Over the Counter Rifle Deer Tag Question
YoungHuntr replied to rossislider's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
If you are going to put in anyway, why don't you just put some of the hunts you are looking at that typically have leftover deer tags as your last 2/3 choices? And mail in applications for leftover tags are done before walk-ins for leftover tags. You have send in an application unless you want to wait however many days until the leftover tags are available over the counter. -
What weird stuff have you glassed or happen well glassing for game?
YoungHuntr replied to seek100plus's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
This might not be "weird", but it is interesting, or at least mildly humorous. I was hunting unit 32 last November on a Coues hunt but was only seeing mule deer. A rancher had put in a big water tank and cleared an area flat for it. There were a group of three doe mule deer that worked their way down a ridge to come to water. Then right on the edge of the cover, where they could go no further without exposing themselves, they all stopped. They looked a little nervous and glanced around. Then the doe in the back lowered her head and nudged the one in front of her with her nose as if to say "you go first." That was funny enough but then the one that had just been nudged snorted and did the same thing to the one in front! It was all I could do to not bust up laughing. It reminded me that deer are often more human-like than we give them credit for. -
Canyon Creek is one of my favorites. I love the catch and release regs. Looks like you did a good job with that big brown trout.

$4.25 a pound for some good homegrown beef sounds like a fine deal. I always like knowing where my meat came from and how it was treated/raised.

While it would make things much easier and there is some sense behind it, it will never happen. Consider all of the people with 10-20 bonus points currently. One or more decades of drawings/purchasing bonus points was put into those. When they have enough and/or get lucky they'll receive that once in a lifetime tag. If the game and fish got rid of bonus points, how could they do it without outrage and being unfair to those with decades put into them? It would take a long, long time to phase out the system and be fair to participants. That is just one of the problems with getting rid of something like this.

No tag for me. Odd since I put in for cow elk tags, but not surprising.

Fixed it for you

Mine aren't posted yet. But for some reason I have a new loyalty point for deer? I put in and drew a tag last year so its not from that. And all I have under elk is my hunter ed point. Wonder if I didn't draw elk, and then they posted my loyalty point under the wrong species? Something isn't right here.

May you eat tag soup for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I haven't given up hope........ yet.

Got through on my second time. Went through the whole enter SS and DOB and got......... "Draw Results are unavailable at this time."

They always post them on the host site first. Then up 30min-Hour later they announce them on the main government website. They should be here first: https://phx.az.gov/app/huntdraw/lookup.xhtml?conversationPropagation=begin

Very cool. I love fly fishing. Were you fishing the Gunnison? First picture or two looks a lot like the Gunnison to me.

Took me quite awhile but once I enlarged the photo I finally found it. As has been said, it's between the dead and live yucca, right above the big patch of greenery (looks like mesquite but I can't tell). Just a little closer to the live yucca. The greenery is just above the right half of the biggest rock pile. You can see the tail and body of the lion, but the head is not visible.

The AZGFD is not exactly known for getting the results out fast after the actual drawing takes place. Late this week at the earliest, probably next week. I guessed Monday at 11:00 am, but who knows. I would, however, be more than happy to be proven wrong.

Quick overview- http://www.netknots.com/fishing_knots/drop-shot-rig There are other ways to do it, but that gives you a general idea.

Next Monday @ 11:00 AM is my guess.

I think you're holding two flowers

I drew a limited opportunity cow elk tag last year on my 5th choice but there were three leftover tags so it makes sense.

Nate's Archery Pheasants and Chukkar
YoungHuntr replied to nlacost's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
This is the guys website: http://www.pheasantrec.com/ I LITERALLY live fifteen minutes away from that place, but have never hunted it. Wish I had some of those pheasant tail feathers for fly tying, lol. -
Now I regret putting in with a money order. I am strangely calm though. Just hoping for a cow elk tag so I can get some meat.

Blood Instinct: Duck Season 20012-13
YoungHuntr replied to Gut Pile's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Yup. Only reason your link is not working is because it says "bloodintinct" without an S. Easy enough to fix. Just did a google search and your blog came up fine. http://bloodinstinct.blogspot.com/ FYI: You get major props for the fly rod and reel homepage picture. Doesn't hurt that it is a fully machined made in the USA Ross Reel either. What's fly rod is that? I know it's a 9' 5wt.- 5 replies

I once saw this type of hunt on a hunting channel. They waypointed every killed hog and had a ground team go around to pick them up. But in some cases these hunts just let them lay. Which is an incredible waste. I know hogs can be destructive but this is not the sort of thing I would ever like to participate in,

I had the mid hunt this year. It was hard. Hiked up a hellacious dead fall and found two elk well over 5 miles from the nearest road. And over 1000 vertical feet up this dead and down covered slope. No way I was going to be able to pack em' out by myself. I shot one big cow elk in another area, long story short blood trail petered out and two days of seraching no bueno. They are in there but its a tough hunt. I don't think I even would have seen elk if it weren't for members on this forum who gave me advice. I didn't have the ability to pack out an elk from up near the tree line, so I didn't even hike up into that area.
