Hi all, I was able to draw a turkey tag for 3C and will be going up this weekend. I have no experience in that area south of the highway and just looking for someone to send me to a good place to set up camp. I'll be driving a up after work Friday so it has to be somewhat easy to get to in the dark. I've done some camping in 4A just across the highway from 3C, but would rather get into the unit since I really have no idea where I'm going to hunt yet. heck, I really don't know any other hunters so if you don't mind me joining your camp that would be great! Tell me what to bring. I had every intention of at least getting up to the unit to check it out, but my sister is a single mom and I give my parents a break every Saturday from watching my nephew. I would have made a great day trip out of it, but my sister won't let my nephew ride in the backseat of my Jeep. She is a little overprotective of my nephew. Age: 38 Sex: M Number of speeding tickets received entire life: 7-8 Speed in miles per hour when received ticket(s): Avg 5 -10 mph over. The last one a couple of years ago was 15 mph over. I once was clocked at 107 in a 55 on an expressway back in Illinois. I was just grateful that the officer wrote the ticket for 90 to reduce the severity of the ticket for me. His 107 was not even correct though, last time I looked at me speedometer I was going 125 and that was just before he popped out. Price of ticket(s): Average ticket 150.00, but with court costs associated with eventual DL suspensions, I'll call it thousands of dollars.

I was recently in Idaho with my girlfriend visiting her family. It was amazing. I hope things work out for us for a number of reasons, but I'm not going to lie, getting back to Idaho to hunt is one of them.

Wade, I bet you are selling yourself a little short here. You could probably do it yourself. Take a look at youtube and you can find some really good instructional videos on how to mount your scope. Not just from everyday guys, but from guys who know there stuff -think I found some from NRA affiliated guys, Midway, and others. I was able to mount my first scope using youtube a few years back and I was happy with how it turned out. Frank

I may have come off like a jerk, but its that time of year when this site gets loaded with similar questions. Having said that, I do find my advice to be helpful.

As someone who is still new to hunting in Arizona I like to express my thoughts on your question: spend a little less time constructing ghillie suits and more time doing online research and getting out in the units. I don't think I asked a single question about where to hunt in Arizona in any forum until after my first year of getting out in the woods. And that was probably only because I was drawn for a tag and after I had already scouted the unit. And even then I think the questions were more along the lines of where to camp in the unit so as not to disturb the hunting areas as I was still new to public land hunting. I think any questions other than those were about how to hunt or hunting techniques for hunting in Arizona, not where. Also, if you get out in the woods you are bound to run into and meet other hunters. Running into other hunters serves you well as you will know that you are on the right trail as far as places to hunt and IMO other hunters are much more open to giving advice in the field. Also, its not hard to figure out which units are close to the valley if you have the regs in front of you. I may have come off like a jerk, but as someone who has spent resources and time that I probably shouldn't have while in college to hunt I find your laziness absolutely irritating. I think this is a great piece of advice, especially for hunters from back east. I've had a rough go of it the past couple of years as I've tried to learn how to hunt in Arizona as its quite different than Illinois -AZ units 18B, 21, 22. In addition, growing up I hunted the same private land from the ages of 8 to around 22 not public land like I've hunted here. I know I'm doing something right because I see other hunters in the area, but just haven't seen many deer and have never had the chance to even try to stalk. Of course when I'm up on the rim camping and hiking I run into nice mule deer and elk all the time. To bad I can't draw a tag in 4A or 4B. But getting back to GJs advice, I think that it might be better for hunters coming from the east coast to first try and hunt units that have a a good amount of forest or areas that are better suited to the eastern tree stand style of hunting. I've been thinking about trying that out this December and January. As soon as I get some new tires on the Jeep I plan on taking a drive up to the Flagstaff region to check it out.

Mark, I would have your son talk to the ROTC Department at ASU. I was enlisted and served 4 years in the Army(infantry) and went to ASU after I got out -graduated in Dec of last year. My minor at ASU was Military Leadership, all of the classes were with the Army ROTC program so I am pretty familiar with it. . It's a good program and they have some excellent leadership. I just looked at their website and it seems they have had a little turnover (not uncommon), but Col. Roberts still runs the program. The department has its own recruiters so perhaps your son may feel more comfortable talking to them. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. I've seen a lot of guys ride bikes in to make it easier -pedal bikes. You'll get back to a large clearing and understand why the area is only open to foot traffic, a ton of garbage all over the place.

Unfortunately, the tragic tale will digress into debate over gun control when it really has nothing to do with it. The more I think about this story, the more irritated I get. I've been around guns my whole life to included my time in the military. I know that I could safely instruct students on a firing range -even with automatic weapons. Having said that, I would not be comfortable allowing most grown men to operate that type of weapon under my supervision, let alone a nine year old girl. Completely irresponsible and now this poor little girl is going to be ruined for the rest of her life.

I think Illinois archery is OTC. but shotgun or muzzle loader is done through a draw. Although I could be wrong seeing how my dad always filled that stuff out for me.

Anyone know when the dates for the #1802 5A/5B hunt (Hopi Leftover tags). I can't find it in the literature or website.

I'm fairly sure that if they did this it would cost them a few thousand dollars: 1) In the processing of cards it normally costs a few cents per transaction when a CC is run. I fairly sure that it even costs "per swipe of a card" no matter whether the CC is approved or decline. Over the course of a year and various big game draws I'm sure that would cost the department thousands of dollars in unnecessary transactions. 2) I'm not positive of this, but I think the same would be true in refunding the CC as a whole new transaction is taking place.

I have the Goodyear Wrangler Authoritys on my 2005 Jeep Wrangler. I got them from Walmart, but had to have them mounted at Firestone because they were not the exact same size as the stock tires. I've been very happy with them. I've got about 4 years and around 40K on them. I am ready for a new set, but am trying to stretch it out till the end of summer.

I've only enjoyed the Arizona wilderness for a few years, and IMO I would say that the target shooter and ATV/MOTORCYCLE crowd are a bigger threat to public lands than the rock crawlers.

So I have a female friend who sells print and internet advertising here is Scottsdale that had a call with a company in Springerville that does hunting tours (her words not mine, I'll assume she means guided hunts). This company claims to have had 10 antelope tags open up last minute and she was wondering if I or anyone I know would be interested in these tags. I'm under the impression that tags are not transferable. Am I correct? What do you guys think the deal is?

The guide is Pack-N-Horn Outfitters out of Springerville, AZ. I checked out their website and it looks like they guide mostly in NM. It doesn't mention anything about tag availability, but my friend explained to me this morning that these are supposed to be rancher tags that were unable to be used, Might be worth trying to call this outfitter and see if you guys can set something up for yourselves.
