Governor hearing a sales pitch for HB2072 today
AZ402 replied to audsley's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Sorry it will not format here as it was sent out in Word but, Here is the memo from Hamberlin: Memorandum To: Arizona Sportsmen and Conservation Organization Board of Directors FROM: Alan Hamberlin, Chairman AZSFW RE: Response to Organization Concerns about HB 2072 DATE: February 29, 2010 In our continuing effort to communicate with sportsmen and conservation organizations, we wanted to bring you up to date on the status of HB 2072. Earlier today we met with representatives from the Governor’s office and two of the five commissioners primarily to see if there is an opportunity for continuing dialogue on the bill. We agreed to continue to communicate with them as we progress to let them know what changes we are making to the bill. We appreciate the responses and feedback that we have received relative to the introduced version of the bill and our responses to those concerns are listed below. It is our desire to solicit any additional concerns you may have. We respectfully request that this memo be disseminated to all members of your respective Boards of Directors asking them to identify additional issues that they may have. We will seriously evaluate and respond to any legitimate concerns. There are at least four items that we agree to modify in response to concerns and issues that have been raised thus far as follows: 1. The original bill had no cap on administrative fees; we will cap those fees at 10% 2. While the original bill had a reporting requirement for the qualifying organization to adopt a Board resolution and submit it to the Arizona Game and Fish Department specifying the amount of proceeds received from the sale of tags from the auction and raffle and sold at the EXPO and Banquets and the costs associated with same and the monies paid for each of the six purposes listed in the bill and the cost of administration. We will add a new provision requiring an annual outside independent audit of the proceeds received from tag sales and the expenditure of those proceeds by a certified public accountant. 3. We have been asked to cap the number of tags that will be available as a result of the legislation in the future to 350 tags. We agree to cap the number of tags at 350. 4. Concern has been raised by some that none of the monies flow directly back to the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD). We are willing to negotiate with Game and Fish and are prepared to offer them up to 30% of the net proceeds to augment their hunter recruitment program if they support the legislation. Please communicate any additional concerns to Suzanne Gilstrap at 602-390-4518 or preferably communicate via email to suzanne@capitolconsultingaz.com . Wow!......... -
Thanks Phil and Doug! Staring 40 right in the face after today, yikes. Doug, my GSP is 15 years old and is on borrowed time. I pick up a Draghtarr female last year, she's doing pretty good so far.

I lifted this response from a NR friend of mine on another board. I thought his response to this topic was pretty well put. "If past history is any indicator, the closed door meetings are a way to buy silence from the other groups. A way to bribe them by saying, "If you support us, we will let you have a turkey tag or a pig tag, and you could get some of the money. If you really demand, we might even throw you the bone of an elk tag in a washed out unit." AZ guys better get on this, or your G&F Commission will become the puppet of some people with a track record that is not too favorable to the rank and file hunter. AZ hunters and the conservation groups have done huge amounts of work, made great sacrifices, and paid dearly in terms of opportunity, to build your herds to the quality that they are at. Now, some "Johnny Come Lately" shows up with his hand out, and is asking to be put at the front of the line and be able to monetize the hard work you guys have put into this. We need to post direct links of who we contact to put pressure on in AZ".

AZ402 replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Outstanding buck! One of the best trophies I've seen this year, regardless of species!! -
Great job Jack, beauty of a rifle........
-
Nice buck man, good looking mount....

My first coues and my first animal with a Muzzy. I was by myself and didn't take a ton of field photo's, but here are a few.
-
Muleys were the 1st option for sure. I did tell myself if a good opportunity at a respectable coues presented itself, most likely I would make a run at him. This guy may make a good archery target in January.

Any one els heading down for the 35a.b muzzy hunt?

I'll be down there as well............ -
Nice buck Allen, congrats!!

I haven't read one word in this thread nor will I. I have however talked with people from both parties involved today. They have both requested that this thread be deleted. I don't know either of hunters personally and I wasn't there. But both sides said the hearsay and accusations are way out of line. It's Amanda's site and she can do as she pleases and I respect that. I'm just honoring a request from both parties to remove this from the www were it doesn't belong. Stan
