Glad to see the Premium hunt idea was nixed. Sending emails and/or attended the meetings proved effective in swaying the Commission.

Holy cow! Way to go! Where did this happen?

Forest closed this morning-rather stealthily done
AZ8 replied to biglakejake's topic in The Campfire
This isn't anything out of the ordinary. The forests are dry. Along with daily high winds, can't really blame them for being a little proactive. Usually happens with short notice. -
Man, that is awesome! Thanks for sharing!

Another vote for Verizon. I've had a signal in some surprising places! Good reception on the Rim also. Expensive, but reliable. My brother has AT&T and uses my phone to check in with his family when we're deep off-trail in the desert.

Nah, elk hunters are just more fanatical and have a sadistic 11th hour priority to shut down and overload servers!

Already know my results! Due to work obligations and schedule conflicts, had to go bonus point only.

That tree has been there for years. See it every time coming home from quail hunting. The hypocrisy called the USFS, lays down the gauntlet when it comes to leaving blinds, trail cams or tree stands, yet they let this eyesore remain along a major freeway without a care in the world. I emailed the Tonto National Forest a couple years ago asking them how they allow this tree to remain? Never got a response.

USFWS Proposing Endangered Status for Mexican Wolf
AZ8 replied to Outdoor Writer's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
The Items you highlighted, 14-17 is a USFWS "CYA" so to speak. Why? Because the wolves have already expanded into some of those areas. Wolves have been spotted are far west as 5A. In other words, they(USFWS) are trying to close the stable door after the horse has bolted. -
AT&T and Sprint are also included. And they're also collecting your credit card purchases! http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324299104578529112289298922.html

Not only are they listening to you.....they're also collecting everything you do on the Internet. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jun/06/us-tech-giants-nsa-data

Next to the green tree, just left of that one rock! -
any special fees for applying online with azgfd?
AZ8 replied to biglakejake's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Just wait till next Tuesday to see what happens to the servers! Lol -
Pretty cut and dry. Stage 1 restrictions limit campfires in developed campgrounds.

Frustrating to say the least. I was driving south on SR87 very early morning on Memorial Day. Just north of Clint's Well, I saw a camp a ways in with a roaring campfire! That was the only campfire I actually saw, but witnessed many "campfire smoke signals" rising above the trees throughout my drive south. People are clueless!

East Valley Gunsmith - shotgun won't cycle
AZ8 replied to kidso's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I think I got the same gun and the same problem. If its a Stevens 67 series E, this is a common problem. Google "Stevens 67 series E 12 gauge problems" and you will get a ton of discussions about this very issue. I gave up on fixing mine. Someday I'll give it to a gunsmith to fix as this gun has alot of sentimental value to me. -

Thanks to all that sacrificed for our freedoms!

And that sums up the Premium Hunt problem: pitting one hunter against another. That cow hunter has just as much right to be out in the woods as the Premium bull hunter. Do we really want to divide the hunting community like this?

Well said Kent!

Seldom Drawn, yes we did educate the public. We set road blocks on major roads to inform people of the high fire danger and be cautious, to completely put out campfires. We parked and walked through the heavy use camping sites and made person to person contact informing them of the high fire dangers and to be cautious. Most just snarled and went about their way. A lot were flat out rude and didn't care. They were ".....camping and by golly we're gonna have a campfire!...." From my experience, people just didn't care and it was all about them. Maybe the public has changed, its been many years since I've put on a pair of nomex pants. If you have access to the FLAGscanner....take a listen to the live scanners right around sundown on Memorial Day. You will hear a bunch of calls for abandoned campfires along Lake Mary Rd and points in between.

When I worked on an engine crew way back in the day, we had more new starts on that Tuesday after Memorial Day. Once everyone leaves, all their campfires are still hot! They think they're out, but it only takes a a small breeze to blow those hot embers over the fire ring. You won't believe how many campfires are left this way. It's sickening. I always told our FMO to shut down campfires before Memorial Day. His hands were tied, but I knew his frustrations.
