Ward's Outfitters 2013 Starting Out Great.
Coues79 replied to wardsoutfitters's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I make my living doing other things than outfitting. I have 3 kids that I put food on the table for. I bust my butt and work late into the evening. One of my favorite units to hunt down south during December archery season got taken away because the success rate for the archery hunts got too high. Seems to be reason to be concerned IMO. Read between the lines. He isn't bashing. Its common sense. Success rates like that limit other folks that can hunt during those times when the game and fish regulate archery hunting. So he makes a living outfitting; great! Don't bag on a guy that is trying to show the possibilities that can come from so many archery deer kills. One of the units he hunts which is the same unit the outfitter hunts just got the December hunt taken away. Keep killing high numbers of deer and it'll get turned into a draw archery unit. Geez. Makes some kinda sense there don't you think? Maybe kinda self regulate or you just might end up running a business into the ground. The closed mindedness of folks is what irks me. A guy has the right to disagree and it don't look like he did it in a nasty way either. -
Wow! Now that is one cooool lookin bull! Sweet! Thanks for sharing those pics.
-
You'll average out to 12 points. I don't think you're in the max bonus point pool for those units.
-
Make sure you're using a tripod to glass with too. There's a big difference between glassing and glassing with a tripod; especially for pigs and coues deer.
-
I heard the 23 hunt was very difficult to find big deer. But then again that's just rumor
-
There's very few double drop tine coues deer that one sees in a lifetime, if ever; very good decision to go with that mount. Extreme realism there.... awesome work.

Depends what unit and what I'm seeing. He sure does have some great mass to him. He's definitely a gorgeous lookin bull.

Executive order on 2nd amendment
Coues79 replied to bowsniper's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
The problem is that the "left" figured out a way to win elections and win them big. We can count on continued loss of rights if the "right" doesn't get their heads out of their butts and get it together. I've heard this president will go to his amazing ground game after the elections and utilize that for the leftist party again. We are in serious serious serious trouble of he does. Thank God we have the "house" right now. I hope we maintain it or we will then "seriously" be in huge trouble. -

I can see your point here with excessiveness....... that is what they want you to believe and you can guarantee this is the first step. Don't be fooled. -
Executive order on 2nd amendment
Coues79 replied to bowsniper's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
YEP! He sure does. Arrogant. Let's hope that he doesn't get to nominate any justices to the supreme court to interpret the 2nd amendment as I'm sure it'll end up headed there in the near future. -
Ha! That's pretty much how I do it.

Outcome of the Game & Fish meeting today????
Coues79 replied to AZLance's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Man. Between the dictatorship in the white house and the g and f we may have to start honing arrowheads and sticks pretty soon. Too much government control. -
Cool deal! Congrats on his pig. I bet he had some nice javi cologne after holding him up like that!
-
Any coues in unit 28 is a cool deal.... ain't a unit with a lot of coues deer.....
-
I have the 3/4 HP and I don't understand how anyone would ever need anything more than that. You will never be able to put anything down through it that it won't handle and handle with absolute ease. Having owned it and used it I kind of chuckle thinking that you would be concerned with it. If the neck is something you're worried about just cut your meat a little thinner..... not a big deal. I would use the extra 50 bucks on getting some bags and tube attachments for your burger.

What is the best all around binocular magnification?
Coues79 replied to PelaPapas's topic in Optics and tripods
Its going to be difficult to find a decent pair of adjustable powered binoculars... I would definitely go fixed. You need to spend some time behind them and pay attention to the collimation to make sure they don't make you go cross eyed. The problem I had with lower priced binoculars is the eye fatigue; there is nothing worse than getting a headache and having eye strain while you are glassing. It will impact your effectiveness at being able to glass effectively. It would be best to find a store that will allow you to take them outside with an employee and glass at dusk.... you'll find out a lot by doing that. As mentioned above.... I would go in there with a dollar limit and don't spend time glassing with the higher dollar binoculars because you will want them. Stay to your budget. If you want to spend the money, go swarovski and they will be the last pair you buy for many many years. -
Garys work is awesome. $75 for an elk head. Can't beat his quality and is usually quick to get it back to you. Definitely top notch work.

Very good looking buck. Sure is pretty. Congrats.

Packer, Thank you for replying. I will start sending my emails to the commission. Thanks for taking the time to reply back.

