Dall sheep would be the H.O.A.L. That is my second dream hunt. First, hunt moose up in Alaska. IMO, I would do something different than hunt on the Rez for coues deer. Coues deer hunting is something that is possible to do every year. Up in your location, you can take some monster coues deer too. So if I were in your shoes, I'd elect for something you can't do all too often. Spending some time with friends and family back east and harvesting a nice buck would be my choice. You'd have fun. What a great problem to have on your hands

According to the Nat'l Weather Service, ya'll in Globe had 11.99 inches of liquid precipitation over the week. Wow, a foot of liquid fell out of the sky. http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/total_forecast/get...z&version=0

The hunting model is real similar in size and design to the Tred Barta Stalker pack they used to make. Really great pack. Comfortable and can pack a good amount of gear in it. Eberlestock makes one of the best packs out there IMO. Might want to try and find one somewhere that you can try on first to make sure it fits your back well. Good luck with your purchase.

Truly some impressive storm fall totals. It's hard to grasp how much precip actually fell. Its amazing. http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/total_forecast/get...z&version=0

They're gonna get where they feel safe number one. With the rain/wind like it is, it really messes with their senses; no wild animal likes it when their senses get screwed up. I watched a Bull for over 2 hours in November trying to get the wind just right before he bedded down. He was lookin' everywhere, moving a few feet here and there (not feeding), finally he got where he felt safe and bedded up. With the availability of water like it is, they won't need to travel too far to water, if they have to at all. With the wind as nasty as it is, they will be in sheltered cuts, bowels, thickets, or on a ridgeline that isn't getting hammered with wind. It's usually tough goin' finding them when the wind is nasty. They seem to hole up pretty good. If you can get the wind right, still hunting through thickets might produce an opportunity. During breaks in the weather and after it passes they should move well. Good luck

Now they gotta get him seated before they vote. I watched Hannity lastnight and they were saying they might try and push it through before he gets seated, just to get the bill passed. That'd be pretty crummy of them, but it's what I would expect out of the no good losers.

Here at my place in San Tan Valley, I had .82 inches in the rain gauge. It sure is great to have it. Mother Nature, keep it comin'

Wow what a specimen! It looks to have some sort of skin disease. Not quite sure what it is. There's plenty of folks on here that will have a good idea of what it is. Should you be worried about the meat? Heck, its a stinky ol' pig, I'd be worried even if it didn't have any issues Looks like that pig has been living in some soft soil to have feet like that. Pretty gnarly lookin pig. Congrats on a cool trophy for you. Sounds like you did a heck of a job trackin that thing down.

I hunted round about Payson area this past year quite a bit, give a good 30 mile radius or so, and had really good reception/service with my Blackberry Curve. I'm with Verizon too. I happened to be with Alltel last summer before I switched to Verizon. In Young, I could not call out, even when I had full bars on my phone with Alltel. Really pissed me off. The Qwerty Keyboard on the phone is great. Does take good pics, but since you're not interested in that, no biggy. My Brother had really good reception with the Blackberry Pearl too. It seems to be a little bit stronger than mine actually, but I like the full keyboard on the Curve. I know I'll probably eat my words as soon as I type this, but the Blackberry Curve is the best phone I've had. Had it for about 6 months and have had zero problems. I text a lot and use the internet when I need too.

I'm glad we are helping when someone else needs the help. It kills me to see infants and toddlers that have been orphaned, hurt, limbs ripped off or whatever else could've happened. They are people too, just like us, living, breathing and loving just the same way that we do. To see the private sector donate so much funding to the aid is humbling. America is a great Nation and will hopefully get on the right track in a few years (3). Great things can come from terrible tragedies. God Bless those that are innocent, let justice be served to the wicked.

