    Any Lion Hunters?

I called AzG&F prior to my long 3 day weekend. AZ lion season is still open until 6/30/2007. Then it will close, July , Aug and reopen Sept 01, 2007. Starting NEXT YEAR (2008). The season will close on 5/31/2008 and then start again Sept 01, 2008 (giving them 3 months ) to have their kittens. I didn't feel it was clear when I read about the changes, so I called and spoke to them directly. Feel free if you are still unsure.. AzP&Y

    Can you say OUCH!!

The US consumes 25% of the worlds oil production yet represents 5% of the worlds population. Oil Companies LOVE this and will capitalize on this until the end ... Oil is a finite resource. I spent the last month in India and they along with China are more hungry for oil than ever. But still this is the "norm" - 6, 8, 10, 12 people in every car! Of course each of those countries has a population of more than a billion people, so the need to fill that request is greater than ever! The car you see below , is a 1.1 litre Hyundai. http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/ene_oil_...oil-consumption AzP&Y

  6. Tourists bring $150 million a year "If you have a fence that runs several miles long, if you are a tortoise or any animal that can't fly over or go through it, then you have a pretty long distance that you have to go to get water," said Brown, an outreach manager at the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge, 225 miles south of San Antonio. Also, "any destruction of any brush is very damaging." In addition, some worry that the barrier — described in some plans as triple-layer metal fencing — will damage the tourism industry along the Rio Grande. The wild cats, reptiles and at least 500 species of birds attract visitors from around the world who bring the impoverished region $150 million a year. Depending on how far inland the fence is built, it could create a no man's land north of the river, hurting tourism Wow... I'm not sure the above statement even begins to justify the cost spent by US tax payers for uninsured motorists, Incarceration of illegal immigrants, health care to illegal immigrants. The Fence is coming regardless of who wants to oppose it... AzP&Y

    Tree Stands or Ground Blinds?

Ground blinds... Ok I know it's WAY busy and should definetely blend in a bit better, but you'd be surprised what you can get away with elk, deer seem a bit more 'perceptive'. Build a nice blind one season. Let mother nature take it's course (weather, wind , rain) and come back the next season with a bit of tweaking and it can be fantastic... AzP&Y

    Hiking gear

For a sleeping system, I'm using the Thermarest Prolite 3 and The Featherlight Go-lite 40 degree sleeping bag. The pad weighs I believe 1.5 lbs and the sleeping bag is 1lb 10 ozs. The pad compacts to the size of Naglene water bottle. With a light weight tarp or TYVEK (tarp material underneath it's plety of insulation and comfort for 3 season hunt/scout and camping. Every pound makes a difference when pushing the elevations and climate that Arizona has to offer. Also I may suggest the MSR pocket rocket - iso butane stove and MSR titanium kettle. The stove "nests" in the kettle and also allows you to put a cannister of fuel in the kettle. It all weighs less than a pound and boils water in 3.5 minutes. I log over a 100 miles of trail every year, so when I get back to my computer at home I'll send you a field test of items, weight and my reviews of what works and what doesn't. Ultralight is the way to go, the packs and gear of YESTERYEAR are a thing of the past... AzP&Y

    North Kaibab deer

Dogman68, Interesting words for sure, I didn't draw archery elk for the first time in 6 years and was thinking of putting all of my hunt time into an archery "north kaibab" hunt. In the end I wonder if 10 straight hunting days up there is the way to go? All my mind can tell me is "go" to the north kaibab. More than harvesting a deer, would be the 'hunt experience'... AzP&Y

    Light Poundage setups???

Elpep25, Equally if not more important will be shot placement .... If she hits an elk, deer etc in the wrong area it could be a long day of tracking. Here is a fantastic guide to the vitals and where they are located. That way you can be doing high 5's instead of 10 hours' of tracking - only to be let down in the end... http://www.bowsite2.com/nbefstore/product1...;Product_ID=174 Good Luck- AzP&Y
