Help wanted! Opinions of this buck
Coues79 replied to shylopolito's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Great looking buck! I would love to put him on the ground. Tall, looks like good tine length and good mains. I hope to take a buck like this in the near future. -

Teachers and Guns
Coues79 replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I can see your point but let's not over generalize all teachers being liberal and incapable of handling that situation. Again, local levels should be making the criterion and selecting who is capable of doing this. Effective training will be essential. -
Teachers and Guns
Coues79 replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I'm a parent and I would love to have several teachers on campus packing concealed. Heaven for bid my children are in the school like sitting ducks hoping that the police get there in time. I think overall, it needs to come down to each district making the decision. You may have 95% of the community that backs the measure; why not allow it then. You may have 95% of a district that doesn't want it happening. Why force it on them then? Allow for the option in the law and let the local levels decide, followed by a rigorous training with levels of assessments that have to be passed in order for a person to be held reliable. If the gun is locked up what is the freaking purpose then? Sometimes people are plain ignorant and don't have a clue. -
Make sure you're using a tripod to glass too.

Ouch. That's a huge deer. Awesome mass

You have a point but you must also keep in mind that there are a lot of folks that have to wait for reasons that may not be as apparent as procrastinating. Might be thata family doesn't have a credit card rather just a debit card to apply with and had to wait in order to have enough funds in the account to put all their kids in. Might be a service man or woman that just found out they'll be here to hunt this year. There's a lot of reasons that are outside the spectrum of laziness. To assume that everyone falls into the category would be a very narrow view of reality. I for one put in two weeks ago so this doesn't affect me, but there are things that happen and there's nothing that I can personally do about it. The draw will happen and the results will still come out. Rest assured

If you did them online they will have sent you an email with a receipt with the hunt numbers on it.

Share the cwt topic and they can go from here -
I'm partial to rangers but your rig is set up very well and looks wicked. All the storage space on that thing would make for a nice camp set up long away from the main roads.....

22 can be a circus for the Oct cow hunt. There's a ton of tags and a ton of folks running around. Nothing compared to the late bull hunts there but the woods are pretty full of folks

With last years fire in the Gila Wilderness and with the Wallow fire all we need is a few good winters of snow pack and it should shed water well between the Frisco and the Gila. Sure would be nice to see the tamaracks out of that corridor too which would surely help I would think.

Not a fan of the pistol grip. Granted, they can increase height but then again, you can always get a taller tripod. I personally don't like so much gripping and panning. If I get my panhead sitauted, I can touch it with my nose to pan and tilt. Seems to work better personally.

I've only been able to watch about half of this and the man is very well spoken, delivers his message well and is apparently passionate about what he believes; can't wait to watch the end of it. -
Exactly correct. I run into this predicament more with deer than with elk. If you aren't on top of it, you will never draw your first choice hunt that is deep into bonus point pass....if you always put a bonus pass hunt as your second choice. Something I'm gonna have to figure out this year for deer....

Ward's Outfitters 2013 Starting Out Great.
Coues79 replied to wardsoutfitters's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Hey Desert, Good to have dialogue; Discussion is how things are taken care of. But, one of the most important things is to not get hasty and start slinging mud. Let's not assume what I do or do not have as it's irrelevant and absolutely has zero room in this discussion. What has been proposed to this discussion is for longevity of archery hunting opportunity in units that have low deer numbers and high archery success rates, which in turn, due to AZGFD policy dictates how archery hunting can or cannot exist. A unit was closed to Archery deer hunting in December because of those high rates of success. This, in turn, results in lost opportunity for not only myself and anyone that wants to hunt unit 29 archery december, but also to the outfitter himself; this is fact, not speculation. A cause for concern as to high success rates in these units, in which one or two outfitters can have tremendous success, leads to ask the question, where is the self-regulation and will the high success rates mean that a draw system for those units are immenent, which in turn will lead to the outfitter excluding his or herself from hunting that unit in the future? My opportunity to hunt December 29 archery is gone now, so is it likely that too much success in a deer deprived unit could turn it into a draw unit for Archery? It's a deeper question that can't simply be shunned as ridiculousness or trying to bag on an outfitter. Remember, the majority of hunters do not hunt with an outfitter. It's a deeper question. Think about it. -
Ward's Outfitters 2013 Starting Out Great.
Coues79 replied to wardsoutfitters's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I make my living doing other things than outfitting. I have 3 kids that I put food on the table for. I bust my butt and work late into the evening. One of my favorite units to hunt down south during December archery season got taken away because the success rate for the archery hunts got too high. Seems to be reason to be concerned IMO. Read between the lines. He isn't bashing. Its common sense. Success rates like that limit other folks that can hunt during those times when the game and fish regulate archery hunting. So he makes a living outfitting; great! Don't bag on a guy that is trying to show the possibilities that can come from so many archery deer kills. One of the units he hunts which is the same unit the outfitter hunts just got the December hunt taken away. Keep killing high numbers of deer and it'll get turned into a draw archery unit. Geez. Makes some kinda sense there don't you think? Maybe kinda self regulate or you just might end up running a business into the ground. The closed mindedness of folks is what irks me. A guy has the right to disagree and it don't look like he did it in a nasty way either. -
Wow! Now that is one cooool lookin bull! Sweet! Thanks for sharing those pics.
-
You'll average out to 12 points. I don't think you're in the max bonus point pool for those units.
-
Make sure you're using a tripod to glass with too. There's a big difference between glassing and glassing with a tripod; especially for pigs and coues deer.
-
I heard the 23 hunt was very difficult to find big deer. But then again that's just rumor
-
There's very few double drop tine coues deer that one sees in a lifetime, if ever; very good decision to go with that mount. Extreme realism there.... awesome work.
-
Depends what unit and what I'm seeing. He sure does have some great mass to him. He's definitely a gorgeous lookin bull.
