I am assuming tag number 000 means I didn't get drawn. I didn't see a charge on my card for Turkey.

I don't have any plans to go to Phoenix anytime soon. Here are some pics:

Suggestions on Savage Replacement Barrels
Couesdeer replied to Siwash's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Small sample group, but, I have rebarreled two Savages. Both heavy barrels. One is a 7/08 ER Shaw barrel and the other is a .243 McGowan barrel. I really can't tell the difference between the two as they both shoot bugholes with minimal load development. The shaw barrel was a bit less expensive as it is chromoly steel and not stainless. -
I have never forgotten anything vital (tag, rifle, ammo, boots, binos). But always seem to forget a piece of camping gear. One year, we packed up the tent, but left the stakes and frame at home. Another year, I had to whittle a fork and spoon as I forgot to pack silverware. Another year, between three of us, nobody packed eggs or bread, but we each showed up with a couple of pounds of bacon. My brother-in-law forgot his elk tag for a unit 22 elk hunt. Fortunately we were able to meet my sister in Florence to get the tag rather than go all the way to Tucson. Got back to camp around 2AM, but he did have his tag for the opener.

I have loaded for 3 different 25-06s and none were too picky. All shot very well. you have some good starting points already. Using 100 gr. nosler ballistic tips, I found that IMR 7828 gave me the best accuracy in two of the rifles, H4831 in the other.

For the predator hunting that I do, the chambering would secondary to the specs on the rifle. I find myself shooting at them in thick desert scrub at distances inside 150 or so yards most often. Once in a while a long shot offers itself, so I would want a rifle with that capability as well. (I am an admitted bolt action slut, so I'm leaving the ARs out for this one.) Something along the lines of a Remington model 7 or SA 700, 18.5" barrel for swinging on those coyotes that just "show up" 20 yards or so to your right or left. Since I am going lightweight, A Mcmillan edge stock should only add 20 or so ounces to the build. For me, the chambering would be .243 Win because I adore that particular cartridge, 1-8 twist to cover any and all of the 6mm bullets in my stash. 2-7 or 3-9 on the optics would afford the field of view on the low end and on the high end still allow me to extend the range on a coyote size target all in keeping with the lightweight theme of the project. In my book, that is as close to an ideal coyote rig as I can dream up!

I can certainly use the .243 brass if not already claimed. -
Growing up in Tucson, I taught myself how to cast with a $9.99 Kmart rig in my swimming pool. First time fly fishing was when I was 10 or 11 years old. I took the rod to Pena Blanca lake and caught a mess of bluegills and one bass, using black gnats and poppers. After college, I spent several summers working in Yellowstone Park. Pretty much spoiled me. Fly fishing took over as I accumulated more and better gear, began tying my own bugs, leaders, etc...
