1/2 camo and half jeans. 3 does were at the tank and they then went back to the truck and grabbed their bows (my partner saw this from the hillside). Then I heard them using the grunt tube. I slowly stood up and "waved" and they departed. If only it was always that easy. Our vehicle was parked 100 yards from the tank and was clearly visible. It comes down to education and hunting courtesy. Hang in there your day will come!

I to have the G & F water tank book. I found it on ebay, used for 10.00 . Keep your eyes open, you may find a used copy. I know that cattle and deer do feed side by side, but get away from the cattle. The influence of the cattle can change patterns and watering times. Good luck, you've paid your dues on time spent on the stand, it's time you start seeing some bucks. This weekend was again extremely warm, and I saw NO rutting activity, Does chasing Does. Hmmm Hang tough and it only takes one arrow. AzP&Y

Congrats on a really nice buck- and way to stay with it after the 2 warning shots I like stories with adversity which is overcome by perserverance! Glad some other hunters helped you out and offered assistance! That is the time when you need it the most (and it's most appreciated). AzPope and Young

Oklahoma coming to hunt in January
AZP&Y replied to okie boy's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Okie, Of ALL the forums out there this one is the best! There is honest good feedback and as with any forum, occassional sparring and good fun! In PEDERSON's Bowhunting issues dated Jan/Feb 2006 it has an article titled "JAVELINA WINTER FUN" It's a good introduction to hunting out west and what you can expect , along with a mandatory gear list. It could help make your trip a success and much more pleasant. The desert can be big change for some folks. The only thing the article was a bit misleading was the Jan weather, which CAN be nice, but can also be cold, wet and windy *just not this year so fAr! If your brother lives in Tucson, you're less than an hour from some of the best pig hunting around. Good Luck -Arizona Pope & Young -
EXCELLENT BUCK! 2.5 miles in the dark with the GPS deserves some cold cerveza! Glad the Supers are still producing some nice deer! Nice Job! AZP&Y

Just joined in the forum tonight...Although I've been reading for quite some time. Some really nice folks with some honest information and feedback. I've been fortunate to draw 5 elk tags in the past 5 years (4 cow and 1 bull) and lucky enough to harvest 2 elk in the past 2 years, including a pope and young 5x6 bull last September. This year I've dedicated some quality hunting time to area 33. Coming from Chandler I wanted to concentrate on access points from the Oracle side of Area 33. AZ G &F states the normal access points with some of the expected types of terrain. With the Arizona Trail running through the Santa Catalinas, I was considering walking the trail, and hunting the ridges? Any ideas if that would be a viable strategy? Incorporating Glassing etc, with spot and stalk methods. The trail starts off of the Mt. Lemmon control road, and the trail traverses near camp bonito, apache peak and continues on the Oracle Ridge to Dan Saddle. Also is there any snow above 8000ft , I would image that Mt. Lemmon has received a minimal amount of snow. Truely appreciate any information and respect your time and advice.

The Christmas Story
AZP&Y replied to DesertBull's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Merry Christmas! & Peace on earth (along with a banner 2006 hunt season) -
Truely amazing hunt story of the great Southwest. How things have evolved in the year 2005. Banditos, drugs and guns! Arizona Game & Fish should give you guys a bonus point for helping out the rugged mountain drug operation. Nice job giving up hunt time and probably saving them lots of man power and hours to move all 250lbs... I like how you eluded to the idea that you it may be the "last hunt for a while" overthere due to all of the complications regarding crossings. I mean your hunting , doing a recreational AMERICAN activity and next thing you know, you're assisting border patrol. Truely commendable. I'll never forget hiking the Arizona Trail from the US/MEXICO border, through the Huachuca Mountains this last March (05).. It made your story all the more vivid ! Excellent photography and SUPER NICE BUCKS! AZP&Y

Yes, I agree the Archery buck is keeping me extremely motivated!

Super Nice Deer & for all of us ARIZONA NATIVES- We support hunters statewide! "Civilized life has altogether grown too tame, and, if it is to be stable, it must provide a harmless outlets for the impulses which our remote ancestors satisfied in hunting" Great Job- cherish the feeling!

Neat finds while roaming the hills
AZP&Y replied to GRONG's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Some of the items in the past 4 seasons: Bushnell Buckmaster 500yard rangefinder (still working) ..just needed to be cleaned up. Old part on a steel trap - some long time mountain trapper? Vintage arrows from archers either on the ground or in trees. Most recently while deer hunting in area 10 , I looked down at the ground and there catching the light just so subtly was an old indian ARROW HEAD. It's in real nice condition and has the notches that make it truely a distict piece to find. I sometimes wondering why I'm always looking at the ground on a hunt (besides to find animal sign)..but there are definetely some neat items to be found in the Arizona backcountry.
