I think it would be difficult. First it needs to be there long enough for the Bulls to locate and make it a habit of using it. How long would that need to be? They use them most when it's hot. Small ones dry up quickly in those conditions. It would take a lot of water to create your own and maintane it for a month or two(100 gallons every few days maybe???), made even more difficult if you want it away from roads...

Seems like that is saying the payment processing is done, but it also sure seems like less people than normal have posted about their credit card hits??

Recommendations on a mid range pair of bino's

I use the Zen Ray Prime HDs I got on sale for around $400 and really like them. -
I don't have the elk experience that alot of guys have on here, but here is a reference. My 2014 bull looked like a real little guy on 6/12, but ended up popping his 5ths and adding a full 18 inches to his beams past his 5ths before he was done. Probably an exception, but you never know with the last few months still ahead of them.
-
That elk can still grow quite a bit in the next month, even if his 5ths and beams are skinny, you only get points for length back there...

Does that mean it killed on its one day of hunting use???

Depends on where you hunt, you will see other hunters for sure, but with current tag numbers you should have plenty of elbow room if you want it(want to get off the road a little bit).

You're joking right? If I live to be 150 maybe I can go sheep hunting too. There are a ton of hypothetical situations but more than likely the 11 year old and even myself will never be max point holders (I have 15 points which in reality is nothing) and odds say we will never draw. There's always a chance but statistically speaking it's not gonna happen. And let me know how a 99 year old person does on their sheep hunt. Um no, I'm not. Explain to me how someone turning 10, and applies for sheep every year, will not reach max points? If they don't die, they will either get a tag, or hit max points pool at year X. Thats the way it is. Might be 45pts, 55pts, 65 pts, etc. It doesn't just keep growing to infinity, two things stop it, A. people draw, and B. people stop applying(lose interest, too old and no one to pass the tag on too, or die).
-
The 11 year old who starts applying now will eventually be a "max point holder" if he lives til he is 99 because everyone older than him will be dead. So saying he will never get there is not correct. This is always the case for every kid. You start applying and live to be very old, you will either draw, or eventually be a Max point holder. People die.

In the cycle of human consumption and modern communication, amazing resources are very hard to completely preserve and enjoy. Some of my best childhood memories were made on the river. Bears, innumerable fish, and all. If I were the tribes, I would be pushing to protect and guard that resource, doing counts, possibly limiting permits if need be etc, if things are turning for the worst?

For the Kaibab late hunts last year the bonus pass was at least 12 points I think for all of them... so you aren't even close even by yourself. For the early hunts, some of them people with 7 points were in the max pools. But, statistically, you are 40% more likely to draw a tag with 7 points than you are with 5(averaged) points in the random draw. You just have to decide if you are willing to make that sacrifice for the guy with 1 point...

But for residents the odds are even higher

13b and 13a are considered the best, "Arizona Strip" area. Those take a bunch of points to draw though and are only good hunts if you scout a lot or hire a guide, then you have a chance at a world class trophy. They are for going after a monster, where Kaibab is going for seeing quantity. If you find a good spot on the bab and aren't picky you will be making stalks every day.
-
If you are resident with a few points it is usually automatic that you draw. It is the third best archery deer tag in the state....

Anyone have one? Anyone tried one out? I'm in the market for a 6 seater side by side, (4 kids and counting) trying to get feedback on this one. I have my doubts about the cheap looking bench seat cushion? I don't want a huge super crew type machine, these looked pretty nice and aren't super long. Thanks

Yep, make it a flagrant, leaning toward ejection now. With less than 10 posts, you have to grant him a little grace for not being well versed in CWT unwritten protocols though.

I am looking for the cheapest easiest way to just track mileage hiked for the day. I use my iphone, (GAIA GPS app, which I really love used for 4 years now), for all of my waypoints, directions, satellite maps, topo maps, roads etc, but I can't leave it on and tracking me all day or the battery will die, and I don't want to have to charge it while out for the day. What would you suggest ?

Breaking in some new boots and came across what was maybe a half-finished house or shelter? Look familiar to anyone?

Man, sorry about the luck. 6 years for a cow tag is rough. You could have had the best cow tag in the state with 5 or 6 points... Now you have one of the worst tags. I'll do you a solid and tell you what you need to do to be successful: Tip #1 Do not hunt units 15a or 15b. Tip #2 Drive to 18a on a scouting trip the end of October. Find some public land(alot of private checkerboard ground here with hermits with guns, so get a map and be careful), preferably with water(harder than it sounds), cover, and feed(what side of the fence did it rain on in Aug/September?). Hike around different areas (be prepared to hike 15-20 miles on your weekend) glassing morning and evenings and hiking in between until you find alot of sign or see what you are after. Come back on opening day and pray they aren't on the other side of the unit already or that the local Kingman hunting posse didn't already sniper them at first light opening morning, scaring the rest of the survivors into the trees for the remainder of the year.

Small lightweight laptop. Bought a used warrantied one. Just so nice to see pics large and instantly store in organized files for later, delete, share etc.

I have them, they have worked very well for me for two years now. I'm fine with not having the best. The value proposition for the good knockoffs is too high to ignore these days. If you can get 90% of the quality, which is what I feel I am getting, for literally 25% of the cost ($450/$1800), then I'm a buyer. The value would be equivalent to buying swaros for $500 (90% / $450)... I'll probably get some good comments on that, but as a business school guy, CPA ,and company president, I can't not think that way even when talking hunting costs...

Jay Scott and his guests tend to think the only reason they are quieter during the day during large moons is because they stay up partying all night. You can get up a few hours before light and hear/locate them and be within striking distance when it gets light, so they say. Last year the only thing I noticed was a very strong correlation between the temperature and the rut activity where I was hunting. The coolest three days in the middle of the hunt were the best three days.
