I was in a similar situation and budget as you a year ago and went with the Zen-Ray Prime HD 10x42 from a great CameraLand sale for $400 I think. I have really liked them.

Those are some cool pics.

What a back yard!
-
Guess they still are putting out conflicting information since the website says it has to be valid at time of draw OR ELSE haha.
-
This is the kicker, that the results may SAY that you are drawn, but if your card did not go through, YOU ARE NOT DRAWN: "Failure to have a valid credit/debit card information on file at the time of the Drawing will result in your application being rejected (regardless of posted results)."

anybody have exper. w/colored night time photos
Sneaker replied to MT_Sourdough's topic in Trail Cameras
I have seen deer do small jumps at flash bulbs for full color night shots, where they don't seem to jump at the infrared night shots. You can see this on game camera night video footage of waterholes on the strip where there are multiple cameras in one spot flashing at different times in different ways and see how the deer react. Some cameras make more noise when they take the photo too that also plays a part in how the game reacts and if they look at the camera. Can actually be a good thing if they stop to look at what the clicking noise is, you can get more pics. -
With two months of growing to go from the date of this picture, he's going to be quite amazing, right? He was very kind to stop right in front of the camera to give me some good angles.

We can hope Friday, but recent history would indicate it will not be until later.

We've had some rains hit Kingman as well the last few days. Looks like most of the state has had at least something the last 7 days.
-
Can't start scouting the BO until it opens in August though right?
-
This probably speaks to what kind of a shooter I am, but I've never even thought about this before.

I feel like checking the immediate blood trail can tell you a lot, especially if it wasn't a perfect shot. It's always a tough call though. Coyotes got my brothers buck a couple of years ago.

Great picks, that's some bachelor heard

That seems very strange. Maybe they could see that green lawn from the top of that distant cliff and couldn't resist.
-
Yeah, good chance of that, but at least he should be in the unit somewhere to keep me motivated. My last bull didn't move when he rubbed... which contributed to his quick death.
-
I opened it in paint and cropped it and did the beautiful electronic markering job.
-
So conventional wisdom is the larger the bull the earlier they rub? The bull I killed last year was full velvet on 8/7, but only scored 320.

I'm trying to find a quick way to review my pictures in the field to see if the camera is at a spot worth leaving or not. What do you use? I thought maybe a cheap tablet that has an SD card slot built in could do the trick, but not sure since cheap tablets only have like 8gb of onboard memory anyway, would they even open and process pictures for viewing if they were on a 16bg sd card?
-
That's good advice guys thanks

It varies of course by area and bull but he looks like he is getting close, can't wait to get out to my unit again and seee how the Bulls are doing.

Went to the Kingman meeting tonight. 5 hunters came. Some good info and discussion on the guidelines. I let my stances be known. At the end they brought up a few items for future consideration that they just wanted opinion on, they included possibly banning instant notification text message type game cameras, and possibly instituting primitive versions of muzzleloader and archery hunts. The thought would be replacing some standard muzzy or archery hunts with these primitive weapon hunts some of the time... I don't think the primitive archery hunt would be a very good idea or have very good support.

Well the other one they had on the slide that I didn't even bring up here because I thought is was so dumb it wasn't even worth it was to decrease the number of early rifle bull hunts offered every year(they mentioned leaving them only in the 4 premium units). When I asked her where these ideas came from, she literally made it sound like she just got one random individual email for each of these consideration items where someone suggested this type of action be considered or taken. There had to be more random "suggestion" emails to the guidelines team throughout the year, so interesting that they would pick these three weird ones as the cream of the crop to get public comment about.
-
They didn't define them, they just wanted input on if it was something they should pursue.

The proposed guidlines have a table that is trying to explain when they will increase or decrease antlerless tags and hunts and it is not making any sense to me. From the way I'm reading it, when the three year average or trend shows the heard is struggling/tough winters/vegetation is poor or fair and yearlings are less the 90 lbs and general body conditions are poor: Increase doe tags. When the heard is doing well and vegetation is strong and yearlings are over 90 lbs and body condition is excellent: Decrease doe tags. I don't understand the reasoning behind that. I think there is an undertone of Life of Pi and "When stranded in a boat with 4 people with only enough water and food for 2, you need to kill 2" but I'm not quite sure? If you have a theoretically optimal/stable deer population of 8,XXX lets say, and then the herd experiences a couple bad winters in a row, and are maybe down to 6,XXX, the department will then increase doe tags, further decreasing the herd size just because the herd had a hard time the last three years and is in bad shape? What? Hopefully I'm not reading it correctly.
