I decided to sit a waterhole in 36A this afternoon. I have been seeing mountain lion tracks at this waterhole for months. Tonight I got a chance to see the lion that was making them. My 30-30 did not let me down.

Tines you are right she smelled real skunky.

I need to ask if anyone has some recipes for mountain lion.

Game and fish said this was one of the oldest they had ever checked. Her teeth were very worn. Between the canines the teeth were done to the jaw bone. The canines were worn down to at least half the usual size of a mature lion. When I got her to Weller"s they said it was the oldest lion they had ever seen. I'm having them do a rug and clean up the skull. I'll post the results when they are done.

We have 4 tags in there for this hunt. Can't wait. I'll be up on Wednesday. The rest of us will be in late Thursday and early Friday. Should be a great time. Lee

I use the word kill and yes it gets people's attention. I agree with Bill and George too much sugar coating goes on. When people want to talk about what I do I am more than willing to talk. If they take affense to my killing "Bambi" I ask what did they have for dinner last night. Unless it is a vegan then someone had to kill their dinner. And if it is a vegan I ask if that vegetable felt it when it was pulled out of the ground. I don't like talking to vegans much anyway. They are usally pretty sickly and I do not want to be around them. Might catch something. See there I used "catch" the right way. Lee

I got my 2010 antelope back from Wellers today. Well worth the wait.

Get high and glass down below you. Mostly in the flats but don't disregard the flanks of some of the hills.

I'll be in 36A again this year. My hunt is the second mule deer hunt. However I'll be in the unit off and on from now until the hunt as work permits. If you have a tag in that unit send me a pm. Lee

I have only used 1 taxidermist and that is Wellers and I will not use anyone else. Great experience and quality work. Lee

Wellers does a great job and it is certainly a one of a kind display. when we went in to the shop Mr. Weller came out and gave us a tour of his shop and explained all that went into a mount. Then when I went into pick it up they wanted to have me go through their shop again just to see what they were working on. Very proud of their work and good people.

We have 4 tags for the Nov general hunt. I've been reading the archery hunt thread and sure do not want to hijack it. However I'm really looking forward to seeing some bulls and putting some meat in the freezer. Have you seen the price of beef lately. Antlers are nice but they don't make very good soup. I have talked to a few freinds who have hunted the unit and they say good things about the numbers in that unit. Anybody else got this hunt? Lee

I went to the G&F web site to look at the left over tags. They had some tags with hunt numbers that started with 38##. I looked in the regs and the tags were only 30## to 32##??? Where do the other tags come from?

We got drawn for the Nov25 Bull hunt in 4a. I'll be hunting with my brother as always. This year my brother in law and nephew put in with us for the first time. Right now my nephew is somewhere in Afghanistan. He gets out in September. This will be his first elk hunt. I'm stoked and hope we can put him in front of a nice bull. Lee

The helicopter pilot Loren Leonberger was the brother of a good friend of mine. His brother Jim and his family are taking it pretty hard. If you could say a prayer for the family it would be much appreciated. Loren was an avid hunter. He and his brother hunted Elk, deer, javelina, quail. You name it and they hunted it together. They stopped by my deer camp this past hunt to tell us about their elk hunt this past year. Loren was someone you could always count on if you needed help. Thanks Lee

Well I have to say PSE is a top notch Archery Shop. A couple of weeks ago while practicing with my bow it broke. I took it in to have them look at it. I bought it from them 7 years ago. I did not have a receipt and the serial numbers had worn off the bow. They said they would replace the bow with another entry level bow. Well I wanted to go ahead and upgrade to a Bowmadness XS 70# pull. The Manager went out of his way to find one since they did not have one in stock. He even offered to change out the bow arms on one in stock to increase the pull weight. Then the office lady came in and said they found one in the warehouse set and ready to hunt. I walked out this afternoon with a bow ready to hunt and I saved about 260 dollars. Great shop Great bow and it shoots real quiet. Lee

Do your own processing and you will always get your meat back! It really is not that hard and can be a great time talking with friends as you do the work. Lee

My first comment on this thread is they are not immigrants. They are illegal aliens. They are breaking our laws when they enter our country. They are destroying are desert. The folks that immigrate to this country legally are done a disservice when we call these criminals immigrants. I did not see any on my hunt in 36a. Had I seen some they would have been reported to the Border Patrol. Lee

Well folks I have the first mule deer hunt this year in 36a. I'll be camped near the Penitas hills at 31 47.318 lat and 111 17.751.0 long. I will set up camp next week on Tuesday or Wednesday. If anyone is out there after that this is an open invite to stop in and have a cold beer.
