I've been lucky to go hunting with Adam a few times...he is quite a shooter and definitely doesn't like to miss! I think quite a few things have to go wrong for him to actually miss. Let's get him to go camping :-) LOL
-
Unbelievable he escaped again. But with all the tunnel building practice, and being the 14th richest person in the world, he's got alot of construction/mining or just plain resources at his disposal. How will our hunting be affected near the border and in Mexico?

Pretty crazy. I'd need new underwear for sure. Dumb question, more just curious. Are there any good well known documented attacks from hunters that were predator calling? Reading most of the bear attacks, mountain lion attacks, etc., and most are people camping, bears getting into garbage or ice chests, biking, dog-related or small children attacked by predators. I've read an occasional story about the victim, a hunter, who they've found dead with an unloaded handgun and presumably it was a bear attack.

This looks like a total blast!!!! I wish I was paying attention and knew about this sooner. Have a blast!!! -
After my experience, I now use an electronic caller, and I sit on a small chair or I stand up with my back against a tree or rock etc, and the rifle rested on my shooting sticks when ever I go calling alone. After changing your tactics, do you experience the same success?

Waiting so ever patiently...saw another thread where someone said they started hitting cards last week...not mine :-( If I remember last time it was like 3-4 weeks of card hitting. I'm probably exagerrating...but it seemed forever!

Sweet! I went to Seward once for four days, didn't get to go bear hunting, and can only say wow four days is not enough time. Absolutely beautiful bear!!!

Do you agree with G&F forcing kids to take Hunter Safety???
lonne replied to Big Browns's topic in Youth Hunters
Required? No. A very good idea? Yes. I went one day as a kid with my dad, his friend, and his friend's son, and we didn't go back and finished the class. I was too little to know what was going on and to this day don' t know why we didn't finish it. I remember it seeming overwhelming at the time. Maybe I was 6, maybe I was 9, no idea. Lucky my dad is a Marine and taught me gun safety from day #1, so in the end I didn't need it. Anyway, there are already too many laws being created on a daily basis. We're just regulating because there are too many idiots ruining things for the rest of us. I'm not sure it should be required. Do I recommend taking your kids to one, definitely, yes! I've seen both your boys hunt Adam, and I was watching them carefully like a hawk! (I always watch anyone I've newly met with guns) They met my gun safety rules that day so I think you taught them very well. That said, they're your boys, you don't have to convince them of anything. Take them to hunter ed whether they want to go or not. Take them elk or deer hunting, and just pick for them if they can't decide. Don't give them too much of a choice. Kids are getting too much of that these days. Their thought processes aren't developed enough to decide all things on their own. They'll get plenty of that when they are older :-) The hunter ed class is packed full of good info for them, definitely suggest in person, no way online. The field day they should really enjoy. At least I know some of the instructors work hard to put together a fun field day. It also has its benefits besides just a hunter ed point. Other states that require hunter ed and recognize's Arizona's, for example. Lonne -

Gave up trying last June. Just wouldn't work for me, no matter what I did. And I'm a computer guy. :-) But tried it again just now, and worked first time like a charm. Cool.

Hi Amanda / CouesWhiteTail Customer Service, I apologize to post this here. You can delete the post if needed. I created a thumbnail (avatar) for my user ID. But it seems it can't find it in my posts, as it shows a broken thumbnail. Any way to fix? Thanks! Lonne

That one at Reavis Ranch is pretty cool. I remember seeing pics of it in advance, and thinking ok, this will be cool. Then we encountered a big Juniper, and thought that was it. Then another, and thought that was it. Then finally encountered that one, the Big One!!! And I remember thinking wow, pics sure didn't do this tree justice...nothing like being there and experiencing how Big that tree truly is

Hope Coach finds the bear!

+1 on Wool for November. Filson has some really nice stuff, but it isn't cheap. If you look around, I think you can find good quality non-itchy wool for cheap. Underarmour layers are also nice, but for November I'm thinking wool.

Ever find this bear? :-)

The positive is, a healthy bug population usually means there are plenty of bears around! ;-) One time I was bear hunting and bit by the nastiest bug. I'm OCD on keeping my tent doors closed at almost all times except when entering or exiting, but somehow this nastly looking ant with wings got in there and I woke up with it dead on the side of the tent. I must have swatted it like a bear in the middle of the night! It left an ugly looking itchy bite right smack in the center of my chest. LOL

That bites! You'll probably notice on each meal...good luck! Hope you were able to quick enough, b/c to lose all that fine meat would be depressing. Hang tough

I've seen (rarely) a few snakes at 6,000 feet, and heard they live up to 7,000 feet! But hadn't seen any that high yet...Rim Road, wow. I always figured walking around in those pine areas there was no concern about rattlers. I this like the 10 shark attacks they had in NC? :-)

San Carlos Fall (August) Unit B - Bear

I'll add some questions. Is a tag needed to scout? Is scouting only valid during a certain time period? Is there a way to camp as a way to scout instead, and do you need a permit for that? How about hiking permits? What are the different ways one can scout legally? -
Now that they've found a cabin they stayed in recently, I'm sure with bloodhounds it's only a matter of time. They're best bet would have been to stay on the move, but if indeed they were only 20 miles from where they escaped as of Day 17, they haven't gotten far. Hiking distance not easy after being cooped up all those years I'm sure, but they'd need to put some miles on the boots undetected.

SPOTs are great. I've used the old ones for years, make my wife use one when we are in the woods, or if I take a 5+ mile hike alone or with friends. The old ones work really well. I heard of issues with the new, smaller ones. Likely with anything these days, hopefully it was software issues, and the bugs have been worked out by now. A friend of mine who hikes 10+ miles regularly spotted recently for help and we went to go get him, he had a bad battery at a trailhead after a long hike.
-
SPOTs are great. Don't know much about the newer, smaller ones, but the old ones work pretty good. Heard the new ones had issues, but most likely those were software issues, and hopefully they've sorted those out by new. Benadryl will work in a pinch but if you have an Epi pen around and have a severe allergic attack, you'll be happy to be alive.

+1 on Outdoorsman's & Sportsmans BPS and Cabelas are good if you want something in a hurry, don't mind paying a larger price for it, and ready to spend some time to do it right yourself, but never great for anything you need to depend upon one of the store-employees. Some of them hunt as often as you or I, but I'd guess most of them don't hunt and/or it's just their regular job
