josh replied to Hyperwrx's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Sal I have come to terms with selling it. So it is all yours meet me at cabelas and we will do the deal! -
Lean and mean! When are you going to go calling with me Sal?
-
They are all skinned and frozen. I need to start putting some up to clear room. I will be selling them in Globe this year. Hopefully grays will be up this year. I have already heard cats should bring good $$.
-
Alright Ernesto! That is almost as good as calling at the ranch.
-
Very cool. I have never seen this either but will ask my buddy who is a long line trapper if he has. He is always complaining of getting badgers in his traps.

Made 12 stands this a.m. First stand just at light a coyote comes to 150yds and won't commit so I let a .17 fireball go and it thumps him. Nice big male. Next two stands are blanks. Start up the hill to some better scenery and thats when the fun really starts. Make two stands and have singles on each. Next stand as soon as I turn on the Minaska Big Country fox are running around everywhere. I cant get shots on the first three because they are running through the bushes like crazy. They finally give me shots and I end up with a triple. Next stand same thing fox all over and I get three. Made a couple more sets and actually passed on three other fox because I didnt want to skin any more animals. One of the greys had a cool white tip on the end of it's tail. It is the first one like that I have taken.

Boy I'd say your having luck calling in cats! When targeting cats I try to find tight cover but also a spot in the cover that the cat will have to come into the open. As you have probably heard I believe we call in alot more bobcats than we realize because of how sneaky they sometimes are. Another tactic is if there is any kind of elevation around the area trying to be above incoming shooting lanes like thick washes with high banks. I know guys say you can go back and call a cat that got away the next day but I have NEVER had luck calling a cat back in the same spot that was spooked out or shot at and missed. They can have a large territory so try to find other areas near by that you can call. Switch up your sounds as well. Good luck

Had plans all week to take my boys Niko who is 5 and Slader 4 calling on saturday. So this afternoon since the weather has finally gotten nice we loaded up and headed out. I took my oldest last year and he turned out to be a good luck charm as we called in two yotes and a bobcat in just two stands. Our first stand today was a nice looking wash. I was looking for a stand that was easy to walk to and easy to see incoming animals so the boys could hopefully see some critters. Well 2 minutes in my oldest starts pointing to the caller and a grey was popping out of a bush in front of my Big Country. The fox saw us moving and left, but just then a second fox was coming in and got behind a big palo verde but then appeard just 10 feet in front of us. I shot him and then a third comes in and and gives me a perfect shot. Made a second stand and had a fourth fox show up but I could not get a shot on it with my .17 fireball. It was just too thick. This was a great day!!

Casey all were shot with .17 fireball no fox were harmed with a 12 gauge

So today after church and running errands the boys wanted to go callin again after our success yesterday. We set out to an area I had called twice last season. I made two stands in this area calling in the first time a yote and the second time a bobcat that came up from behind me and stopped 2 ft from my left shoulder which made it impossible to shoot. It got a pass. Well today after two stands and a couple wound up boys we had time for one last stand. There was a hill full of boulders that I was telling the boys we need to call. So we set up and started the stand about 5 minutes in my youngest boy starts crying about some dirt in his eye. I was standing with my shooting sticks so I set them down to help him with his eye. I figured the stand was shot because of the noise and movement but I switched the sound after I kneeled next to him and instantly I see a bobcat pop out of the bushes coming in nice. I shouldered the .17 fireball and was super steady without the stix and made a 75 yard shot and the cat went down. It was high fives all around. It was a great weekend!

Picked up a couple new mounts from Mark's Southwest Taxidermy this weekend. The first mount has been something I have had in my head for a while and it finally got finished. I brought Mark a nice bobcat and this buzztail that weighed seven pounds last season. I couldn't be happier with it. And the coyote pedastal was a suggestion from Mark when I took a coyote last season that I wanted to do something with. I think it turned out excellent. Thanks Mark!

All I can say is take them. You have to go out with the idea you will probably see nothing because when they are this old it is real tough to sit still. I put ear muffs on them then a mesh face mask over there heads. And as much camo as you can get them to wear.Good Luck!

Last week Scott and I got out for some stands before work to get some more filming done and had five fox called in on three stands we killed three on video. Then had a great time on the APC novice hunt. Calling in a bunch of grey's Also had some time to do alittle calling and rack up more points for the NPHA contest Then yesterday took out the new .17 fireball and on it's maiden voyage at the 2 minute mark on the first stand a double comes in and The Model Seven puts down it's first critter. I was impressed with the performance on the coyote. No fur damage and the coyote went straight down with the shot.

Very heart wrenching to read this but also uplifting to see all the prayers being sent. May the Lord bless you and your family. I am going to hug my boys right now!
-
Nice going he even has a bit of a white tip making him a 2 pointer!
-
Well since the NPHA contest started my goal this week was to kill at least one coyote a day and I succeeded! I was able to make a stand or two every morning before work or during my lunch break. [/url]

Had a great time at the APC novice hunt taking out Kirk a real nice kid that is really excited about predator hunting. We saw a bunch of fox and shot a few but had a few get away wounded. It was so tight calling in the manzanita that if they didnt die where you first shot them they would get away. We found a hiking trail and made our sets right on the trail and the fox would come running down the trail or pop out right in front of us. We walked four stands in a row on this trail and called in seven fox it was a real rodeo. Here's Kirk with his fox that came in at about 20 seconds it was a blast. Scott we need to get back out there. Before our novices go back there and really shoot the place up Heres a pic to give you guys an idea of the area we were hunting. Notice the dead fox in the trail. He popped out just about were he lies dead.I took the pic from were I was standing when I shot.

That could be a real high $ cat in a couple months. You should take me in there with you and we could call that one and a couple more in.haha
-
Excellent work! Good looking cat! Makes me want to start looking for felines.

I had a similiar experience yesterday afternoon. I brought the rifle on the first set and had a yote charge in to within 10 ft and missed him clean. Next set started walking out with the shotgun and got half way to my stand location and saw a great looking opening and thought about going back to the truck for my rifle but said screw it and wouldnt you know 5 minutes in a yote pops out of the brush and wont come closer than 75 yds. Just one of those days when I couldnt do anything right. But this morning was different.3 stands 3 greys actually called in 5

every two weeks the NPHA draws a new card and in order to recieve points for the contest you have to show the current card. It helps keeping cheating to a minimum.along with other rules when showing pics of your dead critters

Well done on a nice bull. I was up there a couple of weeks ago and the weather was real windy, wet, and cold but I heard it turned real warm this last week and a half so the animals really shut down during the day so congrats on getting it done.

Good job. You are smart to let them grow a couple more months and also get some more fur. All reports say greys are going up this year so we might as well wait to kill them till those pelts are prime.
