I have the velbon sherpa. I believe that Amanda has some tripod options avail in the coues store... Another option would be to use the search option on the site and there have been some good suggestions over the years. There are some nice carbon fiber tripods on the market as well. It's nice to have a fluid, lite and strurdy tri-pod for glassing. Good luck and hope you glass up a TOAD! AzP&Y

CooCoo, I've had a pair for a couple of years and they are my first and only pair of coues glasses. I've enjoyed every hour I've spent behind them. They are not swaro of course but are for the money some of the better optics on the market in that power range. I hope that you have a nice tripod to compliment them because they require it for glassing. They also took a tumble last August on my archery coues hunt and Nikon no fault warranty had them back in my hands in 17 days and 20.00 to fix the shattered bino tube. I glassed up my buck at 244 yards in October and put him down with one shot. Would have never seen that buck if it weren't for the Monarch's. I think they do really well when you use them as a digiscope. Try taking digital pics through the eye-piece. I've had decent success... Good luck glassing and I think in the end you'll be pleased! New to website, hunting 33/37B in January with son
AZP&Y replied to CAelknuts's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Caelknuts, Here is a pic of the only motel I know if Oracle. It's mini a-frames. Real primitive, here. No concierge or turndown service available. From there you have about a 30 minute drive in any direction to get into pig country. You can camp in Peppersauce campground (like $12.00 a night) or just keep driving to the surrounding forest service and plop down for free. As Redman stated in his post, he was correct - I wacked my pig on 1/7-2008 it was blowing 30 mph and rained for 2 days. I drove home soaked to the bone and smiling with all tags filled. As far as calling, we have a running joke with our Javelina crew, every time we've blown the J-13 (famous javy call) - they've gone running in the opposite direction- away. Maybe I'm just not doing it right, but calling can be VERY effective, but each pig responds in it's own way. Bring the call, but just don't expect em' to come in on a string It's a great hunt and an awesome time to be in the hills! AzP&Y -
Looks like some nice coues & cat country to me! Whacken em' out of the bed- nice shot! Thanks for sharing the hunt pics! congrats Dan - very nice coues deer! AzP&Y

The rut may be going a little stronger the second week , but for pigs it really won't matter. If it's cold and nasty they'll probably be hunkered down so hope for some better weather and a bit of sunshine for javy. That unit has plenty of pigs and I just came off the Oct hunt for coues. We will be down there in January chasin em' again. It's all about glassing that big coues country! Get the tripod and binos and you should be good to go! There are some whopper pigs in that unit- This guy is from last January {2008}! Good Luck! AzP&Y -
Scott, Congrats! That's a real nice coues deer for sure! Glad you got to spend some time in the hills with your dad and the scouting paid off! AzP&Y Doug

Nikon Monarch ATB Binocular replacement parts
AZP&Y replied to swishjth's topic in Optics and tripods
Swishjth, I have the 12x56's Nikon Monarchs and they took a tumble off the tripod summer 2007. I sent them in and within 17 days they were back in my hands. I wouldn't hesitate to send them in, just write a letter explaining you have a javelina hunt Jan 01 or something and I'll bet you will have them in no time. Sorry, couldn't begin to tell you who has parts etc. for Binos , but generally the hunt/sport shops will suggest the manufacturer do the work. Best of luck... AzP&Y -
GAME ON! Gotta love that hunt! AzP&Y

Nice shot Casey- yes, the lifesize is cool - but expensive for sure! Looks like some good Arizona country! Water holes off the map are the best! AzP&Y Doug
