I can cover bottom fishing, calico bass, white sea bass, yellow tail to the YT and BFT's. Plus, talking the tranx out to Cali and throwing the 12 to 15 inch swimbaints on the big bass is a ton of fun. This will cover me sub 80 lbs and I am good with that. I am not chasing bigger with my gear and if I want bigger, I will go 6 pack and ask for it. I enjoy catching 20 to 40 lb fish and get a bunch of them.

I pulled up some boats for 6 pack charters. No particular order. I like Sauerfish and Cobalt as my 2 top picks. I always ask what they plan to target and have been targeting and can I bring my own gear. Also, can I grown my own irons from the bow? Most will say bring your own gear and sure feel free to cast from the bow, plenty of room. As NewlyMinted stated, many of the 6packs have 2 types of steups, a light and heavy setup already rigged up ready to go. They usually have more inside and also have kite setups too. Many of the owners/captains when you talk to them on the phone during bookings, ask the questions and they invite you to call back and ask more questions later.

The key is trust, relationship and guys you like to fish with. I have fished with boats out of San Diego and Oxnard/Ventura and been on some great boats over the very many years and then the same captains and deckhands have had some really bad days. I get it, you fish enough days you will hit some bad days with the crews. I always give them the benefit of the doubt. One of my favorite big boats fishing limited loads is Aztec with Greg out of Seatforth.

The big boats are fun trips too, 20 guys is great 1.5 days is a good time for someone to get their feet wet, 2.5 days is a real blast. I like the 12 hour to overnight trip on the 6 pack boats. The overnight leaves at 8pm and comes back at 8pm, so I am getting a hotel room. I dont risk the drive back to AZ alone anymore.

Cobalt is booked for an overnight trip in 3 weeks. Will let you all know how she is.

Sucks the feds charge us for the land that is free, close land that is free and when our free lands are open for a short window, you are limited on access.

I usually do a 12 hour trip 5am to 5pm, some boats do 4am to 4pm. Price is for the boat, ie. $2,500.00. 1 person goes or bring 5 others. Since im not rich, i buy the boat at half paid up front and make all the accommodations. Then tell my 5 other buddies thier cost, so about $415.00 per person not including tips. Del this is awesome for the family as it is just you and the family. Sean for anything more than 12 hours, i do the larger boats and stick with 1.5 to 2.5 days. Reason for the .5 day is to sleep on way into the dock and drive home without another hotel stay.
