Sportsmans Input Sought by ConserveandProtectAZ.org-Unit wide Raffle and Auction Tags
bonecollector777 replied to Jay Scott's topic in The Campfire
As I understood it, there are two pools of money at hand. Pool 1 would be generated by the auction/raffle tags tags or ??? and GnF would receive 100% of that and it should be earmarked for education. As stated before, G&F has to follow guidelines as to what they can put out on billboards and the like. It would be interesting to see how restrictive these guidelines are because it's going to be hard to "educate" people with your hands tied when you are really trying to fight a group with very deep pockets that can and will say anything to further their agenda. Pool 2 would be used/controlled by C&P and could be used for political activities. Unless I missed it, the funding for this pool was only mentioned briefly in a response to a question asked by an attendee and it sounded like it would consist of primarily donations. I would like to know what if anything the donors are asking for or have been offered by C&P? Personally I'm leaning toward the dollar or two added to licenses and then maybe another dollar to application or tag fees as a way to fund the "education" portion. I would also like to hear more from G&F regarding the necessity of this funding. Do they feel they need to generate 2M annually? I know it's being treated as "preventative maintenance" at this point and I think it's an issue that should be addressed, and soon. The pool 2 you speak of HAS to come from donations only. No money from any tag or stamp or license can go to "pool 2". Therefore the tags being auctioned are not needed. The $5 stamp will raise their money. They have to depend on donations and raising money through raffles etc. I'm sure these rich guys would love to donate a little money to CAPAZ but only if they get the tags in return. -
I think Turkey hunting in general is just tough this year. Hardly gobbling anywhere.

I'll be there Monday. My brother said he showed up a little late tonight. Said any questioning of motives or disagreements was treated very defensively rather than looked at as trying to come up with different ideas. Said the guy that came up with the $2 habitat stamp had the board stumped like they never thought that was a possibility (or they dont want it a possibility) add a $5 stamp or license increase on all licenses and they'll have money coming out of their ears and the tags can be left alone. If they insist on the tags its obvious their one mission is the tags and only the tags. Who was your brother? The habitat stamp idea works. I will say that I don't think that everyone on C&P is in it to get more tags to rich people, but I do believe the rich people have them persuaded. The question asked if I opposed the current raffle / auction model, I don't know that I have ever considered it because it has always existed in my memory. After some thought my question is this, where does it stop? We could certainly raise more money for conservation if we auctioned every tag to the highest bidder but then our model would cease to exist. I do not believe that the integrity of the model is worth sacrificing for any mount of money. I believe there are other ways. Big guy 6'4". Assume he would have been wearing a hat and think he had his gf with him. Blonde haired girl. He showed up 20-30 minutes late and didnt know what had been asked so he didnt ask anything. I've asked the same thing about where does this stop? Has to be a goal and when its reached its gotta stop. Give them unlimited power they're never gonna stop. Like you said if were just in it for money then heck yeah auction them all off to the highest bidder but that's not the goal. I'm saying slap a $5 education stamp on the licenses and call it a day. Assuming they can prove that's what the money will be used for and not more new trucks. -

Do they give any credit to the current laws in place that made it very tough to gather signatures anyway? -

They're already not paying 250k for an auction tag. Two tags from last year and this year have been 175k and 145k for the elk. Also what do you think the price of the auction tags are gonna drop to when the rich guy can buy a unit 23 two week long elk hunt for $30k or a two week long strip tag for $40k? Why drop 300k on a year long one if I can drop 40k on a shorter one and still kill my giant buck. -

I'm not kicking anyone's head in. I'm trying to clarify if what I read was correct because it blew my mind. This things going downhill fast. It was one thing to be able to convince people with the part about this money would be used to fight HSUS and now we know it cant. How do they expect people to get on their side with an approach like this? Just getting sketchier and sketchier. And this is coming from one of the few that actually wanted to give this a chance. -

So to get it straight NONE of the money generated by the tags will actually be able to fight the political fight that they say we desperately need money to fight? All the money generated by the tags will go to the education side of things and then we just hope the rich guys donate a bunch of money to CAPAZ to be able to fight the political stuff? -
What work needs done?

What's a lawyer gonna be able to do? I'm upset they banned drones and wont let me use a rocket launcher to kill my deer. Can I sue them?
-
Just think what the price of these tags will drop to when they can buy a unit 23 two week long auction tag.

Think it was 260k and one was in the hundreds as well. I'd guess its low again this year due to no moisture.

Conserve and Protect AZ SURVEY/
bonecollector777 replied to bonecollector777's topic in The Campfire
So far that answer has been overwhelmingly (75%) leaning towards having regular citizens on the board as well. 11 have answered other and give different answers and why. Only three have suggested leaving it as is. Total of 54 responses right now. Hoping to get into the hundreds tomorrow. I'll try to clarify it a little better. with question number 4 being required to click on something in order to have your vote counted, I wont do the survey just because of that question. heres why. groups will over look the questions that are negitive to there case, but will use these answers to help there case. by manipulating it. sneaky pete and his band of merry men will come up with something like. " in recent polls we have found that xxx amount of hunters prefer to Add a few citizens without any affiliation to current wildlife organizations currently on the board. " or xxx amount of hunters prefer to use "Only current board members " polls are a dangerous tool to use if not worded directly and to the point. and they can still be skewed to benefit the group that people may not want. If seen this done many times with the AZG&F commission over the years on the fisheries side trying to get something through that normal people didnt want . but yet the group manipulated the questions and answers to mean something else. a close EX friend used MY fishing board to do the very same thing in a poll and at the G&F meetings showed the papers of said poll to show the commission that most people were in favor of it. which they werent cause of the way it was worded. not saying you did this intentionally. I see where you're coming from but I felt the option for other would offset anything people didnt like about the no and yes answers. Today it's at 83 people and still 85%+ saying we need some sort of normal citizen with a proven history of hunting. I could have worded the question better but was trying to get an idea if most people trust these 8 current people on board to make the decisions of where the money goes or if they thought a couple of outsiders maybe just two or three would help balance out any mishandling of funds or going overboard on tag numbers. -
