My son Sam tagged his first mule deer on opening morning in unit 21. We glassed the buck up and ranged him at 850 yards. There was an open valley with one tree between the buck and us. We ranged the single juniper at 520 yards. We made our move and got to the juniper . My friend was still glassing at 850 and let us know the buck was still there behind a tree. I set my glass up , located the buck again and showed my son the location. My son got to his rifle and was on him in a couple of seconds and made the shot at 330 yards. This was his 3rd deer hunt , so he was pretty happy. He thought things were easy being 2 for 2 on elk.

Grillen some young deer backstraps right now . Pepper, garlic powder , worchestershire sause, orannge juice , and coors light marinade.
