Thought I would show you guys a buck my dad got a few weeks a ago. He tipped over backwards with one shot that stuck him in the spine at 70 yards. He scores right around 113". Very proud of him. We worked pretty hard. Hope you enjoy and happy hunting. No story teller, but I'll give it a whirl. I have been scouting a few units really hard over the last few years looking for those booners. In doing so, I have found some pretty sick honey holes that are home to some dandy bucks. It was Labor Day weekend when I asked my pa and brother if they wanted to go shoot a monster buck that I have been watching over the spring and summer months. I had finally got him figured out and new that day was going to be a hunt that I wanted to share with my loved ones, especialy my father. He has taught me all I know and passed onto me the CW curse that has haunted him ever since he was my age. We arrived to our location bright and early, a little too early says my older brother. All morning long we only seen a few does and some small bucks. After hiking and glassing all day we finally had to call it quits due to our long hike back to the truck and nightfall coming quick. As nearing a bowl my brother said, "Deer." On the other ridge up in the bowl were three deer flagging running over the top into a thicket. With binoculars put away and releases in our pockets my brother grabbed my rangefinder out of my pack just allowing us enough time to catch a glimpse of one the bucks. We figured he was around 100 inches or so. Thought it was pretty neat and continued our hike up the ridge. With light running out I kicked it into high gear and got ahead of them about 60 or so yards. Near the top of the ridge I was taking a breather and looking at my cam resting on my boot. Just happend to look over to the other ridge and seen one of those bucks standing staring at me. I figured I had no time to get my release on so I drew back with my fingers and let one rip. After seeing my arrow hit a tree not anywhere near the deer I looked back to inform my bro and dad that one of those bucks was standing there. My dad was already at full draw and aiming at something I couldn't see. He let one fly and a second later they both through their fists in the air and started hugging and yelling. I dropped my bow and pack and hauled butt to the party. I looked over on the other ridge and seen his buck belly up kickin a little. Made a spine shot we figured so we hurried over to check it out. They thought it looked a little bigger standing at 70yards in just enough light to take an ethical shot. Lucky for us we weren't really that far from the truck. Took some pics and dragged him out. The coolest part of the whole deal is my dad was shooting his dad's Hoyt that his dad gave to him just before he died a few years back. It was the first archery animal my dad has ever harvested and doing it with his dad's bow made it that much cooler and rememerable. HTe buck grossed just shy of 113". We never found the buck we were after, but I couldn't have asked for anything better than to see my dad shoot that deer. Hope you enjoy and happy hunting. I just like black and white old school pictures a little better. We really didn't get any great pictures because we were in a little hurry. Should have took our time but we actually thought it was only a high 90incher so it wasn't really a big buck at that time until my bro scored it.

Thank for all the kind comments from my dad and I. Next time it's going to be my turn. Hope you all luck and happy hunting.

15's are plenty power. Using high magnification glasses aren't going to do you any good if they are a cheap pair with crappy resolution. Having a clear bright image will easily beat out any high power zoom. A pair of 10 power swaros will smoke a cheap pair of 15's any day when glassing. Having an object appear closer isn't going to do much good if the image is blurry and dark. I have the 15's swaros and have measured up bucks at distances that would take me all day to get too if I wanted to take a shot. Very few times I have wished I had a little more power. So few times I wouldn't ever buy a pair over 15 power. If you always have this problem than a spotting scope would be great to use in those few situations. Just my $.02.

thanks for the help guys. I guess either way I go I can't go wrong.

Hey guys. I talk to guys that swear by the one inch and than other swear by the 30mm. I know that the 30mm gives you more room for adjustments and allows more light to pass through. I know the 1" will be lighter, that's about it. Also heard that the 1" only has one spring for adjusting both the windage and elevation. The 30mm has one for each elevation and windage making them more precise when turning the knobs, so i heard. Some say a 30mm is exactly 1/4" click and a 1" could be way off from a 1/4" per click. Chasing the bullet at the range. Reason asking is my brother has a zeiss conquest with a 1" tube and a someone offered to buy it from him. I said sale it and buy a 30mm, ziess. I have a chrony and use the Point Blank (and another one) trajectory calculator. With my 1" scope I just use the hold over. Is it just as accurate for my brother to get the turrets put on or sale the 1" and get a 30mm? How accurate are those turrets?

Been looking around trying to find a thread comparing these two, but just found little talk here and there. Wanting to buy one or the other and wanted a few more opinions comparing these two. I have the 15's and need a pair for free handing close range. I mostly hunt the desert, oaks, junipers and stuff but occasionally I'll head to the high country searching for that monster buck to stick with my bow, Pines. If I can remember the 8.5's are a tad larger in size than the 10's. Also is there much of a yardage difference in the two. Say I'm looking at a ridge 300 yards out. Will the tens be that much better? And, in the pines I'm sure the 8.5's will be better, but can imagine 10's would be fine as well. Never owned or used a pair of tens before. Been using my trusty swaro 15's for everything, even huntin out my of my tree stand. Any recommendations would be helpfull. Pros and Cons.

Doug, Does the 770 have a self timer to take photos. I'm sure it does, but...... looks like the one I'm going to get.

