"Thank You!" from Hunts for Heroes, and an Invitation ...
mpriest replied to Lv2hnt's topic in The Campfire
Great program they have here. Took a first time hunter out last fall for a morning last fall. Really cool to see how quickly they learn to love this sport and be able to guide them in the right way to be successful on future hunts. My hunter was really into being out there and learn plus it got me out looking for elk on a morning I would have otherwise been staying home. I would encourage anyone who could spare any amount of time to help out. I was only available for half a day but that half day allowed my hunter to get out here and give it another try after being unsuccessful the first day of the hunt. -
Hung out with a guy who worked canyon coolers this last weekend and mentioned I just bought a couple of Rtic. A few beer later he told me that Rtics were awesome coolers and the best cooler for the price. Just my 2 cents

Rtic coolers are the best deal out there. Watching YouTube video comparisons the Rtics hold ice as long or longer than Yetis. Plus they are on sale right now which they rarely are.

Where are you located? -
I like it cut into strips add a little salt, pepper and soy sauce. Then pan fry until done

I use a Ruger Red Label in 12 ga. Love this gun because it is easy to break and shoots awesome. Also only has one trigger so you don't have to worry about switching your finger to a separate trigger for your second shot. They make 20 ga models in various barrel lengths as well if your set on a 20 ga.

Just got my elk back from this year and I have about 50 pounds of ground elk from last year still that I'm looking to clear out. I'm looking for some good recipes to make with it. If you have a good recipe post it up so I can make it. Here are a couple that I've tried so far: Italian Sausage: http://cavewomancafe.com/beef/sausage/ Chorizo: http://www.huntingnut.com/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=5637 Tried a couple chili recipes but wasn't overly impressed with them so I'll keep looking for a good one.

Im headed down for the first hunt as well with a left over tag. Got help through Sunday but would be looking for someone to camp with after that if I'm still out there. Shoot me a PM if your interested.

Here is one on my personal favorites that I make all the time. Cook up one cup of rice and a can of retried beans and add to meat for easy premade burritos. Sauté one diced onion with a dash of red pepper flakes and set aside Cook one pound ground meat seasoned with black pepper, garlic powder, salt, and chili powder. After meat is cooked add sauted onions back in and add one and a half 7 3/4 oz cans of El Pato Salsa De Tomate Con Jalepeno salsa. Let it simmer until almost all liquid is gone Serve in a tortilla with your choice of fixings or add previous listed ingredients for burritos

Where the heck is the outrage? The protests? The comments from politicians???

This event doesn't further anyone's political agenda so it just gets "swept under the rug" -
Awesome thanks for the recipes. That's what I was looking for

I threw the squirrel on low overnight
-
Made this pot pie recipient with them. I substituted the chicken for squirrel. Cooked the squirrel in a crockpot in beef broth until it fell off the bone then added it into the crockpot recipe. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/180118/slow-cooker-chicken-pot-pie-stew/

Post up a recipe

Actually made this one a couple nights ago. Tasted more like a stew than a chili. Maybe I did something wrong haha

Nice bull for that unit. Those hunts are getting harder and harder. We sent three for three last week with a couple cows and a 5X5

Bump for a good scope. Have the FFP model in MOA and love it

Didn't get picked for leftover tag...
mpriest replied to newazhunter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Has anyone received their leftover tag yet? Mine still says pending when I look at it in the Portal website and haven't seen anything in the mail yet. -
Safeway on 89 has block ice. Just don't buy it before 9 AM today because I need 9 blocks for Powell. SAMs club has the best diesel price. Used to go there but had my card number stolen twice in a years time.

After six months of waiting for parts and a scope my 6.5 Grendel build is finally done. Can't wait to stretch it out to some longer distances and see show she performs. I have a bass boat that we take to Lake Powell several times a year. It runs off two marine batteries. The main battery is wired to the 135 Mercury two stroke outboard to be charged when running. The second battery is for our trolling motor and is not connected to any charger. We usually spend 3-5 days on the water camping up lake and our trolling motor battery dies the first day leaving us with out it. Does anyone have any suggestions on a portable battery charger that will help maintain the charge? Possibly a solar one? Wiring the two together is out of the question as I don't want to drain the main battery be stuck out there. Any advice would be great.

I'll look into them. The battery I have is still good so I'll check them out when I need a replacement
-
At banks for the input guys. The inverter from Str8shot seems like the best option coupled with a second battery. We usually go up with three guys and don't really have space for a generator and extra gas for it with our camping gear. We're already packing light with the weight limit on the boat.
