Right on!!!!!

My son was lucky this year and drew the youth deer and elk hunts. Of course, they were for the same week in two different units. He decided he wanted to go for deer first (to redeem himself from last year. That's another story). Opening day we had 5 cows within shooting range and saw a lot of little bucks running with does. As we were heading home that nite, a nice 4 pt and 3x4 crossed in front of us. We gps'd the location to return the next morning. Saturday morning we were ready and found this guy within 5 minutes. Mas made a great shot and put him down. This is his first deer and we're both dang happy with it. I had to work so we only had one full day for his elk hunt. We went to a good spot and immediately heard bulls bugling and cows talking. We got on them but couldn't seal the deal. This was the most fun I've ever had elk hunting. The elk were sounding off like crazy. We did have one shot but a calf was danger close so i told him not to shoot. In hind sight, he could've made the shot but we agreed it was probably better not to.

Went to the meeting last nite if Flagstaff. There were 7 people there. Pretty sad. As expected most of the talk was about tag surrender. This group liked the idea of surrender but the re-allocation of the tag was the sticking point. I think since everyone complains about the point system, why not create a list of the people in the 20% pass that didnt get a tag, arrange them by max points and draw number and go from there. I don't understand how the draw works but i think using the bonus points as a starting point would be more fair.

First time duck hunting and i'm confused. I bought a 2014 combination license in december. Today i went to g&f to get the stamps. The nice lady said my license is 'grandfathered' in, ie eventhough i bought it in december it still includes the all the benefits of a a license purchased this year (2 pole, trout stamp ect). She then asked if i was going to hunt dove. WIthout thinking i said no. So she gave me the federal stamp. Looking at the regs for the combo license, i see: Allows take of all fish species statewide (including at Community Fishing waters), small game, fur-bearing animals, predatory animals, certain nongame animals, and upland game birds. A valid tag or stamp is required for the take of big game animals and migratory game birds. Looking at the migratory bird stamp description i see: Allows take of band-tailed pigeons, moorhen, coots, doves, ducks, geese, snipe and swans. Valid July 1 through June 30. This stamp is included with the Youth Combo Hunt/Fish license. So, am i good or do i need another stamp? thx
