This was in the south east corner of NM. It was an incredible hunt! I hunted in an area that I scouted hard and only turned up 32 goats total. But 3 bucks that were anywhere from 83" to a absolute monster that would have broke 90". I found this buck the first day if the hunt and was able to get within 80 yards of him everyday. Never could find the giant buck again. And only saw 1 other hunter the entire hunt. I'm still wound up about this hunt and really can't wait to draw this tag again! My buck ended up being 15" in length and scored 80 7/8". Hardest animal I've ever hunted with a bow. Thanks for all the great comments!

Is Coconino enforcing the Travel Management Plan??
Hornhunter247 replied to Viper's topic in The Campfire
Elkrack, the 2 G&F officers that stepped of my camp trailer in 8 on my dec coues hunt. Thank god the snow was 2' deep or I probably would have pulled a little further off the road! Haha -
Oops sorry about the blood in the pic, that coyote made it 300 yards and didn't have a drop left in him when he tipped over finally! Thanks pine donkey! Your right, both of us have a memory that we'll cherish forever!

Is Coconino enforcing the Travel Management Plan??
Hornhunter247 replied to Viper's topic in The Campfire
G&F will issue you a citation if caught camping out of designated areas. The only part of the new laws that they won't enforce is the off road game retrieval. I chose to camp further than their allotted 30' last year on the kiabab nat forest and tryed to get a ticket, I won't put my kids and pets at risk by camping right next to the main road. Luckily the forest service and g&f both agreed. But do know of others that did get ticketed. -
Bmart I have been using the be the decoy with so so results. I've found that just the shirt seems to bring them in closer for some reason. I've missed 2 shots on Monday and have had antelope within 50 yards everyday. Just waiting for a good shot opportunity again. I'm not sure I've got any good pointers, but I have been just sneaking in on them and when I get spotted I just sit and wait. They have come straight to me almost every time. And the bigger herds seem to come in closer before spooking. Good luck out there!

vortex razor hd vs meopta meostar/cabelas euro
Hornhunter247 replied to creed_az_88's topic in Optics and tripods
My best advice to you would be go with the meopta's. the vortex's quality will fade over the years, where the meopta's quality will remain the same for years and years! I know every pair of mid range optics that I've personally owned seemed like some great glass when purchased, but after a year or two they just seemed so dull and I was shopping for a new pair. The meopta's are the exception here, great glass for the money! -
Far less often in canyons

Who cares?!?!?! I mean really, why does it bother you guys so much? I don't really care for road hunting myself, but I can really care less if anyone else wants too. It means less pressure where I go. And I for the life of me can't see why it's even illegal and frowned upon. And I really disagree with the statement that road hunters are the leading cause of unretrieved game. I think guys that hike into deep, nasty, rugged canyons taking 500+ yard shots across them probably check for blood far more often. I here far more tales from people saying they missed clean without checking for blood in the back country more than I do from guys driving down the road.

Sighting in my bow, and getting frustrated...
Hornhunter247 replied to ylclaret's topic in The Campfire
Something seems out of wack, maybe your trying to pull to much weight. Shooting fast is not better than shooting accurate. But could be a hundred other things as well. I know after a long evening if shooting I will start spraying arrows all over, but that's normally after 70+ shots. Nothing beats practice though. -
That's a stud right there! Congrats!

what would you do? i need some advice!
Hornhunter247 replied to KILLDEER's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I'd try to work something out. It is first come first serve basically. But if that don't work get there real early and pee all around that tank and go sit the closest water hole nearby. The deer won't come within 200 yards of that one! Just an idea -
Pack question for the eberlestock x3 lodrag
Hornhunter247 replied to Bitter24's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I use mine all the time! Just got the x1a1 so haven't tried the bow bucket yet, but I like it better than tying it on. If your hunting steep rocky places you'll love having your hands free. -
To help with your questions, hike up the few cinder hills in that area and glass, glass, glass!! There are some great bucks in that country but you have to be patient. You'll have to glass way out in that country but you should find a few good bucks. And glassing from the top of your truck won't give you any vantage out there, too thick and rolling. Good luck on your hunt!

Been there done this!!! $900 Nikon + $600= Swarovski cut your losses where your at. Put your money away and save up for what you really want. Your going to spend 3x the price of Swarovski looking for that "as good" or "close enough". Big glass is going to have some mirage effect no matter what brand in the heat if the day.

Stickflicker the reports don't account for the max point holders that opt for bonus point only this year. I can see a few coming for the class to get their permanent point though.

Haha! Got it! Watch my 6 lol I have a moo cow decoy, it worked ok on a mule deer hunt out here. But it took me for a ride a couple times in the strong winds we get down here. It's was more of a pain than what it was worth. It'll be in the truck this hunt though. You just never know

Ok so with all this beautiful rain that we have received lately here in S.E. NM, all the goats I've been scouting for my archery hint are scattered! And none are hitting the regular waters (( so my blind hint option seems to be toast! Has anyone used this goofy set up? I don't know if I could wear it without laughing myself out of the country, but it looks like it could work! Any info would be great! Thanks, Brian

I'm going to say this is as low as you'll see them. But watch out for cabelas or bass pro shops to do a blowout on them like they did their spotters.

I went ahead and ordered it up! Hopefully these goats around here like it

I wonder how good a coat of paint primer would work?! I've lost a freezer or 2 over the years because if this. But was just thinking about how we used to deal with pet smells( urine) when I had my flooring business years back.
