All those mounts are awesome but I have a particular interest in the double pedestal. I have been wanting to do one of those for a long time. Any chance you could get the base dimensions and the overall height and width with the bucks on it?? If not it's cool. I am just curious as to how much space it actually takes up. I have the perfect spot for one in my house, but need to get an idea of just how big they are. Thanks and awesome job on the mounts!!

I expect nothing less from the IRS. I am self employed and for a solid year last year I (my accountant) fought those idiots over 5 different quarterly tax statements from previous years. They sent multiple threatening letters saying I owed them all kinds of money and they were going to put a lien on my house and everything else they could legally. We had to keep sending them the reports over and over again until someone finally grew enough of a brain to apply them to my business correctly.

I drew that tag 2 years ago and again this year. I live in 19A and am very familiar with the unit. There is a great map that you can request from the WM for the unit. Her name is Virginia and she is a great source of info. A lot of the unit is private land. Some of it you have to pay a trespass fee to hunt, some you can hunt for free and some you cannot hunt at all. Shoot me an email with any questions you might have. lanoue25@yahoo.com

Hey Jeremy, I am going through the same thing right now. If you need someone to talk to feel free to email me. lanoue25@yahoo.com. Sometimes is good to talk to others that are going through the same thing. One piece of advice I can give is get some help from a counselor. I know most guys have too much "pride" to see a counselor, but it will help. I went for a solid month and it helped me tremendously. My wife refused to go after the first session. Needless to say, it didn't do much for our marriage, but it helped me re-discover the person that I really am. If you are both willing to work at it and keep an open mind when dealing with difficult issues, you will both get through this. Again, if you need to talk, let me know. Blake

Nice job on the foxes. What was the total take for the weekend?

Pretty cool pictures! There would have been one less lion in the woods if that were my house.

Well, to say it was a bad year would be quite the understatement!! I believe it was 131 teams this year and with the 3 man teams, the total hunter count was just under 300. Total coyotes killed on day one was 31 or 32 and as of an hour before check in on day two, only 7 coyotes had been checked in. Obviously the weather played a huge part as the wind blew 20+ mph most of Saturday and the rain and snow was prevalent all day Sunday. My brother and I had a good day though on Saturday. Stand number 2 produced a hard charging coyote first spotted at about 350 yards. I had the Mojo Woodpecker set up about 40 yards in front of us. That dang coyote hung up at 250 yards and would not come in! He just farted around out there and kept staring at the decoy. I tried everything I could think of to get him in closer but nothing worked. Finally after almost 10 minutes I decided to just go ahead and shoot him. Unfortunately, I missed! Stand number 4 produced another coyote that came charging hard again. This coyote, though, came in from the left just a touch out of range, and never really came any closer. He simply came in running and never stopped running! After that stand, the wind started and never stopped. We decided that we would go into some canyon country and call this nasty thick stuff since we knew the wind would be minimal. First stand we set up about 20 yards from the edge of a huge canyon. We were trying to get a bobcat out of the canyon, so I blew on that dang mouth call for nearly 25 straight minutes! Finally, I noticed movement to my right, almost behind me. By the time I realized that it was a fox, it was 10 feet away. It was so thick, though, that he didn't see me. He stepped out into the clearing to my right a mere 15 feet or so, but I was stuck with my rifle pointing the wrong direction. He kept looking at me trying to figure out what I was. Finally, he stepped out far enough that he could see the decoy and immediately started towards it. He literally walked right in front of my gun and I shot him at 15 yards. I did win my $50 entry fee back in the raffle as well, so it was a pretty good weekend!

I actually had the shotgun in the case in the back seat of the truck, but my bag and some other gear had slid off the seat and piled on top of it, so I just said screw it. I got lazy and didn't want to dig it out! haha The damage actually wasn't that bad on the fox. Exit whole was about 2-3 inches, which my taxidermist should easily be able to fix.

There's usually 60-70 dogs killed on this hunt, but the rain and snow really slowed down the hunting.

Ryan, I just got the email. No idea why it didn't come through till just now. Anyway, let me know what you think thanks again Blake

In my limited experience hunting in a blind, it may have made a difference. I set up a blind last year and a great buck came in a couple hours later. He immediately looked right at the blind, but I don't know if it was because it was new, or because I didn't have it brushed in(probably the latter). I simply set it up on the end of a row of oak brush. That buck was so nervous he never watered and I never got a shot. I moved my blind over into the middle of the oak brush and two days later I arrowed that same buck. He came right in and never once looked over in my direction.

Game&Fish - Operation Photo date check
BML replied to C.O.U.E.S.'s topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I have no problems with the guys doing their jobs, but I question their intentions with this. They have to know that the burden of proof is on them and that there is no possible way to prove when a picture was actually taken. Why even waste the time by showing up at someone's house?? Also, if they do that to one person, they have to do it to all the HUNDREDS of hunters who have posted photos with incorrect dates on them. Seems like just a huge waste of time and resources to me. -
Congrats to all the hunters!!!! Thanks for sharing all the cool stories of the hunts and all the awesome pictures.

What most people don't realize is that when you spend the $25 on the sticker, you qualify for a reduced registration rate of only $4. I noticed from the last post that you are a Rhino owner like myself. That $25 OHV sticker saves me a ton of money every year on registration and I imagine it will you as well. Lesson learned.

Antelope typically drop their sheaths late October and into November. The new horn actually begins growing underneath the old horn, which in effect "pushes" the old sheath off. So technically they never have a bald head. If you find them laying on the ground, you are lucky. They get eaten up by critters and such very quickly. This time of year, you will not see anything that is big, unless you find a buck with some sort of injury that hasn't allowed him to shed.

So did you go to the show last Sunday?? No way for me since it was Sunday. Getting up at 4:30 for work everyday is hard enough. I didn't need to try it after going to that show!!

Looks like a great job to me!

January 2010... another one to remember!
BML replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Hey Gino, You need another member of the gang!! I will even wear the "Prospect" badge for as long as it takes! All kidding aside, you guys rock. We've never met, but I have more respect than words can describe for a man who devotes so much time and passion to not just the outdoors, but to helping out the kids. Well done. Congrats to all the hunters and helpers. -
Don't feel so bad, TJ. In all the time I spent scouting and the three full days I spent hunting, this pig was in the only herd I was able to find. My brother took one out of this same herd on opening day. I gave them a week to settle down before I went back and they were in the exact same spot. There are now only 6 left so we are done hunting them. My dad still has a tag to fill as well, but we don't want to kill any more out of that herd, so he may be done.
