CRB replied to SouthernCouesHunter's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I'm gonna have to say that I would score that one after he's lying on the ground in front of me -

This Rack was found in unit 31 on January 2 by Bruce Weddle while archery hunting with Lance and Sterling Shoop. Bruce believe this was a lion kill it was found a couple miles off the road.

not to be rude but whomever he talked to might be a good person to buy smoke from. as far as I or anyone else Ive ever talked to hmmmmmm Only domesticated fallow deer or In safford theres some pet texas whites But then again maybe you guys are right If you are I'd sure like to know.

I was lucky enough to draw a unit 31 December whitetail tag this year. On the second day of my hunt I was hiking about three or so miles from my fourwheeler, I had my two boys one is 6 the other is 4 they were going to wait at the four wheeler with my father in-law while I took a short hike I wasn't really going to get excited because I still had so many days to hunt. Well about three miles in to my hike I spotted a real nice buck guessing he is about 105 as I started to try to move closer for a shot another nice buck jumped up about fifty yards from him and got him all stirred up. As the bucks began moving up the hill I got ready for a shot the bigger buck being in the lead they ran behind a big bush well as they ran out the other side I shot but the bigger of the bucks was no longer in the front I dropped the smaller of the two bucks like a fly with my 300 W-mag. In disgust with myself I hiked over to see my buck as I walked closer I realized that even though I shot the wrong one I still shot a really nice buck 14 1\2 inch spread and heavy some where in the ninetys. I started dressing out my deer and dragging him through the rough terrain back to the fourwheeler. Exhausted and nearly dark I got near where we were parked as I got closer I could no longer drag this heavy bodied deer. Well I seperated him in two pieces. The kicker to my story is that when I finally got the whole deer back to the fourwheeler I realised that both of my younger boys got to see there dad get a nice buck and they were amazed they didnt care about score or Antler mass they just enjoyed the overall experience. Man that is a great feeling and made it all all worth while for me.If you have the opportunity to take youre kids with you sometimes it is worth it trust me they will remember this forever. I dont have any pics except the ones on my phone and my rack is at Les Hendrixs Taxidermy I let him have the cape if anyone knows how to download pics off the phone my E-Mail is katobarker@yahoo.com Thanks.

Neat finds while roaming the hills

I know that over in cliff New Mex. on the Mcaully ranch there is a canyon full of round rocks but it was an old volcanic eruption or something like that. -
That is one nice looking buck congrats .
-
That's one heck of an accusation I don't know much about lance or sterling but I can honestly say that Bruce is straigt and would never poach or hunt illegaly.
-
very much a muley either way I don't think bruce cared to much. these picture really don't do justice for the mass in these antlers when I held them all I was thinking was WOW!!!!!!
-
Don't sweat I've missed many shot myself if anyone says they never have they are probably lying. one time I took a friend archery hunting for mule deer after dropping his arrow twice and knocking it off the rest once this guy shoots ricochet;s off the ground and nails this little three pointer vitally,I about fell over when I saw what he had done but believe it or not but he got his first buck.
-
Sorry it took so long to get your'e pic posted had some honey do's looks like an awsome buck hope you get a shot on him.
-
Did you get the pm I sent to you? I really like to see those pics.
-
I think you definitaly have the right idea by watching there daily pattern and trying to decice where to wait for them as for waiting in the wash you don't seem quite sure if that is where they are headed or not maybe you should stick to the hillside where you know for sure they will cross your'e path good luck no matter what you choose let us know how it goes for you.
-
I agree with Red Rabbit on the 25-06 I used to shoot one quite often and the recoil is not bad but you still get the distance your'e looking for
-
This guy grossed at 172 and hardly any of that came from the spread . The h2 on the left antler measured 6''.
-
There is a guy on Lonestar road in Safford who raises deer And I dont know if it is still there but one of his bigger bucks was actually a doe with antlers Just thought you guys might be interested in that info.

Today I hiked for about six hours saw only small bucks and none seemed to be chasing This is going to be one late rut.

That's a real toad congrats.
