7E rifle bull. Not bad considering I got a cow tag last year
-
Personally I am glad they are increasing the tags. I thought is was such a shame they reduced the tags to only 75. This is such a great opportunity to get youth hunters involved with the sport by providing them with a hunt that offers such a high probability of success. 14 years ago this was my first ever big game hunt. I picked up a left over tag because they were offering 1000 tags for the kids. I'm not saying they should offer 1000 tags still but I feel they were doing themselves a disservice by only offering 75 kids the opportunity to hunt and share in the same experiences we all do.

I know it is the end of the season for good hides but i figured for a summer project I would make my self a fleshing board and get a fleshing knife. My question for you all is what is the best way to store a hide for an extended period of time after it is all fleshed out? Should I just salt it and keep it in a cool, dry place? I don't have the best luck with hunting coyotes so there is a good chance there will be a long period of time before I get enough hides to make it worth making a drive somewhere to sell them.

Thanks for all your help. I have realized that I need to do research this topic. or now I attempt to skin them the way the the post mentioned by "THE RIFLEMAN" suggests and keep them in the freezer. The only question I have left is what do summer hides go for? With no luck lately I feel like the winter hides will be going quick with this warmer weather. Is it even worth saving them? I feel like I should do some justice turning them deer killin' goat killin machines into something useful.

My dad drew a cow tag last year on his 4thporch choice. Weird thing was the hunt he got drawn for only had 76% draw odds.

Ever wonder what big bucks are in the next canyon over? Just buy this and you will never have to walk over there to find out!

Thanks for the help. I assume rolling them up and freezing should be done after fleshing them. Also to stretch them and dry them should I do this on a sheet if plywood or build a frame?

So I got an email from AGFD on the day application were supposed to be due saying that the online system was over loaded due to there already being Two and a half times the number of applicants for elk and pronghorn as there were last year. Who knows how many more applicants submitted theirs during the extension period. I'm sure this will drop the draw success rates pretty low. Only reason I can think caused this surge of applicants is that with the online system you don't have to front the money for the tags in the form of a check. What do you guys think the outcome on draw odds will be and what might have caused the large increase in applicants?

Heard it hit 6A pigs pretty bad too prior to the hunts

Should be fine. The drug they use they also use in bears and it has been shown to be completely out of a bears body in less that 14 days. I would assume it is probably close to the same time frame for a Javalina. Would be good to call and get the date the animal was drugged to be safe.

2 1/2 Times the Number of Elk and Pronghorn Applicants
mpriest replied to mpriest's topic in Elk Hunting
It could be referring to the online system. I didn't think of it that way when I read it. Here's a quote from the email "We actually had 2 ½ times more applicants than at the same point last year" -
Pretty sweet truck. Too bad its not a 4x4

Does Hunting Harvest Affect Horn and Antler Size?

Here is another good article. I believe this is the case in the sheep population on Ram Mountain in Alberta but not sure if it would be true elsewhere http://books.google.com/books?hl=en&lr=&id=ASekxh-xVb4C&oi=fnd&pg=PA94&dq=horn+sheep+hunting+size&ots=JQuKdF0dsK&sig=X49xsjAHffqKqami7G9ozcXN-s0#v=onepage&q=horn%20sheep%20hunting%20size&f=false -
I have had this tag 6 times and filled them all. My family all togeather has had this tag over 20 times. With all the new hunts they added last year there were definitely more people in the woods which caused the elk to get pretty buggered. Also be prepared to hike ALOT! The higher up the mountain you go the more elk but be prepared for a pack out. I have never got an elk that I didn't have to hike out. I almost never see elk at the base of the mountain especially during the hunts. If your looking for an enjoyable first hunt you may want to look into another unit. Feel free to PM me if you want any additional info.

Very nice. I got mine at employee pricing too.

Ya looks way different. How do you like them? I was thinking of getting grips like that so I would not have to worry about scratching up the nice wood ones when im carrying it while im hunting.
-
We started off the season right with three tags filled in three days. My brother and dad shot their new years day and I filled my tag on the 2nd. My brothers pig is pictured first. My pig is the second picture. I didn't get a picture of my dads.

im not compleatly convinced its a coues. The tail looks like a mulie with the black on it and it doesnt look bushy enough to be a whitetail. -
