  2. Finally took 5 days to complete another section of the Arizona trail in Northern Arizona last week. A fantastic time to be in the high country of Arizona! This section of trail starts just past the junction at Happy Jack on State Route 87 and ends up just south of Mormon Lake. The first night we camped at the trail head and were awoken in the morning by the cackling of Merriams. Then off trekking for the next 4 days , running into almost 50 elk. The trail runs through the heart of 5 B south. NO other encounters with another human being in the 5 days and the cell phone did not work the entire time. Coyotes yuckin it up at sunset! Here are a few pictures of the trip... Go now to the forest as I fear it's early closure in the extremely dry winter of 2006. http://www.aztrail.org/ http://www.aztrail.org/passages/pass_29.html AzP&Y Doug

  4. Ok - Now we all saw this in the 2006-2007 Hunt Regs!!! Spread the word - it's the real deal- ! AzP&Y Doug
  5. Yes, Amanda ? I?ve done sections 1, 27, 28 and 29 totaling about 90-100 miles of the trail , I?m one eighth of the way done! Section #1-Huachucas (mexico border) to Parker Canyon Lake Section 27 ? Pine to the Mogillon Rim Section 28- Mogillon Rim to Blue Ridge Section 29- Highway 87 to just south of Mormon Lake. Each one is very diverse and has offered it?s own unique challenges. I?ve seen an abundance of wildlife on every section and it goes through some incredible echo systems and climate zones. It?s a great way to explore Arizona and something that is free, after you buy all of the gear. Another great feature of the trail is that you can download it into the GPS and it will tell you when you are off course, but most sections are pretty well marked. A few more pictures from the trail! Flagstaff 4398 ? I?ll take you up on that offer! AzP&Y

    Best broadhead for deer

Muzzy 3 blade 100 grain fixed blade for ELK! Muzzy 4 blade 100grain fixed blade for Deer! Great performance and as they say "Bad to the BONE" - 0 complaints! I've not thought of changing and it's nice piece of mind to have confidence in the broadhead. Lots of product on the market , started with Muzzy and still going strong. Good Luck AzP&Y Doug

  9. It's also on Page 2,14 & 64 of the 2004-2005 hunt regulations. The 2004-2005 Regs has the picture of the Coues bedded (picture on the cover). ** I won't post a picture , but take my word for it. The 2006-2007 regs will be the 3rd year in a row regarding the change, I'm sure it's going to be a better return % in the coming year (I hope). AzP&Y Doug
  10. Hmmm. Page 14 of the 2005-2006 AZ Hunt Regs in bright Green Color Band jumps out at me pretty quick. The 3 bullet points being: Defintion Antlered- erupted through the skin Deer Bag Limit: 1 per calendar year ARCHERY SPECIAL DEER REGULATION- All Archers must contact AZG&F within 10 days of harvest Sure AZG&F can DEFINETELY DO a better JOB of informing archers. The average coues hunter is pretty darn savy. (in my opinion)... But it's up to US (BOWHUNTERS) to adhere to what is a requirement = Regulation! The 2006-2007 regs will be out in a few days.. They'll be a quiz at the end AzP&Y Doug
  11. Superb mount, very nice character and extremely life-like. Nice Job - thanx for sharing the pics! AzP&Y

