Those kaibab/strip elk tags are surprising, 750 draw tags? I know there are periodic sightings and a some kills on the kaibab during the open season this last year, but who is going to put in for these in the draw? Did they find a hidden herd with 800 animals that we didn't know about? Seems like some unsuspecting people will put in for this and be wasting their money would be my worry.

This huge bull (Vaquero Outfitters, apparently ORO Ranch) was missed 7 times week 1, then when he was shot week 2, took 2 days to find him.... do you think it had anything to do with long range shooting? https://www.facebook.com/189502424437750/photos/a.249071028480889.67799.189502424437750/1132712700116713/?type=3&theater

Do you all need another hunting buddy, because I volunteer!

Listen to recent Jayscott Podcast with Chris Roe, they kind of have a negative perspective on the direction the unit has been going in general(too many bulls being killed, age class suffering big time) and Chris feels this year wasn't above average.

Awesome, wall mounter for sure!

My 12 gauge I got when I was 10 years old jams pretty bad almost every shot. I've paid the only gunsmith that I could locate in Kingman to fix it, but that did nothing, I think I paid for a glorified cleaning. The fixes on youtube seem relatively simple(filing down a lip in the chamber or fixing the extractor), but I don't want to play gunsmith and mess with it myself and end up breaking something... At this point I'm ready to get rid of it, but don't want to sell a gun that doesn't work well. Or if I had it fixed for good by someone who really knows what they were doing, maybe I'd keep it. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I don't know of any long time archery hunters that have NEVER missed or NEVER made a bad shot. It happens even to the best and very careful archer. Archers have been doing their best to kill animals, but sometimes merely wounding them, for thousands of years... Strive for the best ethical shot, if something goes wrong, learn and put in the effort to fix the mistake and try and do better the next time... Gun powder hunters are not immune to buck fever or mishaps either the last time I checked.

I see good bucks every day on the archery, and all those bucks are still there for the Muzzy, just a little harder to find.

Congratulations, glad you had a good hunt, awesome bull.

The wind thing is no joke. Every one of my stalks this year had the wind switch on me too...

Sounds like 23 is the place to be.

My multi unit area was tough, no bugles, really hot and water EVERYWHERE from the 5 inches of rain in the last month, so the elk are all spread out willy nilly wherever they feel like roaming and not in their normal spots, and not rutting yet that I can tell... After the cool down this week I expect better, if it doesn't rain any more that would help too.

I agree with this one.

Just because this guy shot a buck at 120 yards the other day doesn't mean we should all start to try it https://www.instagram.com/p/BJ1PcqkjQpn/?taken-by=big_chino_outfitters

Kingman! Great climate and size, great hunting close by for just about every game species in the state.

Cool buck, what part of the state? Low desert or mountains?

I will be alone most of my hunt if I don't kill the first two days. The worst part about going it alone is the difficulty of properly caring for the kill by yourself. If you are miles from a road, you better be in very good shape and depending on elevation and weather, have some big ice chests with alot of ice/frozen bottles, because you will be going at it a while, especially with a big bull, antlers, head, cape. Def be ready for the bone-out method... I'm kind of a light weight though, so it takes me more trips than most.

If there is no chance of you getting wet and you are going through catclaw, the old school stuff does pretty good. But if you don't like your bottom half to be sweating to death or don't want to trudge around in wet heavy cotton pants after a storm, there is an easy solution to that, it just costs a little money. I don't have to suffer anymore like we did on almost all of our hunting trips when I was a kid... But I'll never own a yeti.

Quite the spot you have made there, cool pics.

Is that in velvet? I'll throw out a 365 for the heck of it.

The more you have and the longer you run them, the sooner you will have some stolen. It is only a matter of time, especially if you put them anywhere near water. Lockboxes help. I have donated more than my fair share to the sticky fingered forest gypsies...
