I'm curious on the "closed" units. I can only assume they only have hunts in the units that G&F determines have a healthy sustainable bear population? Do they add or take away units ever or often?

I know it is asking alot of a picture that offers very little. What do you think this bull might turn out as? This is the only pic I have of him as he walked by really close to the camera.

Hiking is the only way to go! It always surprises me how much hidden water we have in this dry state.

I found this old cement marker next to a little spring. Anyone seen it before or know where it is?? I would be surprised but maybe someone has been there. Looks like it says Jul 6 1931, Pine Grove?

It is kind of deceiving, but he is just a spike that is almost full grown already.

This is where we went on Kodiak, one of the small neighboring islands actually. http://www.whalepasslodge.com/ It was awesome. There were four of us and it was perfect. We killed three deer archery, fished one deep sea day and caught several halibut, and one salmon run river day. The owners were awesome. Whatever you want to fish for or catch, he'll make it happen. You take a cab from Kodiak to a doc somewhere, and he pics you up in his boat and takes you to their island. We went in August.

Been trying to find them up the hill. No luck yet. Who has experience there?

I think it is just because there is such a long time until they could even be used. You have to have your tag number to buy a permit, they may open it back up again soon since the elk and antelope hunters will be asking them, but doesn't do any good until August anyway.

Well, I know of a case where the applicant used a "valid" card, the bank screwed up and may have had a security breach so re-issued the guy's card w/out asking him. The G&F drew his number, tried to use the number, it failed, then re-issued the tag to another and wrote him a "scathing" email chastising him for not using a "valid" charge card number! Talk about insult to injury, it wasn't the guy's fault... did the G&F look into why? no... made someone else happy... but it would have made you very mad if it had happened to you I'm sure... That does not sound consistent with their policy of attempting to contact the owner several times in the case that this happens. I had the same scenario, they called me, I provided my updated card, got my tag.

Every person that has put out a guess as to when they will be out over the last month has been wrong. Insiders or not. I think it has been well established that any "insider" information is also not reliable. I spoke with the lady that charges the credit cards at G&F myself, and she told me that it would be the middle of LAST WEEK. So if the insiders don't know, and G&F doesn't know, maybe nobody knows!

Accuweather doesn't have any rain in the forecast for my elk unit for the next 7 weeks, which is the furthest out they forcast...

FYI, they must be going alphabetically??, our last name starts with "A" and my wife's name is before mine alphabetically. They called her, and then two minutes later they called me. She also said they have a GRAND TOTAL of ONE CREDIT CARD MACHINE!!! lol

Game and Fish just called!! Both my wife and I got drawn for separate tags! They needed to get our new CC info... She said the results should be posted by the middle of next week...

Cabelas just called me this AM, 3/16/2014. They said I had suspicious charges in the middle of the night. Sure enough, was not me or my wife. He said it was to all of the same exact charges that all of the Target Theft cards are experiencing. So cards are canceled. It is a good thing G&F will attempt to contact me when they try to hit my card this year and it gets rejected. What really bugs me is how was I not notified by Target, CC companies, etc before today that I was part of the theft? Wouldn't they have known that?

This post I'm quoting is kind of a funny post. This is the old mindset of "credit cards are evil", which IS the case if they are not used correctly. The reasons I use them are as follows: A. If you have an average balance of between 10-30% on your card, your credit score goes up. If you don't have any cards or only have a very minimal balance, your credit score actually suffers. B. The more access to credit you have, the higher your credit score. C. Consumer best practices. If someone steals your card or makes false charges, credit cards have the best methods and laws to help the consumer refund those(debit cards, checks and obviously cash don't provide you with such easy ways) D. I earn between 1% and 2% on every purchase. Can I pay for everything in cash? YES. Do I have many times more in my checking and savings accounts than what my credit card possible max even is? YES. All you have to do is pay off your Credit Card every month and you never have fees, interest, etc. If you fully understand credit cards and use them wisely, it really ends up being thought of and affects you the same as cash transactions, except you are earning interest on your purchases.

Did anyone get a CC call from GandF today? I'm in the card canceled after the cutoff boat.