Hey Packer, Congratulations on your bull! What a stud that many of us would be thankful to have. I imagine you are still on cloud 9 after having taken him. Thank you also for bringing up the information that you did; it is good to know. I have a couple of questions: -Is there a possibility of stratifying the hunts more to have less people in the field at once which would help make it more enjoyable for those that would like to have fewer people to contend with? For example, cow hunts that don’t coincide with a trophy bull hunt? Or, reducing the number of tags per hunt, allowing more hunts, but having shorter hunts to still allow for the tag allocation to be met? - On your guess, what number of people would be needed at a dept meeting to actually sway recommendations? You say only 5 people may show up, which doesn’t show a great concern…. I would say that the dept needs to extend its method of receiving input rather than just at face to face meetings. The world is changing in communication purposes and just because folks do not show up at a meeting does not mean that they do not have concern. This is fact. Another question is not "why", rather “how” can you accommodate so many folks in the field and expect them to have a quality hunt with the tag increases? For example, unit 22 does not have the room to hold the amount of tags that are recommended for people to have hunting opportunities with fewer people. Take for example the muzzleloader hunt during the rut, 40 tags last year, raise it to 50 this year. Yet, the huntable area and elk habitat for 22 S is ridiculously smaller than units that have a substantial amount of elk habitat and their rut hunts have fewer tags allocated… That doesn’t make sense, especially when other areas have a larger population of animals. - Why not break the numbers down with fewer hunters in the field at once? Give out more hunts to hunt on, which would increase the draw results… With the same number of tags that you want to allocate, the harvest objective would be met, just over more hunts? - There are things that the dept are doing well and things that can be enhanced to better the system. I very strongly disagree that just because folks don’t show up to a meeting that they are dispassionate about what is happening and I do feel that the dept needs to get their opinion in some other manner than at these meetings and get better involved with the times that we are in with communication. The fact that you have many folks active in this thread shows the passion and imagine the number that "want" to engage in the thread but won't for whatever reason. - I see the tag increases and understand how you can make a recommendation based on several factors, but then again there are many subject to your opinion and recommendation that don’t feel like we have any choice but to “take it” and live with it. Maybe the mindset of “we have meetings to discuss it and no one shows up” needs to be “let’s figure out a new way to let hunters help with what they are seeing in the field” and take our word into the factor as well. Thanks

He is a very good bull. I would shoot him opening morning of my Nov bull tag. Pic quality is OK. Gets grainy when you zoom in but good enough to see he is a good bull
-
Wow. That's crazy. So much for a quality time in the woods for those that draw the 27 and unit 1 tags. You'll bump into people all over the place. Common sense should say to move the antler less hunt to not conflict with the archery bull tags during the rut. Give guys a chance to have a few less people in the woods. After waiting 10-12 or more years to draw a tag..... good grief. LoL on the 22's. Wow. Its way way crowded as it is. Gonna be a circus out there now! Unreal.

Electoral College good or bad?
Coues79 replied to OpticNerd's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Not sure that the popular vote would work. Leftists can still bombard urban areas to dictate the election. The fact that Obama will appoint 3 new justices will result in the electoral college staying the same. Leftists are wise and deceptive and they know how to win an election. I would be for a single vote for every county in the country. Then the candidates would have to appeal to both rural and urban to get elected. As it stands now, if the GOP doesn't figure something out and appeal in some manner to urbanites then they will never win another presidency. The economy was the number one thing on folks mind per exit poll status. Obama has higher unemployment higher food stamp issues among a list of more..... and he still got reelected. People in the deciding states proved that despite all those failures, Obama still needs to be the president. The electoral college will still exist and it won't be changed. The GOP must appeal in some manner to urban areas in some way. I think the best thing to do is to have an ethnically diverse candidacy that relates in that way as the urban areas are the most ethincally diverse places in America. When they do that, we stand a chance. If they don't then this will be the result from here on out. Watch it happen. I'm GOP and I recognize that the diversity needs to exist. The USA has changed and the GOP is gonna have to adapt in some manner and that's not all a bad thing as long as we keep our morals and values. -
Electoral College good or bad?
Coues79 replied to OpticNerd's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Something needs to be done with it. I'm sick and tired of urban America dictating how rural America lives. The leftists have figured out that they can hammer the urban areas to be elected, change the country to have urban values and forget about the rural life. It doesn't sicken me that Romney didn't get elected per se. What sickens me is that the majority of people that determined this election have come from the urban areas that have nothing in common with rural life so we will be forced to mold to the needs of them, their ideals, values etc. It absolutely should not be about race and unfortunately it has become that. Look at the statistics of voters per race.... there's a huge trend. If the GOP ever hopes to have another person in as president, they will have to find a candidate that relates to the minorities. I don't care if the person is black brown blue or green, but it obviously does care to a lot of folks. I hope the GOP elects to have an ethnically diverse set of candidates run for the next presidential election or this will again be the same result. We live in a different time and place now. It has to happen.
