My first archery elk hunt was a comedy of errors. Anyways....second morning I get to my spot at around 4am as I had a long trek to get into a nice drainage that had screaming bulls the evening before. I'm walking in the dark, hearing bugles in the distance. I was stoked. Get to my spot and stop to get a game plan. I then realized I forgot my release. I was close to 2 miles from my truck. I was actually glad I didn't see a bull that morning. I had no confidence in my ability to shoot my compound with fingers. I think subconsciously I cashed it in for that morning hunt. I was pissed. Bought a second backup release that stays in my pack.

2004 Z71 Silverado. Cruising down the highway and glance down and see this! GPS showed my current speed was at 67mph. Obviously a malfunction happening with the RPM and Speedo. I pulled the fuses and that worked for awhile, but it's now doing it again. How much $$$$$ am I looking at?

I recently picked up a 2017 Can-Am Defender HD8. Loving it so far! Hope to get some elk blood on it in September!

Early this summer I purchased the Crispi Dakota. I only have a few months of summer scouting on them, but these boots are great. I'll see how they hold up here on my upcoming elk hunt. Boots are light and very comfortable. They aren't cheap, but no complaints so far.

I'm setting my expectations low. If a decent bull crosses my path opening morning, he's getting an arrow. I put too much pressure on myself on my last two elk tags. Came home empty. I'm going to enjoy this hunt!

Picked up a new side by side over the weekend and it came with these BH 2.0. Now I know the original BHs are great tires. Online Google reviews with the 2.0 is a mixed bag with most concerns of weak side walls. Most of my use will be for hunting and trail riding. Going from camp to my drop off spot. No mudding or sand dunes. With delivery on this UTV, I'm now broke, so I'm hoping I can get a least one season out of them. How do these hold up with our Arizona terrain?

Man, that gets the blood pumping! Only 31 more days!!!

I've got a couple cow calls designed by Steve Chappell. An excellent, natural elk sound. This year I'm going to carry with me a Montana cow elk decoy. Wish I had one on my last hunt. Maybe i can bring that bull in that seems to always be hung up at 75 yards.

Guys with no tag: average growth. Guys with tag: impressive growth. I'm glad I have a tag! :)

Yeah, this truck has been great to me. It's put in places I had no business being in.....and got me out and back home too! Not wanting to jinx it, but other than general maintenance, this truck has been solid.

ok, great. Thanks for the suggestions. Might be cheaper than I expected.

Whew! I was worried. My number one bull is still alive!!

I have a pair of NEU from 2014 I'm looking to sell. I'm at work tho but can send you pic later this afternoon if you don't find anything in the mean time. I'm kinda hard to get a hold of while at work, so it will be later this afternoon.

I'm up to 14. But I'm only putting in for 13B...so it's my own fault!

I've been shopping myself. Is the lack of EBS on the Rangers really an issue? I go down some steep azz stuff and my truck is in 4 low - 1st gear and feathering the brakes and its still a bit unnerving..haha

Your residency is determined by a state issued ID as you can't have 2 state issued IDs. The IRS considers students attending out of state as residents of thier home state. Game and Fish departments cross reference this if stopped and checked. If your kid gets a driver's license in another state and you apply them as residents, you're asking for trouble. If your kids like to hunt, don't play games when it comes to residency and obtaining hunting licenses and tags.

You are allowed to dissent, you just have to have thick enough skin to hear people disagree with you. I agree. But when it delves into Jr High name calling, I lose interest.

Well stated truehunter. One thing I've learned over the years here on CWT is that you're not allowed to have a dissenting opinion. No matter the topic, from specific hunting tactics to calling out the BMOC, the herd mentality takes over and you'll be carved up faster than a turkey on Thanksgiving. Good luck on all your future hunts with your family. That's what it's all about.

I didn't expect to draw. So it appears I'm one year closer to that 13B tag. Now up to 14 points. Congrats to all that pulled a tag!

I think of all the dove and quail I've shot at over the past 40 years or so without hearing protection. 1,000's of shots! Makes a person wonder "what if?" 24/7 tinnitus sucks! And the hundreds of rock concerts didn't help either. I'm much smarter now, but the damage is done.

Lol. Only way he'll be hunting!
