Help with matching a scope to a win .300
Hornhunter247 replied to ivhunter's topic in Optics and tripods
Don't go but a $49 scope from Walmart and he'll be fine! I do think shopping for a scope from a trusted company is the way to go, but no need to spend $1000 if you don't need to. Any leupold or vortex scope will hold up well. Burris makes some nice scopes, and some of the bushnell mid range scopes are nice. Tons of options out there! Most scopes are pretty well shock proof from recoil, but don't drop it. -
I don't get all the hatred for mossback. They work their tails off to get their clients huge animals every year! Yes they pay finder fees, but so do most outfitters looking for a certain quality animal. And why is it the outfitters the jerk when Finder fees are involved, I'd give that info for free just to help a guy out, or I'd keep my mouth shut and try to harvest for myself. Do you guys even realize how hard it is to kill one of these giant bulls? Guided or not, it's tough! So asking if he shot it out of the truck is a pretty dumb comment. Sorry for the rant here, just tired of all the bashing that comes with big animals! I'm friends with a few big outfitters/guides and they hunt harder and longer than anyone else I've ever met.

Hornhunter247 replied to pepsiman's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
What a stud buck!! I'm going to put that buck just shy of 187" with the velvet. That's a buck of a lifetime right there! Congrats! -
There are some giant bucks in 8! I was very surprised at the muleys I saw in there last year on my couse hunt. Got me thinking about applying, but didn't. Good luck to the hunters in there this year!

Hoghntr if you'll stick them in a box and ship them I'll gladly pay that plus shipping, my son would be one happy kid -
Nm already does this and it's awesome! Now I'm thinking that most of you don't understand that the G&F issues tags based off harvest objectives right? If there was very low hunter success last year or very good survival rate, the tag numbers go up. So with that said, they would have to offer more tags in the earlier hunt to compensate for the lower success rates. And I totally disagree with less hunters=more success, you can stick a bad hunter in a unit with nobody else and their still not going to have any better odds. Just like really great hunters consistently kill great animals on very busy hunts. I'd love to see AZ do this, as I love hunting pre-rut bulls!

It says McReynolds outfitters on his FB watermark. I'm gonna say its him.

It was a great hunt! Had a couple shots that I missed early on while trying to spot n stalk these goats. I actually missed this buck on day 1. Finally had to pull out the blind and finish the job. The best part was having my son sitting right next to me on this eventful day! He learned a lot today and even tracked up the coyote we shot just before the antelope came in. I'm feeling pretty blessed to have been able to finally harvest one of these beautiful animals. Shot this yote at 7:30 Then shot my buck at 8:05

First and last light coues
Hornhunter247 replied to 1uglydude's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I'm not a big leupold fan, but I love my 50mm objectives. The amount of light let in compared to a 40mm is huge. The difference in mounting height is just over 1/4 of an inch, so not that much. Now think about starting and ending your hunt 15 mins later and earlier everyday! To me it makes a difference, those big bucks aren't going to hang out or start moving any later or earlier -
I've been in the market for a new scope for a long range gun I've been building up. I have found the minox 3-15x42 on sale for over half off. I was really thinking about the viper hs line originally, but love a few minox bino's I've had over the years. Does anyone use their scopes that could provide some input?

I ended up going with what I know, a vortex viper hs in 6-24x50. Over twice the money but I know what I'm getting! Thanks for the replies guys!

Here's my .02 cents on this subject, and just so you know I'm not biased, I don't care what optics you choose Trying to compare the Swarovski to the kiababs is like comparing a car to a truck. Their not in the same leage. Vortex does not produce these optics for that reason. They are a mid range (price) bino, so if that's what your looking for compare the likes. The kiababs are a very nice bino! But so is the older minox 15's, and I've seen it for years people comparing those to swaro's also. If your wanting a decent pair of big eyes on a budget, then I'd deffinitly recommend the kiababs! They are clear, but do get fuzzy around the edges. I tested 4 big eyes before I bought, all side by side and at night to see the true differences. I looked through the kiababs, Leica hd 15's, swaro 15's, and the swaro 12x50's. what I noticed was pretty amazing, the kiababs were the least clear, but could still see pretty good! The leica's and the 15's were almost identical, except in price. They both had a bit of distortion at the edges but had a huge sweet spot compared to the kiababs. The swarovisions just blew them all out of the water in every way imaginable. But if your only comparing the 2, swaro's are better built, better clarity, better to the edge, gather more light and IMO better warranty. Swarovskis warranty is one they plan on you never needing, vortex just doesn't ask questions when you do use it! And ask yourself if 30-40 mins a day of glassing is worth it? I know I hunt animals that are usually bedded up right at light and only get up right at dark, the times when you need to see the best! Good luck on your upcoming purchase! I love buying new toys

I would prefer to have higher magnification myself, but what I don't like is the 50 moa of the hs model vs 75 moa on the hs-t model. But you can always put a 20 moa base on to compensate. It all really depends on the distance you plan on shooting. The viper pst is a pretty nice scope also, I just haven't seen $250 better IMO. But you can step up into a 6-24 model that way. I'm buying the hs-t for a hunting build, so I'm only looking to shoot out to around 750 yards. The 4-16 will be plenty for those ranges. I have a 2-10 on it right now and shoot 600 yards with no problems.

I'm going with the new viper hs-t. It's better than the regular viper optically and now has zero stop turret. Check it out looks to be a great scope with some good features.
