    Are they done gobbling?

No, I don't believe that they're done gobbling. The second weekend is always a good weekend. After having the first hunt this year I'm starting to wonder if I would rather have the second hunt instead. On the first hunt I definitely noticed the increase of hunters compared to the second hunt. I've also noticed that by the third weekend it gets tougher to find one gobbling. Although multiple times I've also had them gobbling good on the very last day of the hunt in mid May.

    Who loves the wind?

One of the groups that I got into had hens with the gobblers. I heard gobblers on Friday morning and Sunday morning of the three days that I was out there. Those mornings also happened to be when there was the least wind.

    Who loves the wind?

2 tags filled in our group on Friday. Today they were gobbling but had another hunter move in. Oh well, at least this morning was decent.

    This years antlers

Pixman, I walked a lot and went out a lot. I'm not sure how many miles but it was quite a bit. I'm keeping the deer sheds because a big set is sometimes hard to come by.

    This years antlers

I figured that I would post some pics of the sheds that I found this year so you guys on here would have something to look at to pass time. I found nothing big for elk this year, but I did find a nice mule deer set. The biggest brown elk sheds in these pictures are only about a 300 bull. The biggest shed in the picture is the white elk shed in the middle that scores between 310 and 320 inches, I forget exactly. The brown deer set is about a 185 inch buck with a 22 inch inside spread. It's always fun getting out there and being in the woods. Hopefully next year I find a big elk shed but it's competitive out there.

    new to turkey hunting.

When I turkey hunt and one is coming in I just find a pine tree that is as wide as my outline and sit in front of it. Just sit facing a little right of the direction that he is coming in because your gun will naturally point left of the direction of your body. I just use a box call when hunting but if you do that you got to have your hands free of it and the gun pointed in his direction before he comes in sight or he'll see you move. So if you can use a mouth call it will free your hands from a call and you won't risk the movement of putting down the call and getting the gun up. There are lots of ways of locating turkeys and everyone seems to do it a little different. About within I guess 30 minutes before the sun comes up some people use an owl call. During the day when the crows are calling some people use crow calls. During the day when I'm walking around I just use a hen box call and it works fine for me. Some people also use coyote and hawk calls. When I call I do about 8 to 10 yelps on my box call at a time. If it's windy cover more country and call loud. I've never really archery hunted turkeys in the spring but it seems like calling from a pop up blind with a decoy would work but I'm not certain. Also Jay Scott just posted a podcast right next to your post called, seven part series of western turkey hunting. It probably has some tips that might help you out.

What you guys hearing and seeing out there...

I was out today in unit 5b and I believe that the camps I saw were youth turkey hunter camps. I haven't had a chance to try and get one to gobble yet this year. With this wind this weekend it might be some tough hunting for the youths. Good luck to all of the youth hunters that are starting their hunts in the morning.
