There are pro and cons for either choice. I prefer hunting alone as it gives me full accountability if....I mean...when I screw up a stalk! lol But I have to be honest, it can be down right boring not seeing another soul for several days. No so much while hunting, but back at camp. Eating alone, not being able to converse with others, share info and no camaraderie can test your sanity after a few days in the woods. When you start talking to Mr Squirrel, it's time to head into town to refresh with a shower, good meal and recharge yourself. Safety? I've never felt "unsafe", but I never put myself in a precarious position. I usually err on the side of caution. I'll take a half mile detour around a canyon to get on the other side, rather than scramble a rock face. But snapping an ankle alone can get you in trouble quick. Pack out? There are a lot of good hunters out there. Bet some one would help you out if you find yourself in a bind. If you get one down, get a good pack frame and pace yourself. It's the late hunt, so meat spoilage isn't as big a concern compared to a Sept hunt. Good luck and hope it all comes together!

2007 Elk went from 78 to 114

Sadly, in a few weeks, this will be nothing but a footnote. The Chosen One will prevail and continue his assault on traditional American values.

Awesome pictures! I'm jealous, my trailcam doesn't give me any pics like that! I need to find a spot like that!!

Awesome! Those fish are a blast to catch!

I agree. If the USFS has these rules in place, then start hiring resources to enforce them and don't rely on outside agencies. IMO, I think G&F is telling the forest service to pound sand! lol
-
In my opinion, from reading the press release, G&F is telling the USFS that their WMs aren't going to actively enforce rules that........... unreasonably reduce the opportunities for Arizonas families to fish, hunt, camp, or enjoy wildlife viewing or responsible off-highway vehicle recreation, said Kurt Davis, a member of the Arizona Game and Fish Commission.

Awesome! I can't wait to get out this weekend.

I agree. This will be a positive move.

wouldn't your licence need to be valid for the season date for the hunt you apply for? the migratory stamps I see your point.... just change the stamps date Jan 1- Dec 31....... James The migratory stamps are managed by USFWS. Doubt they'd change the dates just for AZ.
-
Along with the migratory bird stamp, the Federal Duck Stamp and the Arizona waterfowl stamp run from July 1 thru June 30. Being able to align your hunting license with those dates would eliminate having to carry 2 licenses. Theres more to Arizona besides elk, deer and turkey hunting. Anyways....just food for thought. If you feel you will forget, just continue buying it on January 1.

My May 1 example was simply just that, an example.
-
True, but at times, you'll have to carry 2 licenses just to be legal. Dove hunting is a perfect example. The HIP(migratory bird stamp) will be attached to your previous license, but the second season actually carries over into the first week on the following year. If you use my example above, purchase your license May 1, then purchase the HIP stamp. Now it will be valid on that license into the following year, thus eliminating the need to carry both licenses.

If you buy a license in October come Jan 1 you no longer have a license. Take the license draws out of the picture. If you are buying a fishing license later in the year you are only getting benefit out of the license for a few months but you pay the same price. They are trying to make it more user friendly for people and more cost effective. Some people may not even buy the license in Sep-Oct-Nov because they only get 3-4 months of benefit compared to 12 months with the new proposed system. The cost of some licenses might go up but the AZGFD is trying to make the system more user friendly and less confusing and now they don't have to go to the state legislature to make simple changes. Much better in my opinion. Exactly. More streamlined and easier for the new angler or hunter to understand. It's second nature to us, but to a new outdoorsman, it can be overwhelming. I recently helped a coworker get introduced into hunting. He was frustrated reading the regs, becoming overwhelmed at the different license choices and different fees. I helped him along, walked him through the regs and got him headed in the right direction. To recruit and retain a new hunter in a more streamlined process is a plus in my book!

It will be great to buy a 365 day license. For example, a person can purchase a license on May 1st, 2013 and apply for all three big game drawings, June(2013), October(for Spring draw 2014) and February(2014) with the same license. Having to buy next years license in October before applying for the following year's Spring draw is kinda wacky! This will be much better!

Sad to read this. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

Another reminder to be safe out there in the woods. Be sure of your target and beyond! TAB+1 http://www.azfamily.com/news/Brother-shoots-sibling-in-Arizona-hunting-accident-205686291.html

If your toilet is flushing slow and you determine it's NOT clogged, sit down and think what changed from when it was working great before you call a plumber. Long story short: One bathroom toilet suddenly was flushing slow. Guest bathroom working fine. Thinking an obstruction is the cause, I pull out the plunger and auger and go through the motions. Nothing. Pour a gallon of water in the bowl and the water drains. No clog. Then at wok, while thinking about my toilet... haha...it dawned on me what may be causing this. So I get home, remove something I did last week. BINGO!! It works. Flushing perfect! So what is it? Never use those blue deodorant tabs that go inside the tank!!!! Thats your daily tip of the day!

Awesome!!! Thanks for sharing, If your trailcams log locations....scrub the EXIF data!

It appears the grey wolf will be removed from the endangered list. Leaving individual states to manage them. Finally bringing some balance back to the ecosystem. On the flip side, this ruling will seal the fate of the Mexican wolf reintroduction. In other words, the Mexican wolf in AZ/NM is here to stay. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-wolves-20130426,0,280341.story

Well, anyone call to see if they got lucky? Highly doubt they'll pull my application, but I'm still hopeful. I assume they filled all the leftovers today. Have an alert set up on my account to send me a text if a certain check, via the check number, gets posted. I'll give it one more day.