I believe all three stores price match. I know SW prices matches only stores and legit adds and sales papers. Nothing on line of course. It looked like cabelas had better shooting and reloading than SW and BPS. Also seems alot funner for the kids which is good and more clothes to choose from, camos. BPS lacked in variety of things like the camos and shooting supplies which is understandable. Hence the name. SW is less for looking and more for buying. HAve a pretty good variey of shooing supplies ann archery gear. A manager at cabelas told me the reason for their store not having some items is because it's just a place to look and bring the family. He said their sales book and online store is where they make their money. Not having items to show or advertise makes no sense. Just my 2 cents. Oh yeah, SW's Binos are so much better than the both. Even the Swaros we get are so much brighter and I hear people increased their deer sightings by over 50% by using binos from SW. Maybe it's a rumor, but I wouldn't chance it. LOL!! thats def not a rumor Don't you work at SW. A smart thing to do would agree. I just said SW not the Tucon one. I guess the first rumor is true and they are being shipped straight to south eastern AZ. Now thats the Tucson one.

Nikon Monarchs are good and hase one of the best warranties Also the Br Bl's Minox 10X42 are really good for the money. They have dropped in price about $170.00. I know at SW you can get em for $229.00. Either of these two you can't go wrong.

I took out a school loan, I guess I'll just use that. 0% interest till I graduate. Bear Basin huh. I'll check them out. Thanks guys
-
They are definitely noticiably brighter and steadier like shortpants said. Do any of you know if Swaros has some financing deal where you somehow get the binos up front and pay like $100 a month and interest free for a year. Or something like that. Maybe it's just for people who sale them. An old gift bar manager was telling me something about it yesterday and he wasn't exactly sure either. You kow downthebarrel?
-
I guess my manager knew, but didn't care to tell anybody. Just sold some yesterday. Work mostly weekdays, but dang all this weekend was busy. Going to start working more on the weekends to get all those out of towners coming in. I'll give you a jingle.
-
just checking...but you do know swaros are double points till the end of the year. No I didn't. just started working there maybe a month ago. Also new manager who is barely getting the hang of things. Everybody is new in my dept. Sales are starting to pick up coming deer season. Where do you work downthebarrel?
-
Thanks for the comments fellas. I got my eyes set on the swaros. But yeah, the monarchs and the pinnacles are both great glass. Thought about the leicas, but man I love my swaros. Right know I am leaning towards the 8.5's, but still keep looking at the 10's. Like firstcoueswas80 said I work a sportsmans in Tucson so I get the pleasure of looking and comparing binos all day since I work in binos dept. I too have the whole outdoorsmans set up so it would be nice to put their nipple on the 8.5's and be able to use both on the tripod. It sounds like the majority of you guys prefer the 8.5's. Brighter is always better and they would probably be a tad better in the pines. Thanks for the offer downthebarrel17. It would really make no sence to buy them from you now would it! LOL. Firstcoues it's with a K dang it. heck, atleast you memberd huh. Thanks for the info guys and any more could only help.

July 2007 Guess the Score Contest
trophyhunter replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Contests and Giveaways!
I'll say 125 4/8. Going big. -
Kill as many as those suckers as ya'll can. I haven't got out yet, but just finished up this semester today and ready to take out as many of em as possible. They're probably the best target practice you can find. Working on your skills while helping out the deer herds.

Yeah, I would definitely consider that an unsuccessful hunt. Good to see that you see all your other hunts successful. -

I usually follow my soup up with a hit of mary jane and a couple, or a lot of brewskies. I try to forget all about that hunt and all the mistakes i made. J/k. Sometimes it's not always bad when you got to eat your tag. If your a true hunter, you know that just being blessed with the opportunity to get afield is something worth all the money and time to have a chance at one of ellusive Coues Deer. Any fun hunt is a successful hunt, in a true hunter's eye. -
I always hear these scary stories of lions stalking hunters and snagging their deer somewhere they left it. Maybe not always true but still makes you wonder that one day it could be you. I know that hunting in thick brush with lion sign everywhere makes me a little nervous. Hope I'm not a baby. I've camped down in the 36's a few times and always wonder just what these illegals would possible do to me or my stuff if they wanted to. Either situation, I'm usually armed and very DANGEROUS. Just wondering what ya'll think.
-
When has this topic about illegals and lions been discussed. The topic is "what's scarier? illegals or lions". I don't ever remember seeing a post that had anything to do with illegals and lions together. It's a simple question. Didn't want anybody to get into politics or government issues. Once people hear illegals they get defensive and want to start arguing. If your post doesn't apply to either being scared by illegals or lions than maybe you should post or make a new topic somewhere else.
-
I think eveybody is starting to get off track. This topic wasnt' posted to debate whether or not to raise minimum wage. There are other places for that, but please not on this site. So, it sounds like most people are more worried about illigals than lions. Makes sence. I may not have a tag for an illigal, but do have the right to protect me and my family if I feel threatend. It would be nice to run into a few more lions though. I wish the lions were as sneaky as the illigals. I would have my limit openin day. Thanks for all the posts and remarks.

Howdy all. I know the world record is 196 or so, but its hard to get a good visual of it with just a picture of the antlers and no background. Does anybody know if there are any picts of it with someone holding them or something to get a better visual. It's still easy to tell it is huge, but need to know what a 190" really looks like for next season. Any help.