    Beautiful Country

Coues 7, There is good access from the Parker Canyon Lake trail, which utilizes the Arizona Trail. You can also access this from Coronado National Monument, which is the southern end of the Huachucas. Over near parker Canyon trail head you can take the foot trail up to Scotia or Sunnyside Canyon. I have attached a link regarding the trail head GPS coordinates. The trail keeps you off the Military base and is entirely on PUBLIC LAND- Coronado National Forest. When you are within the Coronado National Monument boundaries this applies: "hunting is not permitted within the Memorial, nor are firearms unless securely stored to prevent their use. " If you are up in the mountains chances are you will see traffic and also tons of discarded clothing and plastic bottles etc. Oh and yes there are some sweet bucks in them hills. Also enough Gould's turkey to make your head spin. (southern Access point below) The Crest Trail is the beginning of the AZ trail and provides foot access. CREST TRAIL: 5.3 miles one way to Miller Peak; Elevations: 6575 feet to 9456 feet at Miller Peak. The trailhead is across the road at the northeast end of the Montezuma Pass parking area. The trail climbs for 2 miles to the northwestern boundary of the Memorial. There it enters Coronado National Forest and continues along the crest of the Huachuca Mountains to the turnoff for Miller Peak, the highest peak in the Huachucas. The trail passes through an area that once saw much turn-of-the-century mining activity. Arizona Trail - Huachuca Mountains http://www.aztrail.org/passages/pass_01.html Enjoy be careful and it's worth the walk up there. AzP&Y ** Here's a pic shot from Miller Peak at 9,400 - lookin' south into old Mexico! ** Second picture is of an old fire on the north side of the mountain range..

    New Toy

Young Hunter, Nice hardware, but may I suggest a book that I consider?required reading? for ANYONE planning a journey into Bear Country. After my 11 trips to some of the most remote and incredible GRIZZ country around, I?ve learned ?avoidance? is the key. Sure bring the cannon for extra protection, but the fundamentals of working, camping, hiking in bear country require a special sense of awareness, which you will feel immediately upon your arrival to the last frontier. The book is Stephen Herreros? (author) ? Bear Attacks their Cause and Avoidance. The 16.95 is worth more than any hardware or monster bullets. Good luck with your summer job and I envy your fly rod being bent over at the cork by champion Rainbows, Sockeyes, Silvers and probably a Pike or 2. Be safe and Nose to the wind? It?s all about thinking like a bear! . http://www.outdoorsdirectory.com/products/bear_attacks.html AzP&Y

    ARIZONA RESIDENT HUNTER ALERT

If that happened Arizona would have to roll up the carpet on hunting? ?NO THAT?S CALIFORNIA!!!!!!! Elk Elk hunting is restricted to residents only. There are 3 Roosevelt Elk hunts, 1 Rocky Mountain Elk hunt, and 5 Tule Elk hunts. There is a quota of 100 tags statewide divided between those different hunts. Auction Tags - There are also Auction Elk Tags available, that may be purchased by anyone. There are 3 Tule Elk tags available, in the Grizzly Island and Owens Valley Units this year. Antelope The regular Antelope drawing is restricted to residents only. 99% of the population is in the northeastern part of the state. The outlook for this year is pretty good. It has been improving slowly but steadily since the 1992-93 winter die-off. Some real trophy bucks are taken every year. There are also some special Auction Antelope Tags (vary in number) that are sold through non-profit organizations like the Mule Deer Foundation, FNAWS, etc. at convention banquets, dinners, etc. Anyone can buy these tags, and they allow you to hunt anywhere in the state, plus, the season starts the week before the regular residents-only season. Pick up a bow and come over and hunt the most incredible place on the planet. AzP&Y

Bummer if the Archery changes go through... Late August is a fun time to be in the woods and pushin it towards SEPT 1 & the Labor day weekend warriors is a not welcomed idea.... Baiting

Boy, I've been on the Arizona Trail the past 5 days pushing 32 miles and coming out of Mormon Lake in a Snowstorm on wednesday afternoon.... Guess the BLIZZARD arrived early??.. I hunted with Broken Arrow this January 2006 *(getting back to the thread). HE DOESN"T NEED FEEDERS OR CORN OR ANYTHING ELSE TO LOCATE JAVELINA. We were into them within an hour of daylight, on a tight ridge. He spotted them with the precision of a sniper. Way impressive!!! I know that Azhuntnut (dave) has also hunted with BrKArw, his comments are stated earlier in the post. Scottyboy, if it wasn't for you & "yer fellers" I wouldn't hunt the border zone. But just your presence down there is and always will be needed. AzP&Y Doug