Lets hope that the forecast remains in tact all through next week and the meteorologists have this one pegged down. Here's the forecast as of this morning for the valley and up along the rim. "SEVERAL INCHES OF RAIN ARE POSSIBLE THIS COMING WEEK... ESPECIALLY IN THE HIGHER TERRAIN NORTH AND EAST OF PHOENIX WHERE 5 TO NEAR 10 INCHES OF RAIN ARE QUITE POSSIBLE. LOCALIZED FLOODING OF NORMALLY DRY WASHES... STREAMS... AND LOW LYING AREAS COULD OCCUR IF STORMS CONTINUE MOVING OVER THE SAME AREA FOR A PROLONGED PERIOD OF TIME. IN ANY CASE... A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN THE FLOW OF WATER IS EXPECTED IN NORMALLY DRY WASHES AND STREAMS. IF YOU ENCOUNTER FLOODING OF WATER OVER THE ROAD OR DEBRIS SUCH AS ROCKS OR MUD... TURN AROUND AND FIND ANOTHER WAY TO YOUR DESTINATION." "THE FIRST STORM WILL ARRIVE BY MONDAY AFTERNOON CONTINUING INTO TUESDAY MORNING WITH WIDESPREAD RAIN AND SNOW. SNOW LEVELS WILL START OUT AROUND 7000 FEET... DECREASING TO 5500 FEET BY TUESDAY MORNING. THE FOLLOWING ARE PRELIMINARY SNOWFALL ESTIMATES FROM MONDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING: 2 TO 6 INCHES ... ... ... . 6000 TO 7000 FEET 6 TO 10 INCHES ... ... ... 7000 FEET AND ABOVE A SECOND COLDER STORM WILL ARRIVE TUESDAY NIGHT AND CONTINUE INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING WITH SNOW LEVELS FORECAST TO RANGE FROM 5000 TO 6000 FEET. THE FOLLOWING ARE PRELIMINARY ADDITIONAL SNOWFALL ESTIMATES FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING: 4 TO 10 INCHES ... ... ... 5500 TO 6500 FEET 8 TO 12 INCHES ... ... ... 6500 FEET AND ABOVE A THIRD AND EVEN STRONGER STORM WILL ARRIVE ON THURSDAY... LASTING THROUGH FRIDAY. THIS STORM MAY PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF RAIN AND SNOW... ALONG WITH VERY STRONG WINDS. A SIGNIFICANT FLOODING THREAT IS POSSIBLE FOR LOCAL AREA RIVERS AND STREAMS ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. VERY HEAVY SNOWFALL IN THE HIGHER ELEVATION AREAS MAY ALSO OCCUR. THIS STORM IS STILL ALMOST A WEEK AWAY... AND PATTERNS MAY CHANGE. STAY TUNED TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE... FOR UPDATES CONCERNING THIS STORM." -
Had a chance to visit the home and talk with Outdoor Writer a couple months back. Dang sure was impressive to see the game he has taken. He was full of great stories; wish I would of had more time to sit and chat. He'd be great to spend some campfire time with too.

I always end up sealing the envelopes and then ripping them back open just to make sure everything is ok. Then I keep having my wife check to make sure the checks clear, then I'm good! I think one benefit of the online app process being suspended is that there are probably fewer anti's that put in just to eat up some tags. -
I was around a campfire when I heard that back in the day, Lark could pi$$ over a VW bug. That was enough to make me know that I'm not sure if I would wanna spend time with Lark around the campfire

quartering too shots, ethical or not
Coues79 replied to azdesert rat's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Depending on your setup on your bow, what kind of broadheads you're shooting etc. I would have shot in a heartbeat. At 15 yards, I would imagine one would get plenty of penetration on a coues whitetail. On an elk, I may have thought twice about it. Pretty good question to ask. You will have some who think you should have shot, others who say you did a good job on holding out. Let it be, and go get another opportunity on him -
You've got a good bit of mid-morning action there. Looks like a good buck too.
-
Great looking buck! It sure does look like he's been in the field for a while. Has that old deer look to him. His neck looks like its gonna rip his own hide too! Wow its swollen. He also looks like he'll weigh a good bit. Any idea on his weight?

On cameraland's website, they are $1749. If they're in perfect condition, this doesn't seem like too bad of a deal IMO.
-
Here's a drop found a few years ago in a southern unit. He sure is a monster. What do you think he'd go?
-
I have one and like it well. Its not going to be KOWA quality but its a pretty good scope for the money. I like it. I talked with Doug at cameraland about the difference between the ED and regular scope. He said unless you're doing some major digiscoping, there isn't a difference between the two. Call him and ask him about the scope. He'll be honest with you.

Hey buddy, it was 100% my decision to pass on that 100" 2x2. I've got numerous other 100 inch bucks on the wall, one more 100 inch buck isn't what I was after, so as for quality, yes I wanted bigger. Doesn't mean you need to call the "wambulence", its called someones personal goal. I wanted a bigger buck, and to me, that is what was going to make a successful harvest worth it. Its my own personal goal. If you'd of shot him, great for you! I know I have waited 13 years to draw a December hunt, and with this finally being the year, I was hoping to fulfill the tag with a toad. To have a chance to hunt during the rut and WAY WAY cooler weather, was awesome. I loved it. I don't think the thread was meant as a "crying" thread, but its obvious that with numerous people seeing the lack of big deer, that the bigger bucks are #1; becoming less in number, or, #2, becoming smarter about showing themselves.
