Got a weekday off on Friday and decided to see how much snow is really on the mountain??. Well first chair ride up and my question was quickly answered. With some previous meager winter ski seasons- The Arizona Snowbowl is off to a great start. With minimal wind and the sun shining brightly, it was time to test out the bowl. First run down with the clear, crisp air was a rush of adrenalyn. Some quick turns and the legs were soon feeling the burn. Then a stop to regain my breath and look back up Arizona's highest peak. A side route through the trees and back onto Lower bowl run and the stretch to Agassiz Lodge. A quick break for a hot bowl of chili, a frosty Sierra Nevada and another run down Ridge run, over the moguls on Blackjack and quick look at the clock at the bottom of the lift - 3:30pm - always time for one more run before the lifts close at 4pm A nice drive through Oak Creek canyon made for an awesome end to a great AZ WINTER WEEKEND! If you are a backcountry skier/snowboarder- A permit is required for access and can be obtained at Agassiz Lodge. http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coconino/passes/index.shtml#bc Happy Holidays! AzP&Y Doug

Casey, Thanks for sharing your hunt experience. I know that things don't always go as planned, but sure had to be a treat to be hunting with a coues legend. Congrats to you and your dad and hope to meet you in person down the road. Happy Holidays. AzP&Y Doug PS - Any news from the R . Rabbit on how he did?

Just thinning out some of the antlers in the garage. Going to be moving soon, so just trying to make some more space. 25/06 as far as $$$, I know they aren't the biggest coues sheds, but there are a couple of nice ones. Just want them to go to someone who appreciates these fine deer as much as myself. I started the bidding at $9.99 - not sure where it will go from there ? Thanks for your inquiry and if you would like a more detailed picture of a particular antler would be happy to post that for you as well.... AzP&Y Doug

AZP&Y replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Scott- You bet - I'm confirmed for Alaska July 02-12th 2008 - SO I BETTER get some flies tied! Thank you so much for sending them down when the season closes. I'll get you my address and send that to you. I'll take some pics of the flies and send you some because you are in some of the most pristine trout fishing country in the world! Summertime in Montana! Hope you are enjoying the job and Happy Holidays to you and your family. Awesome birds by the way. Always enjoy the pictures, they along with the story make for fantastic reading. I thought about you this last weekend, when I was helping a friend try and get his coues! MEARNS everywhere! Doug AzP&Y -
We didn't have bowhunters in our unit last weekend, but MEARNS hunters blasting every chance they got. BOOM BOOM BOOM. Whoopin it up carrying on... Time to move to the next canyon. Congrats on your wife tagging out.. AzP&Y

Nice find for sure. Looks like there is some overlap in that unit. If there are does- bucks are sure not to be far off... AzP&Y

Hey Casey- I agree I think he was an old heavy horned buck. I'll be down there next week to check out the one down below that made all of the racket and see what is left down there. My buddy has the 34a Dec hunt so we're going to be there to hunt and I'm going to see what may be left from that lion/deer exchange...In a way I hope the deer scrambled loose... but it's always nice to find a coues rack. I may walk 100 more miles and not find a coues rack like the one I found in Feb of this year. But that's what makes it a great experience and spending time in the desert... Good luck in 36b and with a little more than a week , you must be off the hook excited! AzP&Y Doug

Duane Adams Book? Picture for your time
AZP&Y replied to 300 ultra mag's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Colorado Ultra Mag, I think if you are into reading good books about coues there are 3 that are Mandatory. I'm going to throw you a picture since you like that format. You've posted some good questions so keep up the good work and you are on the right trail. I think you need to get that 40lb pack down to 30, but that is a different story 1)How to Hunt Coues Deer - Duwane Adams & Tony! 2)Coues white tailed deer- An annotated bibliography- Richard Ockenfels (You can buy this book through Arizona game and fish department) 3)Deer of the Southwest - Jim Heffelinger (az game and fish biologist) ** Went to jim's talk at bass pro shops and it was OUTSTANDING! I search for any book on coues and there aren't that many these days, but more to come , I'm sure! AzP&Y Doug -
Wildlife Conservation License Plate
AZP&Y replied to curmudgen's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Curmudge, Yep they are for real... I've been sporting the plate for a couple of years. I especially like the involvement with az ELK AND az FLYCASTERS. I can't say for sure that every $$$ goes exactly where it is supposed to but like the plate says "CONSERVING WILDLIFE" You'll probably get a few hand waves on the road from fellow 'sportsman' and besides it's a cool plate. Good Luck - AzP&Y -
HBU, Congrats! The book will be going out right away! Enjoy! I will be listing a 3rd edition copy , signed by the authors soon! I'll post it on here as well! Thanks for your business! AzP&Y

Hey Amanda, Yes, I broke down and bought a rifle from Ron. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. I had mentioned to him that I saw his donations through CWT. He brought me over to the scope and range finder to show me first hand what is at stake for the contest I'm not sure if he was the cheapest in the valley, but the rifle I bought had a sale tag and he then took another $25.00 off that price. He also has MANY MANY rifles and tons of accessories in addition to a professional gunsmith on-site. I opted for the Tikka T3-lite (synthetic) in the 30/06 caliber. Almost bought the .270 but feel really good about the choice. I put a Leupold scope put on it and they lazer bore sited the rifle at no additional cost. Going with Red Rabbits' recommendation for shells and I'll tell you how it shoots this Saturday I don't have a coues tag, but I know where a couple of LIONS could be in trouble AzP&Y
