    Going Old School

just my 2Cents for what its worth, 44yds, homemade peep sight cuz i can't see anymore
  6. At the range I use windex or rubbing alcohol followed by a dry patch. I think it removes some fouling, its a lot easier to load after a couple of shots. Out of the two, alcohol seems to dry faster when looking at the dry patch. just my observations.

    PM sent thx
  9. This was my first hunt with a muzzle loader. I shot a little 2x2 at 75 yards after seeing the same 4 spikes come in for 3 days. I used 100 grains of Hodgdon Triple 7 pellets and TC 250 grain spire point. I hit him quartering away right in the shoulder, exiting above the back side shoulder (ended up taking out the top of the lungs). When i shot and the smoke kinda cleared, i saw him kick up the back legs as if i gut shot him. when i went to where he was when i shot, all i found was a little bit of hair, no blood or anything. I was freaking out. I couldn't figure out if i just creased him or what. I thought a 50cal would be bang flop. It was getting dark so i decided to pack up and leave and look in the morning. Something (dad) told me to look again before i left. I ended up finding him 40 yards away. After i found him i back tracked to where i shot him but didn't find any blood. I talked to a buddy and he said he's heard of this a lot with muzzle loaders, no blood trail. Is this common? Am I using the wrong bullet? I went to a big box today and saw hollow points, would that be a better option? Sorry, i can't edit the title, i changed it 3 times before posting and still got it wrong. thx

    Bubba's last Jr hunt

We were targeting a couse but couldn't pass this up. Opening afternoon he passed up a 4x0 muley. 2 hours later Bubba's eyes get as wide as bowling balls and say "Dad don't move". Of course i look and this guy is 10 yards away. Great shot and the work began. We saw bull elk, coyotes, couse, lots of muleys. bear track (which is always cool), and turkey one with a bum leg. Overall an awesome but very short hunt for us. my youngest daughter always makes a good luck charm for him. It always pays off.

    Antler Handle Knife

Make your own. There's ton of info on the web. Basically all you need is a junk of good steel, charcoal, hammer, files or belt sander and something to act like an anvil. I'm almost finished with this. Lots of firsts for me, simple filework on the spine, antler handle, guard and butt plate. I did use epoxy inside the handle and on the ends. sorry for the bad cellphone pics

  20. I have a 28' trailer that i'm thinking of renting out for hunting seasons/get aways. I'd be willing to take it out to the camp site for the renter and drag it back home as long as its in one of the units close by. Anyone ever done this? Any comments good or bad? thx

Testing the waters, camp trailer rental

Thanks for everyone's input, you all made good points. I think i may try it out one or two times to see how it goes. I'll have to talk to the boss to set a price. If we really decide to do it, i'll post in the classifieds. thanks again

Testing the waters, camp trailer rental

Yeah, I usually blow tires when i take it out. That will be on me since i'll be driving. I'm in Flag so 6a, 6b, 7, 9, 5bN and 11m. Maybe 5bS, 8 and 10. I don't won't to hose anyone but i want it to be worth my time. I've looked at rentals online and they go from $80-$160 for similar trailers per day. I figure if i drop it off and pick it up, ready to go with water, propane, battery, generator and fridge/freezer, I'd do it at the lower end of that range. Of course, you break it you buy it.

    Wrong SS#

Putting my son in for the spring draw (junior hunt). I entered his department id and birthdate but the page is showing the last four numbers of his SS# incorrectly without a way to edit it. Anybody else have this problem? i'm sure i entered it correctly last time. I'm also 99.999% sure he doesn't owe alimony thx

    Wrong SS#

Another update, my son noticed that the last 4 the page is showing is actually the last 4 of the department id. We confirmed this with his info and mine.
